you can google the specs on your computer or motherboard (if you know the model) and see what kind of graphics card port it has in it. If it is compatible with PCI-E then see that the version of PCI-E it supports is the same as this card (google the model numbers)
I really want to buy this graphics card. i know my PC can support it, but im worried that this graphics card will be phyiscally too big for my motherboard. is this possible ? thanks.
@Demon20child Actually it is possible to be too big for your case... if you see my later video when I installed this card, you'll see that it just barely crammed into my case, and it almost broke the end.
@6580006247 yes, 2.0 is backwards compatible with 1.0 the only thing is you wont get full bandwidth usage out of your card but to be totally honest, you will never notice nor will the games.
Well, that card will not be maxing out the newer games or crysis anytime soon. It is practically a GTX and the max resolution for it isnt all that great. video editing should be fine. but in all honesty i would just pick up a second hand gtx 470 atm for the same price.
@tachi203 I actually ended up switching to another card because I couldn't get the overscan on this one to work with my LCD TV. NVidia wasn't any help, either... their phone support guy was a complete idiot.
@MindPower009 Well, just try to remember that theyre trained to assume everyone is an idiot, and are mistrained in communications/helpdesk rather than being trained in repair. Which of course will always piss us off. The overscan only takes issue at a 1920x1080 and above, even though it says the maximum resolution is 2560x1600, I wouldnt trust that as the card isnt really powerful enough to render properly at those kind of resolutions anyway. What did you switch to?
@tachi203 This guy was insisting that the Nvidia HDMI-to-DVI connector is the only one that works with their card, and I verified that he was out of his gourd. Anyway, I ended up getting an ASUS EAH5770 1g card. The EVGA card wouldn't scale to my TV no matter what resolution I set it at. This never was a problem before, but it seems with the newer cards they've taken away the control you'd have over the lower resolutions. I'm not a gamer, all I care about is that movies look awesome :)
@BroBryce2009 Good choice in the 5770, highly scalable. I ownd a XFX 5770 superclocked before the GF100(Fermi) series got released, was a very good card for general purpose task's such as high def movies/games...Yet when it came to maxing out the settings, I always noticed it felt slightly off...almost unnoticable thou. I prsonaly have a tri GTX 470's now(Im still in top 100 for 3dMark 11 benchmarks :D) and o yes does it suck power..... I feel you should have brought a HD6850 for the money.
@mogrodu That's a great point! The PSU I've got installed now (see watch?v=UzolRkN7Eew) is a 630W model. The GTS 450 SC requires 400+ watts, so I think I'm covered. Now I am really glad I replaced my old 300W PSU.
@Roxsas94 small? I'm gonna hafta take a look at that ATI, because this is the biggest video card I've seen yet. Of course it's been a year or two since I've been shopping for a video card, so things do change! :)
@Roxsas94 I think your card is the same width, but it looks longer. You'll see the hard time I had with getting mine to fit once I get the new video done.

@MrCharlieboden its not possible for it to be too big for your motherboard. as long as you have a pci-e slot it will work

is it ok to insert GTS 450 video card into pci express 1.0 slot?
6580006247 7 months ago
@6580006247 depends on if the card says it's backward compatible with 1.0

you can't harm your pc by having a large wattage psu, its just not possible. As mindpower said, you pc will only use as much power as it needs.
