  • I bumped into this almost a year after I first listened to and this still gives me goosebumps. It's so freaking everlasting and immortal.

  • I moved to Paros more than a year ago planning to stay three months and have made it my home. I am in love with the light, the rocks, the crazy winds, the passion, all of which I feel deeply in your music and in Fantantouri's voice. I will learn this song in Greek, though I don't know if I could ever sing it without weeping. Ευχαριστο.

  • beautiful...

    from a black/death metalhead freak.

  • Que música é essa??? E essa cantora!!! Incríveis!!! Sons de outro mundo!!

  • Ooops! I didn't realise that a full English translation had already been posted. Apologies to all.

  • It is also probably worth pointing out that Theodorakis is referencing the sections of the Old Testament 'Song of Solomon' aka 'Song of Songs' (Asma Asmaton) where the female protagonist is searching for her beloved and recasting it as the anguished search by a mother for her daughter lost in the Nazi concentration camps. Notice how the orchestration mimics the rhythmic sound of cattle truck wheels on train tracks.

  • Here is the remainder of the translation: Girls of Mauthausen girls of Belsen have you seen my beloved? We saw her in the ice-cold square with a number on her white arm and a yellow star on her heart How beautiful is my beloved caressed by her mother and her brother's kisses Nobody knew she was so beautiful.
  • Here is the first part of a more complete translation made for me by Pericles Kondos: How beautiful is my beloved in her everyday dress and a small comb in her hair Nobody knew she was so beautiful. Girls of Auschwitz girls of Dachau have you seen my beloved? We saw her in a long trip she didn't have her dress any more or a comb in her hair. How beautiful is my beloved caressed by her mother and her brother's kisses Nobody knew she was so beautiful.

  • Qu'elle est belle mon amour

comme elle est gatee par sa mere

et par les baisers de son frere

Personne ne savait qu'elle etait si belle

    Jeunes filles de Auschwitz

    De Dachau jeunes filles

    auriez-vous vu mon amour?

Nous l'avons vue a la place glacee

elle portait un numero sur sa main blanche

et une etoile jaune sur le coeur...

  • i feel so proud for being greek!!!

  • I'm burning, please some one translate this to English.

  • there is allready a translation. Display all the reactions and you will find it

  • O' thanks! Found it.

Uhm, well, I am sure it's all about the aesthetic pulchritude getting lost in translation, or these were not the best translations or something because I find the song WAAAAY more impressing that the lyrics now. Could also be partially because I love Maria, BIG TIME, I don't know. I wish I hadn't read the translation.

    thanks a lot anyhow.

  • You're welcome.

Personally I think the simplicity of the words which have been accurately translated makes the horror of the story of which they tell more strongly felt.

  • I also love the lyric and think simplicity make it stronger. Cause really when love is lost, when love is kill by the injustice and the cruelty what can you say. Hear, the man lost his life, lost everythong, theres not space of intellectual words, cause love uis love anda lost is lost. When the feelings are to deep you cannot waste your time on vannal words. Remember that the is really written by a man in mauthausen and remember his lover.

  • Tnx for the vid Ulco64

    English lyrics bellow

    Greek lyrics on request

  • the most beautifull song I ever heard. Where love is there will always be the beauty of it.

Search in your heart and you will find it

  • I have removed all comments that were not about this music. I feel there are enough fora to ventilate opinions for or against these topics. Myself I think that any attitude that is fueled by "if you are not for us, you are against us" will forever perpetuate strife instead of solving it. If you feel offended or censored by this action I appologize but I do not wish my uploads in the music section to become a political or religious arena.

  • A beautiful comment that I absolutely relate to. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting this amazing music that I was fortunate to grow up with. Bless you

  • Bravo, If everyone did the same, perhaps we will have fewer comments, which are not related to the music!

  • @Ulco64 Well done... sincerely yours : Paris Milonas Roca.
