  • Hi Joanie,

I lost most of my pre-op weight by using the EAS 100% whey protein. I wasn't given any set diet so I just created my own plan, I did a shake for breakfast and one for lunch. A half of banana in the chocolate and frozen blueberries in the vanilla worked really well. If I wanted to sweeten it up, I might toss in a packet of Splenda.

You will look and feel just wonderful down the road.

  • good luck to you on your surgery.

  • Thanks for subscribing. Its awesome your working on taking care of yourself. The last few weeks I have done well with getting my blood sugar under control and loosing some weight too. Its surely hard work, but I feel much better.

I will be looking forward to watching your videos.

    Bless ya :)

  • Thank-you!

  • Also not to scare but you have diabetes and any surgery is dangerous !

  • I'm not scared...being fat and having diabetes is dangerous also..I'm taking steps to be healthier!

  • Did you read my other comment ?

  • Comment removed

  • Me too...I'm leaning toward the original Lap-band at the moment but who knows I may change my mind again begore surgery day..grrrr

  • LOL Joanie, I am just as confused as you are as to which band I want. If I were to get the Realize band, I would get the Realize-C.

  • congrates on your surgery date. so cool. keep watching ppls videos. i was sure i wanted the adjustable band until i learned about vertical sleeve. good luck deciding. i think its the hardest part. waves~~~

  • Thanx! I'm sure I'm getting the band...just not sure which band yet..decisions decisions...lol

  • the first few days of the liquid really sucks, after that its cake. I think as long as you went absolutly ZERO carbs it would be ok. I wouldnt do salad though, because veggies can have carbs, I would do a small ckicken breast or something like that. Good luck hun!

  • Good point thank you...I never thought of the veggies being carbs. I just need to suck it up I guess..lol Everyone else has survived it and I will too..:)

  • Congrats on your date!!! I had to 10-day liquid diet. I think that is total BS that your doctor's office charges you an extra $1000!!! Good luck to you!!

  • Thanx! I think it's BS too!

  • WOO HOO HAPPY BDAY TO U!! I was so glad when i finished all my labs! Sorry im gonna be a RNY (april 24th whoo hoo) The Chike is AWESOME!! I LOVED the banana! Also u can add things to ur choc like i add pnut butter to mine or banana. (got a new one comming up watch for video soon) Check out my samples video. My dr does a 24 hr liquid diet. but i do have to try to lose 10 percent of weight pre op. IM SO EXCITED!! ARE U?? Ive even started packin bags! i fly to my surgery to another island lol.

  • I am excited! a little nervous too but I think that is normal. I haven't started packing my bag yet..I'm only staying overnight anyway so I won't need much...but I've started shopping and stocking my pantry and freezer with stuff for post-op. Good luck to you on your surgery..we can follow each other!

  • Im not really nervous at all...well at least not yet! lol. I ve got to fly to honlulu and i live in hilo (big island) so its a 45 min flight. I will be gone couting hospital time and motel time 3 wks! ive started stockin as well! lol. I totaly recomend a digital scale to measure food! Also the protein powder something advanced at walmart are good i bought the choc and just got vanilla (tried 1st vanilla 2day w/some banana in it) Yes good luck on urs as well!

  • Hi Beth..thanx for the input about Chike...I was hoping it was good...I liked that it was diabetic friendly and it sure smells good anyway! I'll be sure and let you know about the Syntrax ones as I try them. I hope you get a date soon so we can be losing together!

  • I wanna date too! :( lol Congrats Joanie on the date! btw I've tried the chocolat Chike and I liked it. I'm diabetic too and the 2g sugar I felt wasn't so bad. 27g protein in a half serving makes this a good choice for me. Tomorrow trying the orange dream flav. yummy. Hope to find others to try before surgery. Let me know what you like of the Syntrax, if any please? Beth

  • Woohoo!! Congrats on the surgery date! Wow, they give you a choice on bands?? I just took what they gave me. lol I didn't even know until they told me. I have the lapband it's a 10cm band Allergan brand with a 5cc capacity. It's just a brand choice mainly... I'm going to check out the protein powders by syntrex. I hope they are good. I HATE my protein powders. I use a protein bar and a premade shake. They all suck basically..lol!!! Take care and congrats again!

  • I haven't tried them yet myself..lol I should probably start experimenting now! I've got several brands and flavors and I've stocked up on fresh fruit that I washed and put in the freezer...so maybe with a little doctoring up I can come up with something I can live with...:)

  • Yeah, it's me again! hehehe Does the lap band do the same as the RNY, and immediately take diabetes away? Or does it (diabetes) get better as you loose the weight? I was so impressed with the RNY and it's affect on diabetes, I'm wondering why you choose the band over the bypass. Oh, I'm going to be in your neck of the woods next week. Going to Tampa to see my parents. Sorry, I'm so long winded in your comments today! Best of luck to you! Cami

  • Hi Cami..You can be as long winded as you want in my comments! :) I chose the lap-band mainly because it's the only one my PCP would approve..lol That and I'm too chicken to do anything more drastic. I don't know if it affects the diabetes as quickly but my Dr says we will have to watch it closely and adjust insulin probably starting with the pre-op diet. My surgeon feels confident that I will be off my meds soon after...I hope so. ~Joanie

  • Oh and BTW...it's HOT here...so bring the summer clothes and sunscreen..enjoy your time here! ~Joanie

  • About the liquid diet - some surgeons are just better at the surgery than others, and don't need for folks to shrink their livers - others think it's safer to not have a liquid diet, person who is a weak, dizzy patient on their table. I had to do 2 shakes, and 4 oz protein and half cup veggie for dinner. I got the RNY not the band.

  • Making the decision is the worst, but once you decide, you'll be fine! :) Congrats on the surgery date! Maybe you could ask your nutritionist if she/he has samples for you? I'm excited for you! Hugs, Cami

  • I am so glad you have a surgery date!!! I am really excited for you! I can't wait to see your transformation!

  • Thank you...having a date makes it real..exciting!

  • Talk about a birthday present! Woohoo! I had RNY so I can't help with which band but I'm sure you'll get some opinions. If your doc says do liquid, do liquid. He/she has their own protocol based on what works for them. In the big scheme of things, looking back it will be a drop in the bucket and so worth the time/sacrifice. Congrats and best of luck!

  • I'm sure I will follow her instructions...I just always question things..must be the rebel in me..haha
