Yes it has three envelopes. You cannot trigger them via MIDI. They're triggered by the incoming audio or a seperate CV input. You can control the envelopes and filter cutoffs via MIDI which can yield some cool results! Check out our new video of the FB2.
I have the Allen and Heath Xone VF1 Analogue Filter, these type of things are awesome to give your music more power, more than just the filter effects, you can use it to permanantley enhance the individual sound of your synths. Check the Allen and Heath website.
MFC42 is definitely to gentle to be a substitute of a sherman, even with its builtin disto'.
Sherman goes beyond classic filtering. If you want to mimic it you had to go the modular way....and you should find that a Sherman is finally not so good compared to the fantastic filters produced for modular systems.
I was used to use sherman, mutator, mfc42, and filterqueen.
Hahahahaha. Excellent comparison. The only one i haven't worked with is the filter queen although I have heard of its "politeness". Nothing matches the sherman tho. You can also have the bad boy castrate the dog if you turn on the distortion section...
i recently got a used filterbank but it was a little beat up so I returned it. I opted for a jomox t-resonator which isn't quite as diverse but it is half the price
Saw this and went over the edge innit..

there are much smaller cleaner sounding sherman filters than this...
gnowave 3 months ago
I was looking at one of these but went with the Ebbe Und Flut instead. The sherman destroys the sounds, it's cool if that's what you want ...

hi, about the sherman
the main out and the input are stereo?
cajetan75 2 years ago
No, this Sherman Filterbank is not stereo. There are two filters and you can get a psuedo stereo effect, but it is not true stereo.
Sherman also makes the 2x2 version which is two Filterbanks in one large rack unit.
bigcitymusic 2 years ago
Nice to have a propr rack option on the sherman Filterbank. But I hat the way the power adapter sticks out of the front! What a dum arse idea.

Can all of the knobs and button functions be controlled through MIDI?
CoffeeKills 2 years ago
Does this have a built in envelope? Or do envelopes all have to be from CV? Also, can it be triggered through midi? or the actual sound source?

Ooooooh! That's nice. Really in the
Transmogrified groove.
Are you gonna put something over this stuff ?
And if ya do can you Synch the filter sweeps up to MIDI or Automation or does it all have to be done by hand...On the fly as it were ?
That's some cool electronica beats !

What rack unit is that?
PilferMusic 3 years ago
It is a Quik Lok rack from Italy. I think they may have stopped shipping these racks (and keyboard stands) to the US several years ago.

what are some similar products?

not much compares with the filterbank or the machinedrum for that matter, but here are some relative alternatives for the sherm;
Metasonix TS-22 Pentode
Electrix FilterFactory
Mutronics Mutator
Vermona Action Filter
MAM Warp 9
as for the machinedrum...
accept no substitues
