alright first off...this is gonna sound harsh, but hate watching high school guards unless there the top world class teams like Logan and Flanagan! haha but this was a great show! im guessing Open?!?! very entertaining! also, was looking at some of the comments on here! I was in ROTC all 4 years of high school and 3 years of college. and of course i was on the ROTC drill team...nothing i did in all my 7 years of RTOC drill team could compare to what I have been able to achieve in Winterguard!

@dance2advance I do, but a lot of great winter guard shows get "inspiration" from other groups. I love this show, and to be honest they did expression crew a lot of justice. It's a beautiful show.
your guard is really clean :) i enjoyed watching it. if only our shows had a theme similar to this. first year was taking flight, second was bells of barcelona, and now we're doing twilight's claire de lune.
i remember the two years our school did guard the first year we had 5 the last year we had i think 5 girls and 5 guys on it ..this year if we had one there would be alot more im sure cause our guard is huge..but no one is interested ..i think a requirement for color guard is you have to be in winterguard as well.. i wanna do at least color guard but it just so expensive at our school..

This guard didn't steal anything, they had an idea SIMILAR to some elses Marionette whatever and Mt. Carmel did their views on Marionettes, thats all. Nothing was stolen, and i'm not even sure why this is still be talked about like 2 years later, good job Mt. Carmel, the show was amazing and you guys are one of the first Scholastic A teams i know of to get a Standing Ovation @ wgi.
Everyone knows this already. There are at least a million comments under yours that say this. :] Please get over it. The show was awesome, the colours were great, and when I saw it at World's that year, I was very excited to see their show. All three times.
Don't be quite so uptight. :] If it bugs you that much, report it to the original marionette show guys, and see what they have to say about it. You dont know the details behind the copyright of that show, for all you know, they'd be completely flattered. Don't forget, life isnt just black and white, especially when dealing with copyrights. I saw this show last year 3 times and every time it got better! Mount carmel, you guys did well. sadly, none the guards sitting in the back(including mine) got to see how truly amazing this was.

Amazing. I was in color guard in high school in a state winning guard and I couldn't tell what that last move was it was so flawless. You girls are good and be thankful that you have such a creative director - and one with skill at that. I ended up moving to a high school with a crappy one and it was sad, sad, sad.
this reminds me a lot of that show out of Tate a few years ago. they did all Amelie music. they also placed top 10 if i remember correctly. this show is done well but not all that original really.
You guys should have won in Dayton, you guys were way better than Colonial HS! And I should know, I'm in the same Circuit at Colonial and that was not their best performance nor did it top your guys! Anyways though, hope you guys have a great performance year this year too!

Hey dumbie who said it was stolen, how do you think high school bands come up with routines. They get ideas from other places. yes, its basically the same at the beginning but while expressions took it to a dance level, these took it to an art level. Very good show guys. enjoyed watching it

if you just swing your arm like a puppet or whatever, does it mean that you are a biter now? think about it for a minute
as for the credit issue, one of these kids said it right that you do need copywright to use the music and stuff. regrettebly, the show wasnt named as a tribute for credit to them but i bet the least expressions would do is chuckle at the attempt (maybe out of flattery).
last fact: expressions disbanded a few years after this show
yeahh so i check out how people are either "dont effin bite off expressions crew"
or "you dont know a thing about what Mt. Carmel has done to ear this"
so here's my word of wisdom:
you haters try put up a puppet show of any kind and try your best NOT to use moves similar to Expressions. when you come up with a GOOD show to put out to an aware audience, let me know
if you stop being biased and air headed, you'll realize all the moves MC "bit" off are all generic and not special at all.
For all of you that are whining about this show being "stolen" I'm assuming that you have never been in winterguard. You don't just pick a song and use it, you have to get the copywrite to it. Also, does it really matter? Even if the ENTIRE show was stolen, the guard members wouldn't have known that. They did a really great job, just give them credit for that.
ok so whatever you guys may think this idea is amazing. I dont care who stole what. These kids sure know how to spin. The elastic bands at the end i have seen used in drum corp and is very effective everytime. I say kudos to the performers you guys really out on a show. :)

The "whole" routine was not taken. Just the first minute or so.
It's not like Expressions copyrighted their moves. If they did, they would look like an a** like that one guy who copyrighted the Electric Slide.
Did this guard not evolve the concept? Did you even watch the middle section? There was dance with actual strings, ropes, and other moves that were clearly not from Expressions.

These must be very young and/or not yet matured people,as anyone who has been in this business for any time would get that the copyright permissions are given by the composer/publisher/owner of the music, and these people grant permission to numerous groups.

Costumes, formation changes, color schemes, etc. We cannot help but be affected by what has gone before us. STEAL implies violation. The first song is Le Moulin,
the second song is la valse d'amelie the orchestra version,
the third song is J'y suis jamais allé, the fourth song is A Quai

The flags have a retractable strap in them so they can do things that make it look like the flag is floating but it's not

Hey dumbie who said it was stolen, how do you think high school bands come up with routines. They get ideas from other places. yes, its basically the same at the beginning but while expressions took it to a dance level, these took it to an art level. Very good show guys. enjoyed watching it

that was so kewl, my guard actaully used that same music from the beginning in 2007 winter guard and we were puppets. that is so awesome.

if you just swing your arm like a puppet or whatever, does it mean that you are a biter now? think about it for a minute
as for the credit issue, one of these kids said it right that you do need copywright to use the music and stuff. regrettebly, the show wasnt named as a tribute for credit to them but i bet the least expressions would do is chuckle at the attempt (maybe out of flattery).
last fact: expressions disbanded a few years after this show

so here's my word of wisdom:
you haters try put up a puppet show of any kind and try your best NOT to use moves similar to Expressions. when you come up with a GOOD show to put out to an aware audience, let me know
if you stop being biased and air headed, you'll realize all the moves MC "bit" off are all generic and not special at all.

For all of you that are whining about this show being "stolen" I'm assuming that you have never been in winterguard. You don't just pick a song and use it, you have to get the copywrite to it. Also, does it really matter? Even if the ENTIRE show was stolen, the guard members wouldn't have known that. They did a really great job, just give them credit for that.

ok so whatever you guys may think this idea is amazing. I dont care who stole what. These kids sure know how to spin. The elastic bands at the end i have seen used in drum corp and is very effective everytime. I say kudos to the performers you guys really out on a show. :)

you people who are complaining about this entire show being stolen from this expression crew.. u know if this is the music they use.. and they have the copywrites. this school does have to get the rights to it.... so.. maybe u should check that out too before u go and slander some kids who have no idea..

all i can say for people who are comparing this to whatever this expressoin crew is.. is that the whole puppet idea for a color guard show was done back in 1997 (i think) by everybody color guard...strings and all.. and who ever is saying the group should be ashamed of ripping something off.. i think you are wrong. if u should be mad at anyone.. it's the staff of the color guard.. not the students performing.. they probably have no idea.....

The "whole" routine was not taken. Just the first minute or so.
It's not like Expressions copyrighted their moves. If they did, they would look like an a** like that one guy who copyrighted the Electric Slide.
Did this guard not evolve the concept? Did you even watch the middle section? There was dance with actual strings, ropes, and other moves that were clearly not from Expressions.

if Expression had stolen your idea, i would have been really disappointed and also written such comments to them
BUT you stole Expressions idea, and not only the idea, but also big parts of the choreography
i think guard is cool, you guard girls and boys have my respect, but not my respect for stealing, i also dont have respect for b-girls and b-boys that steal
if you "transform" it in this way, you HAVE TO CREDIT EXPRESSIONS BEFORE EVERY PERFORMANCE AT LEAST
then nobody would be so mad

I am sure that, if honest, the Expressions people would admit that they got the idea from someplace else... There is NO SUCH THING as a truly original idea. And, the saying goes, "imitation is the most sincere form of flattery." These must be very young and/or not yet matured people,as anyone who has been in this business for any time would get that the copyright permissions are given by the composer/publisher/owner of the music, and these people grant permission to numerous groups.

Yo, Dynamite, I said no such thing as "truly original." Truly original: compose new music, invent new equipment, design a new format for performance, etc....we all borrow. Costumes, formation changes, color schemes, etc. We cannot help but be affected by what has gone before us. STEAL implies violation. I guess, by your standards, no one can paint a sunflower again, right Van Gogh? Improvement is progress, not theft and I am writing from my laptop as opposed to my Commodore 64...

true well high school winterguards get thier music and rifle/flag/sabre work from their instructors so people who talk abt this guard sshould bk off because they are only doin what they're told and their persomance was amazing very clean
