Some MADs I've seen used some in-anime scenes, so I believe it's just the Japanese term for AMV.

@Omegamegamanzx Nope, I'm pretty sure MAD uses original animation. It's different from AMV. Search "Black Hetalia" or "Brawl Eater" on YouTube. Those are MADs. If you've seen MADs that have only anime scenes, then they've made the same mistake as you ;)

Some MADs use original images/visual novel-like images with effects but some just use edited scenes from the original animation like this one. Even if it's a mistake to use original animation then a lot of people have made the same mistake; even so those MADs are good.
