Touch osc does work with ableton live 7. Just set up a midi network and connect to it through the osc app on iPad . Then in live just map it it like any other controller. Not that hard and hardly any latency... Just sayin
Yo man how is the latency with this thing? If I were to program it as a drum pad is it pretty instant? What about if I am not using it wirelessly does that help with the latency?
I was just wondering if there is another software other than Osculator that I can use so that Ableton will recognize my iPad as a MIDI Controller. Im running Ableton on Windows 7, and Osculator doesn't run with Windows. What sofware can I download to connect the 2?
can this only be used wirelessly? what if im in a gig with no wireless hub anywhere in sight! and how many instruments can i assign and control at once with the ipad? besides the pads you had on here
Can't you use this with GarageBand? or will it ONLY work with Ableton Live 8? I used osculator with my Wii guitar hero instruments with garageband.... (but my mac crashed COMPLETELY, so I lost EVERYTHING)
I'm can't believe Jazzmutant Lemur is going out of business because of Ipads.
I'd feel a lot better if someone would tell me someone is making a customisable app that supports usb or ethernet connections. Suppose we need to wait for Ipad 3 or some shit before we can do that because Apple doesn't even have those connections on Ipads yet.
@christwagon1980 - Dude, we did better than your suggestion, check out our videos on Youtube channel inspiredkk or go to iConnectivity com or inspired com
why does the application version matter? If it's just sending out midi data shouldn't it be able to be received by any DAW or program that handles midi?
why do u drag osc into this folder? i got an iphone and i dont have to drag and drop anything. ableton recognizes osc without this action i tink or is there any difference between iphone and ipad? i dont think so!?
Holy S#%*! - an actual iPad control for Ableton!!!!!! You da' man Ryan!!!! Don't know if you came out with this "ability" for the iPad, but at least you took the time to show how it's done! F&#@ what everyone else says about you Brotha! I don't see them doing a video on this!!
@greenrolaids are you really that insecure that you have to insult somebody based on their appearance, on youtube, while hiding behind an account by the name of Green Rolaids. Grow up a bit
In order to live music production work under Windows, it's required a sound interface that supports an ASIO driver. ASIO is a third-party replacement for the Windows kernel audio subsystem, the DirectSound. DirectSound provides unacceptable latency (in order of thousands of milliseconds), and therefore can't be used. ASIO works good, but as a third-party solution it can never be fast and stable like Mac OS-X integrated audio subsystem, the CoreAudio.
dan i connect this to my ns7, and how much would all this cost ], not including the ipad or laptop. thank you (great video) should i use it for djing and does it need wifi to work?

@fadornelas what's wrong with running it on windows? four tet uses a pc to run ableton live and i'm pretty sure he does fine. my question was to do with internet connections not operating systems.
@polidosk8 yes and no. In order to live music production work under Windows, it's required a sound interface that supports an ASIO driver. @fadornelas ok, plus if I had the money i would prefer to buy a mac than a laptop like the one i have one which is good but now that im looking into music production and stuff, i would prefer having bought a mac. the whole interface is much better and like you said it's better for music..
how will you use this at gigs if there is no wifi connectivity at a gig venue? do you reckon there will ever be midi bluetooth support or a cable to lower the latency?
@skiersexcuse i know for macs you can "create a network" it doesnt give off internet (unless you are directly plugged in through ethernet) but you can connect your ipad/ipod/iphone to it for midi connection. iTM MidiLab does some of the same thing as the touchosc but its a free way to try it out
This is what I expected that would happen and it's only great, but it still this doesn't convince me to buy an iPad. Although its followers/adversaries may become another story, preferably one with Android running so you could do some crazy open code stuff on it.
So far the latency is imho not great but certainly comes very close to that of Lemur. Let's hope one day that an interface will rise which will have near 0 latency, and somehow will give you tactile feedback, now that would be awesome!
I'm having trouble getting midi signal in ableton. I downloaded OSC touch, the Python script, Osculator, and have the inputs matched up in Ableton preferences. Im running Ableton Suite 8.1 Any ideas what's going on?
Totally don't understand why you seem to need live 8 or a python script once you have osculator. All you need to do is set up touchosc and osculator. No python script necessary. Same stuff works fine.
This is really kool, but it looks like it's just like the Launch Pad, and with the launch pad you don't really need to assign the midi to the buttons, with the launch pad it's all done for you and it's a wee bit cheaper, but still wicked video cheers for that :)
@1couttsben this video is basically showing touch osc working on the ipad and how to get the hardware working with the software components - how to set it up.
Where a touch screen like this is so useful is when you set up faders and dials insted of buttons. In mixer mode on my Launchpad the fader only has 8 levels and when I try to use it to create a headphone mix there steps in the fader make sounds suddenly jump out. It can result in an unsatisfactory mix or in my case nearly going deaf!

@1couttsben in this video he's only using it to trigger clips. Touch OSC gives the iPad the same functionality as a lemur. Not a launchpad. Google Touch OSC and do your homework and you'll see that you can drop faders, knobs etc to control effects or whatever. It's fooking mint. I would rather get a £400 "Lemur" than a £2000 Lemur for now.
hows the latency? i've tried controlling ableton and max with touchosc on an ipod touch and also on the 3Gs. in both cases it was lag city no matter how i configured the network. not to say it was totally unusable but i certainly couldn't use it to write precise automation or record any sort of rhythmic controller data, never mind drum programming. it wasn't exactly the lemur-nano that i hoped for but hopefully the ipad is more responsive
I like the way Ableton Live co-operates with Novation controllers, I wonder if it can work out the same way with iPad. So that I could see in iPad what each knob/slider is linked to in Live.
