  • Vanessa Bell Armstrong!! What more can I say!

  • dont ever think of parking in deacon frye's parkin space!!!!

  • Sing it Vanessa! Amazing theme song, and I miss shows like this.

  • @VaultMasterDBT Oh, ok. I didn't know that. Interesting.

  • In west philly

  • Does anyone know where this intro was filmed at in Philadelphia? I live across the river in Jersey and visit Philly sometimes. I would love to know if those extras in this intro are still alive too.

  • Try to sing this song, it hard and you will crack your voice.

  • LOVE this piece of spiritual insparation GLORY TO GOD.

  • My parents let me watch this if I didnt have any homework to do over the weekend the last couple seasons

  • Does anyone know where this intro was filmed in Philadelphia? I would love to know!

  • I love that a show about a Christian church was created by a guy named Ed Weinberger.

  • @SEHANO He created another one (which also included Roz Ryan in the starring cast) called Good News a little while after Amen ended.

  • @SEHANO

    lol

  • Lines or words or whateva. Like it matters. N e way its still bass ackwards

  • GMC edits too much when they air their re runs. They act so Holier than thou but then they can air Dont Forget the Lines playin secular music.

  • i just found out he was 17 years younger than "Weezy Jefferson"..

  • I watched a rerun of Amen yesterday. The Deacon was imaging what it would be like if Thelma and Reuben lived with him and he had this whore with him. Reuben says, I'm just writing tomorrow's sermon. Promiscuity, The bullet train to Satan! LOL!!

  • @Fanik10 - Haha! I saw that episode yesterday...lol! Then the girl said something like... "You're a minister?? This skirt must have shrunk in the dryer"...lol! I can't really remember if that was what she said, but she said SOMETHING to that affect.

  • @neetrab that just killed me!!

  • i love how shows back then would show stills from the episode in the closing.

  • Maaaan! Sister Armstrong had to dig deep and grab that note at 0:34...u can hear the spirit in her voice

  • the bass player is dope...... i didnt know they were playing like that back in the 80s

  • Look how fast Deacon Frye's feet move after he does double dutch! LOL! For some reason, I always noticed that! Sherman Hemsley was the funniest man on TV!

  • man i remember watching this as a kid I had no idea what was going but I still watched it

  • Another great theme song and show from back in the day.

  • I live for the VOICE of Vanessa Bell Armstrong!!! I remember when this show came out, we already had Vanessa's first two albums ("Peace Be Still" and "Chosen"), so her voice was UNMISTAKEABLE. My mom and I got all excited yelling "SING, VANESSA!!!" @ the TV screen. It was a decent show, but the THEME song was the BEST part of it! :-)

  • @loopyman76 She has a really nice voice; made the opener the best part of the show.

  • @loopyman76 I was watching reruns and noticed how awesome the theme is, wonder if they made a longer version lol

  • This show was awesome!!!

  • i am not a fan of gospal music but i like the music to this show.

  • Lyrics for the song "Amen" written by Jester Hairston for the movie "Lilies of the Field"

  • Notice the ending, "Carson Productions" as in the late great Johnny Carson.

  • No one can fuck with his strut lol

  • this show is comedy..... awww the old shows are the best.

  • vanessa put here heart n soul n to this theme song... they don't do it like that no more that n heat of the night was too much...

  • CHUUUUUCH!

  • Is that Vanessa Bell Armstrong leading the theme song?

  • WHO THE HECK SAMPLED THIS THEME SONG? I know, i just know i heard that opening piano riff slowed down and looped somewhere, I gotta find it

  • Gospel Music Channel and TvOne air this show. GMC also airs 227.

  • Shouting! I love this song!

  • This has to be arguably one of the best theme songs ever made...

  • I love how he still struts like George Jefferson! LoL

  • its also on gmc channel 338 and i miss him dearly on the jeffersons and there that famous walk yall know what am talking about ! ; )

  • omg was that cuba gooding jr lol

  • This woman sanggg this song amen

  • Reruns on Tv one still retain the MCA TV logo at the end.

  • Let me say this:

The church is suppose to be a place to serve God and to Worship God, but nowadays, alot of churches are about 3 things:

    Ego, Money and Politics

I think that the church needs to go back to being about God's Business and not trying to tear down other people, other churches and judging people and some of these preachers needs to start teaching about the Word of God and not judging other people or celebs

We need to start praying for others and start praying for these churches

  • SPECIAL THANKS TO LEGENDARY GOSPEL ARTIST VANESSA BELL ARMSTRONG FOR LENDING HER VOICE TO "AMEN" INTRO. SHE'S VERY TALENTED. I MUST SAY THAT "AMEN" IS ONE OF THE MOST FAMILY FRIENDLY SHOWS IN THE 1980s. MAKES ME WANT TO BOW DOWN ON MY KNEES & PRAY EVERY DAY!!!

  • where is this church at in phila????

  • Man I didn't know how much I loved this song

  • This song WILL make you believe!! Y'ALL BETTER GIVE THE LORD SOME PRAISE UP IN HERE! :-)

  • @gameshowluvr86 AMEN!!!! THANK YA LORD FOR THE OLD DAYS TV SHOW

  • STRUT DEACON STRUT

  • Dont anyone dare park in the Deacons PARKING SPACE!!!!!

  • saturday nights were off da chain in the 80's. amen and 227 were my favorite saturday night shows. bring it back

  • @rposey971 Amen and 227 can be seen on TV One from time to time

  • @tnawcwvictoria ya but it aint the same as when we was young all tvs made scence

  • So who sang this version of this song? Because its great!

  • Ha! Now THAT'S an opening theme song!

  • I was never a big fan of the show. I thought it was ok, but I never really got into it. The theme song, though, is unreal. I don't know if it was ever made into a longer song, but it should've been. That's coming from a white guy who grew up in a quiet Lutheran church!

  • @palmetto82turtle LOL, I grew up in a Lutheran church too, but I'm African American. :)

  • Amen was one of the most underrated sitcoms of the 80's.

  • I screamed like a white lady at church!

  • LOL @ Cuba Gooding Jr. on the outro film.

  • @cocoapeach he plays a brotha named KENNY!!! i have never met a brotha in life name KENNY lol

  • came on after Aresenio Hall show channel 9 12:30am early 90's

  • WICKED THEME SONG... LISTEN TO HER WAAIILLLLL ! LOVE THIS

  • @timothyj1966 - Did you know that Aretha Franklin and Pattie Labelle auditioned for this song? I guess you know who's performance/version they liked the best! This takes nothing away from the Queen and Pattie, it just lets you know there is always somebody out there who can sing you under the table! I think Vanessa sings in her sleep, when she snores. LOL Wish I could trade voices. lol

  • I remember when the song got all amped up after he escapes from the jumps ropes.I used to get so pump.

Cmon if you didnt get excited when he step out of those jump ropes yous ah mother fuckin lie (sorry for the profanity....got caught up in the moment)

  • @lopytube Me too. This is holy ghost shouting music right here. CHURCH!!!!!!!! :)

  • I love this show. I miss the funny sitcoms in the 70s and 80s. That reality stuff now is horrible.

  • @RetroJenny tell it jenny tell it speak the truth!!!!! amen!!!

  • Can someboy put up the dang episodes?!

  • @KidATL06 it comes on GMC and tvone i think

  • Hey Universal. Put this show on DVD already,

  • we ve all become robotic with all this technology and so have our tv programming with reality shows sounds robotic. Definitely no heart like 80s and 90s shows

  • we ve all become robotic with all this technology and so have our tv programming with reality shows sounds robotic. Definitely no heart like 80s and 90s shows

  • one of those shoes I used to watch with my grandma. I miss those days!

  • Rockin'!

  • oh man,i wish we could go back in time.now all we got are these stupid reality shows

  • @Houstonboihou

preach it !!! say it child you hit the hammer on the nail

  • This is one of my all-time theme songs. It's so catchy and it makes me feel great! :)

  • One of my fav sitcom's of all time and this was one of my fav tv theme songs. Venessa Bell Armstrong tore this song up.

  • @OverlordR Hey man, I went to amazon and listened to clips of that album "Dance" you were referring to and I thought man did Sherman Hemsly really create this? Much respect to him, but that album was awful!!!! Hahaha...

  • Was that Cuba Gooding Jr in the end credits?

  • dudes only a deacon but got best parking spot in the church. lol. I had a red olds like his but 2 doors

  • Loved this tv show!

  • I love that little dance Sherman Hemsley does after he finishes skipping rope! This was a great show.

  • Venessa Bell Armstrong song the mess out this theme song, love it.

  • @365Boogiedown THAT'S WHO WAS SINGING THAT SONG???

  • great show great memories!!!!!!!!!!

  • It's funny how my two fav. tv themes of all time Amen and The Jeffersons respectively starred Sherman Hemsley. Interesting...

  • @INRGEE05 Maybe so, but I bet even you wouldn't dig his dance music album from 1993. lol

  • Damn, I miss this show!

  • Agree 100%

  • Come back to us Sherman Hemsley. We miss you.

  • Is that a 1987 Olds 98 he pulls up in?

  • @spudtv - I believe you're spot on. It's either that or an Olds Eighty-Eight. My aunt used to drive one back around this time.

  • @spudtv It's a 1986 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight Regency Brougham. In one episode, there was a clear, albeit short shot of the front end. It had quad headlamps and the grill had a body-colored divider bar. Without seeing the front, it could easily be mistaken for an '85, as the CHMSL (center high-mounted stop lamp) was option for that model year. 1987 introduced a host of changes for the Ninety Eight line, so it could easily be distinguished from the '85 and '86 models. I hope this helps. :)

  • @spudtv it's an 1985 ninety eight, the show came out the same year the car was introduced

  • the show came out September '86.

  • 227 came out in '85+

  • @spudtv Probably a 1986. That's when the show started and it was the same intro throughout.

  • @spudtv ya

  • @spudtv Those were pimp back then. My parents had an 88 and they called my relatives (who had 98s) "fat cats."

  • @spudtv yes ... pimpISH

  • i love this show
