Pretty much every time I have some extra time after check in, I've done a meal or snacks there. The prices are quite reasonable, especially if you compare them to what options you have IN the terminal itself. The food and service have never made me note anything negative, (always been positive) and the setting/"ambiance" is unique. I don't work there, although I've worked in restaurants for many years. The elevator and decor overall makes me smile. Nice place, kudos to the staff.
The views from the restaurant are equally amazing. The amount of activity at the airport ensures that the kinetics surround you constantly with planes taking off and landing in quick succession and with cars and pedestrians streaming in every direction.
I never been out of Australia. But I always associate LAX with Encounters. I like the retro look of the building. It reminds me of a space ship, parked in the middle of the airport.
The Theme Building was originally part of a "Los Angeles Jet Age Terminal Construction" project, which began in 1960. The building itself was completed in August 1961 for $2.2-million. The current Encounter restaurant opened in 1997, and the reconstruction of the Theme Building began in August 2008.
This restaurant is an absolute marvel to behold, reflecting a space-age image and beautiful in appearance. It mirrors the extraordinary genius of American architects of the sixties.
