The disturbing new trend in German concept cars, give it a black background some electric blue here and there on a white or black surface, and play crappy techno the entire time.
Looks good but its still not something everyone wants. Mainly because of price. And this is a concept. What are the chances. They need to get it out there. How price.
To all of you wetting your pants over this 'green planet' vehicle: And just where will the electricity come from to charge this little electric car? Oh, that's right: From the power companies who will now have to INCREASE production to meet all the demand if these sell in volume. So where's the savings now? More power demands mean MORE dependency on foreign oil and domestic coal since Lord Obama has blocked all reasonable attempts at increasing domestic oil production and the Canadian pipeline!
@BigChiefLtd1 Actually, they won't need to increase capacity as most people will charge at night, when demand is low. Perhaps you should research these things before you post. I'll give you a pass, as I was unaware of such things until the Taum Sauk Reservoir accident back in 2004. (google it)
This is a good point but you have to remember that now days there are many more ways to make electricity. Solar panels, wind mills, ect. If I had gotten around to buying one or two solar panels just 3 years ago. I would now be selling extra power back to electric company. (hates self) It can pay off. And if your thinking of arguing about how battery are made it is ALMOST as bad as making gas and it's cheaper and it does not spread toxins around our very homes. :)
@BigChiefLtd1 You forgot to subtrack the amount of gas that won't be consumed on a daily basis by the electric cars. Additionally, more and more people are installing solar panels on their homes and consuming less electricity from the "electric" companies. Some even have a surplus and sell it back. Eventually, there will be more homes with solar panels then without. Eventually you'll see them on cars and as thin film solar matures, you'll see them on sides of buildings and windows.
I so love my bug. 1979,1991,2007(convertable) and 2011 (convertable). Will not buy this one. Just not the same for the person who has always loved the style and sport of a bug
@ssuuppeerrbbooyy Your gasoline car is already coal -powered. It takes 6.5 Kilowatt-hours of electricity to refine your average crude to a gallon of gasoline. Going electric skips the middle man, and avoids the pollution when the gasoline is burned(rather inefficiently & noisily), not to mention, would reduce the national debt. .

Aspirational little car isn't it? But then VW bugs have always aspired to be the leader of the pack and that's a good thing for VW and the Motor Industry. If you can make it 100%recyclable, emit no harmful emissions, cheap to run, fairly priced and cool to look at.... Why wouldn't the world want to buy it?
@blanknot, Photovoltaics, Wind generation, Geo thermal, Electricity is a renewable resource generated in many ways non of which require the use of a finite resource like environmentally polluting fossil fuels. Any more questions?
@blanknot: Your comments really don't even deserve a response, however I would like to set you straight. Obviously you've not had the pleasure of driving an all electric car.
