It is also probably worth pointing out that Theodorakis is referencing the sections of the Old Testament 'Song of Solomon' aka 'Song of Songs' (Asma Asmaton) where the female protagonist is searching for her beloved and recasting it as the anguished search by a mother for her daughter lost in the Nazi concentration camps. Notice how the orchestration mimics the rhythmic sound of cattle truck wheels on train tracks.

Uhm, well, I am sure it's all about the aesthetic pulchritude getting lost in translation, or these were not the best translations or something because I find the song WAAAAY more impressing that the lyrics now. I also love the lyric and think simplicity make it stronger. Cause really when love is lost, when love is kill by the injustice and the cruelty what can you say. Hear, the man lost his life, lost everythong, theres not space of intellectual words, cause love uis love anda lost is lost. When the feelings are to deep you cannot waste your time on vannal words. Remember that the is really written by a man in mauthausen and remember his lover.
