I got to be in this show as a little nine year old. My part was "Children of Anetevka" and I loved it! It ignited my joy for acting once and for all. This was definitely one of my favorite scenes.
Well, in my mind nothing can compare to the original movie, but you two did good. Really good for being on stage and not in the woods :p I love this song.
Ok. you guys can't read apparently. I said the note is hard to hit, then sustain for 4 measures while dancing around for the length of the song. Sure it's easy to do while standing still in the crook of a piano, but being a tenor, or singing it higher doesn't mean anything other than a lack of respect for the composer who wrote the song like it was for a reason. And I don't give a shit what you can hit Josh, wait till you get into some college/professional choirs.
next time you comment on singing fearthebait, please have a real reasons to justify your argument, as you obviously dont know what ur talking about in this comment.
no one in their right mind wuld cast someone hu could not hit that last note as it is only a D. david obviously has no trouble hitting the note. and it is EXTREMELY obvious that he does not use his head voice in the verses. again, noone in their right mind would cast this role with someone hu cannot hit a D. im 16 years old and can hit the russian tenor notes in this show with ease. obviously any video of this song that you have viewed contains a performer that is not adequate for this role.
A big cause of people not hitting that last note is because they tend to stay in there head voice after hitting the top notes in the first verse. They stay up there and as we all know, it's ridiculously hard to belt in head voice for a guy who is dancing around!
Fearthebait...the note is not ridiculously hard by any means...it's actually pretty darn low, especially for a tenor. Check out the video of me singing it in my channel...I sang it even higher because I didn't feel any real excitement from that note.
@EvanOz85 You sang the whole song too high. there are parts that should be higher. and usually the lyricist and the composer have a reason for everything they do. Things like that should not be changed.
@ben2584292 - I'm guessing you've never listened to any Broadway cast recordings where actors take liberties with notes. It's nothing new. As for singing the whole song too high...what are you talking about? I sang it in the original key which is higher than the key used in the movie. The only notes I changed were the last two. If you have any more comments about my performance, leave them on MY video please..but first educate yourself a little. Thanks.
im playing motel in our school production. it will be my stage debut and im very very nervous, does any1 have any tips for me on how to perfect the role or motel? if so please reply when you can
Ringo has a good point. Just try to feel as though you REALLY love the girl who is playing her. I am in rehearsals for Fiddler, and it's worked for me so far.
Great acting! But i know I'm not the only one who thought that he doesn't sound to good. To me it sounded like he talked the whole song, and it was flat. but everything else was nice especially the set.
I was tzeitel when we did this for our musical, and we made part of it into a duet, it was a really cool. cept the choreographer wanted us to not be by each other...we changed that :-) well done.
that was great. clear too. he did mess up though. i thought the sng was over when he said "is the one i thought could never be.." haha.. great performnace!

Nice performance :).
This song is an absolute monster - almost no space to breathe, pacey as anything and tricky lyrics to remember.

That last note is not difficult. Why can't anyone hit it?

It is rather ridiculous that nobody do it. xD

I noticed the same thing. But it's probably because they just want to spice it up.

What I did when I played the role was pretend I was falling in love again with my first love. sounds wierd but it worked for me.

When I played this part, I actually DID fall in love with the woman playing my wife. :-)
(and vise versa). Good memories...

No, he did it correctly, according to the script. You may be comparing it to the movie, which doesn't follow the script 100%
garymull2 3 years ago
I haven't seen the script, but the version I've heard goes, "...is that out of a worthless lump of clay, God has made a man today!"
rktect78 3 years ago
Yes, you're right. He did mess it up a little. I didn't catch it at first, because he covered well and got back to the correct verse quickly.
garymull2 3 years ago
Actually.... I didn't! I messed up the line the one night it was recorded!
Thanks guys!
I love the self esteem boost I got from reading all your comments!
