Hey I'm looking for dh board I'm going to be going around 30mhp but I also want to be able to use it for transportation and around low 300 dollars could you recommend trucks and wheels. And I can't slide but I'm going to learn. Thank you
How would you slow down if there was a deer in the street or something? What can you do at those speeds? I havent touched a longboard but I really wanna do downhill, but I also wanna know that I can stop when a deer jumps out :p Any recommendations for the cheapest board I can get?
@turtleman220 Sliding and footbraking my friend! Earthwing makes really high quality affordable boards (usually $100 or less), that's what I'm riding in this video. You can find decent wheels for about $25 on skateboards[dot]com, decent trucks will run you $40-50 and you can just get cheap bearings, I run cheap house bearings in all my trucks. No need to waste money on fancy bearings. For great deals, you can check silverfishlongboarding[dot]com Classifieds, usually good used decks for sale!
@emgeemann Is there anything wrong with buying completes? I found an Atom drop through on amazon for 100 bucks complete, is that good to start out with?
@emgeemann honestly the only thing you should spend good money on is bearings. you will notice a difference in speed. i was wondering why you guys were going pretty slow on those hills.
@longboarding1992 I strongly disagree. These are mellow hills, their max speeds aren't very high. Our tucks weren't ideal, so we could have gone faster with improvements in tucking, but bearing would make an extremely minute difference, especially at these speeds. Patrick Switzer, top downhiller in the world, runs cheap shop bearings.
Hey at that speed, is it really even possible to try and slide it out if your get in trouble? What can you do if you gotta stop, you cant really footbrake at 25 plus, and I cant do a slide going 35 plus. Sick video dude
@themichaelnuckles You can definitely slide at that speed, but it's a little sketchier and will require some more distance to slow down. But it's definitely possible to both footbrake and slide at 40+. If I had time, I'd probably airbrake a bit to drop some speed then slide.
@telorgoodchap8 Cheap and rock-solid. It's more protective than aero helmets, although it is a bit larger and heavier. For the money, you can't beat it.
OK I just got the switch from.landyachtz it has bear 452 grizzly trucks abec 7 speed bearings and zombie hawgs 84a 76mm wheels should I get a better set up for downhill/free ride?
what kind of longboard do you have? I just got one and when I get up to those speeds my board starts to wobble !and lose control no matter how still I am!
@FIVOS45 NO! the trucks will be to lose. You will get massive speed wobble before you get anywhere near those speeds. I have a beginner longboard and i get speed wobble at around 30 mph. You also dont have as much stability as skateboards are smaller and better bearings will aslo be needed. TBH it is just easier to buy a longboard.
@Spoonclan thank you for the answer, but i am talking about downhills that you get like 10 mph max. i will probably bust my butt trying to get speed more than 10mph..
i've been scared to go fast since monday. i was being pulled up a street holding on to my friends window. it's a really rough street and my board started to shake i let go and then went down. got road rash all under my armpit and my chin has a big gash. i hate going fast
@Aa1133Cc Going fast and skitching are two entirely different things. Namely, you should regularly do the former, and never the latter. Skitching is dangerous and lots of people get rocked while doing it, including yourself.
@Aa1133Cc i used to be scared of going fast.. but i found some hills which have an uphill at the bottom so you dont have to slow dows because the hill does it for you.. when you know slowing down is easy to do your not worried about going fast.. it gets your confidence up to start sliding and foot breaking
@emgeemann What happens if you hit a fair sized rock or pot hole or something? I have never longboarded before and I'm trying to convince my parents lo let me get one. But I have to know what im getting into before.
@OxygenMcgee well this guy is rlly good, for ur first year u probably wont break 30. longboardings realy fun, just get a nice sector nine cruiser, and expand from there. P.S. IMO Loaded longboards are not great fro the amount they cost. i would advise staying away from them
@lpratt67 Im going to dover this summer. My grandparents live there, and i was wondering if you might want to meet up sometime. Trying to locate the hills on gmaps is hard haha.

know any sick places to go in worcester? i may be going there for college coming from hills in california so i dont wanna miss out on my favorite passtime
@caseydillam I know that Holy Cross's campus is perched up on a pretty big hill, definitely some good riding there. It's a fairly hilly city, and right next door is fitchburg, the hilliest city in Massachusetts. You'll definitely have some proper shredding, just watch out for cars!
@skataboyjake I prefer the elise stock because the MM is a bit too long, but I recently cut down my MM to belly racer dimensions and I love iit now. So light, nimble and solid, it's a great topmount
not to be a dick but your tuck is pretty bad. sorry :/
the air pocket between your legs is huge you should bring your knee into the back of the other knee so there is no space, not by your foot. and bring your chest down to your your knees leaving no space, keep your back straight and bring you back/ass up high
@ItalianGamer360 They are a bit more stable and carve deeper, but since they're wider they have a bit slower response. @emgeemann hard falls bro lol ive gone down going like 25 and messed up my knees haha i cant efford leathers haha knee pads do teh trick lol nice rideing btw keep it up
@tayler0528 Yeah man the hill at 2:05 is pretty damn steep, clocked at 49-50 mph peak, thanks for the comment! I really want leathers too, just wish they werent so damn expensive
@emgeemann just buy a cheap 2 piece for now. you can pick em up for like $125 brand new. it's better than nothin. my friend races in a 2 piece and it works just fine.
@nineball87 Dope dude! Come out to our event on August 21st. DH race, freeride, flatland competitions, all on a closed road with tons of sponsored prizes. $10 entry and free food and plenty-o-stoke
@emgeemann yea the guys at eastern boarder said its been goin on for a couple years. is it an open entry? idk if im doing dh or freeride tho. but ill definately ride. ill probably bring my honey velocity
@nineball87 It's actually the first time it'll be running. I'm the organizer and it's been a ton of work but if all goes well we'll definitely be doing it big next year too! Check the facebook event (search central MA DH & freeride event it should show up) so you can RSVP. it's open entry, $10 if you compete.
@Glitch2000 Flipping Randals just lowers them, not the angle. I'm using a 28* baseplate wedged to 35*. Also, I find it impossible to bite on the Elise, even with Bigzigs, and I run my trucks LOOSE. Maybe you are running lower trucks than you are meant to. The Elise is a board meant to be high off the ground. Also, my wheelbase is redrilled, so that could have something to do with it.
@AbnormalNO I've hit woodside a good amount, but the 4 runs in this video were actually my first times hitting the crazy steep drop on bare so I haven't linked them yet. Not a bad idea though!
Laura, Russ and Mike, nice job and editing. I don't want to be a "kill-joy" here but I assume those streets were NOT closed down for filming. If that's the case it would take only one distracted lady on a cell phone or fussing with her kid in a car seat to back out of those driveways and kill you on the spot. The sport of downhill longboarding needs to set up organized meets where streets can be safely closed off. Encouraging young dudes to take to the streets with traffic is asking 4 trouble.
@brassspitoon You're right but Laura was actually stopping cars on that real fast hill. I do agree though, but alas, streets can't always be closed and as such, the sport comes with inherent risks.
Nice

indig0Childr3n 5 months ago
@indig0Childr3n One of them has a fullbag elise. It sounds so me like one of the following:
A) You need to tighten your trucks
B) You need wheels with more grip (i.e. sharp not rounded edge)
C) more confidence, because 80% of the time wobbles happen because in your head you feel like you're going too fast and you're out of control
D) You might have to work on a more stable tuck
E) You didn't say what type of deck, wheels, or trucks you have..I'm assuming your deck might be too flexy maybe

@tayler0528 Yeah man the hill at 2:05 is pretty damn steep, clocked at 49-50 mph peak, thanks for the comment! I really want leathers too, just wish they werent so damn expensive
emgeemann 1 year ago
@emgeemann just buy a cheap 2 piece for now. you can pick em up for like $125 brand new. it's better than nothin. my friend races in a 2 piece and it works just fine.

Aye, I just got the Elise not long ago. I had such a hassle setting it up so it wouldn't get wheel bite. Did you have this issue?!
Also, did you have to flip the back truck to get it to 35*?
Glitch2000 1 year ago
@Glitch2000 Flipping Randals just lowers them, not the angle. I'm using a 28* baseplate wedged to 35*. Also, I find it impossible to bite on the Elise, even with Bigzigs, and I run my trucks LOOSE. Maybe you are running lower trucks than you are meant to. The Elise is a board meant to be high off the ground. Also, my wheelbase is redrilled, so that could have something to do with it.

Do you set up a Woodside detour on the West Barehill run?
AbnormalNO 1 year ago
@AbnormalNO I've hit woodside a good amount, but the 4 runs in this video were actually my first times hitting the crazy steep drop on bare so I haven't linked them yet. Not a bad idea though!

Where in harvard are these hills?
NashawtuckLongboards 1 year ago
Laura, Russ and Mike, nice job and editing. I don't want to be a "kill-joy" here but I assume those streets were NOT closed down for filming. If that's the case it would take only one distracted lady on a cell phone or fussing with her kid in a car seat to back out of those driveways and kill you on the spot. The sport of downhill longboarding needs to set up organized meets where streets can be safely closed off. Encouraging young dudes to take to the streets with traffic is asking 4 trouble.
brassspitoon 1 year ago
@brassspitoon You're right but Laura was actually stopping cars on that real fast hill. I do agree though, but alas, streets can't always be closed and as such, the sport comes with inherent risks.
emgeemann 1 year ago
@brassspitoon If only the sport were popular enough to get that kind of support. As it is, it's take to the streets, or quit.
