  • @Caniid Thanks :P

  • @Caniid thanks

  • @Caniid Yes, but we also need to know what we'll need for this course too ;D

  • In knowing all these things about the most basic levels of human emotion. How do u interact with people without constantly know exactly what they really mean when they say something. Like how do you just carry on normal conversation anymore? I feel like I understand what our subconscious mind is really saying at all times, and I can read right through the theater of interaction? It's driving me crazy.

  • Thanks drumpoltergeist, I was getting extremely anxious.

  • oh my god, this was so interesting. I watched without skiping! This is so interesting

  • This is great for people who wants to learn psychology

  • @Twin1O no way man.....

  • 31:40 Is where introduction and info for students end and lecture begins.

  • @dylanlawless1 Vote this comment up guys, wish I had saw it before I watched the first 30 mins, felt like Highschool haha

  • @alexebling Not to mention that it's fantastic for nerdy high school kids like me :D I love that Berkeley and Yale are doing this. I hope more colleges follow suit :)

  • Is there a decent paying career at the end of this tunnel?

  • The only way to understand psychology is through self observations in knowing how we are affected by the influence of ever impression' metaphysics' metaphysics is what anyone feels when they listen to a song and make a connection to the paternal senses;

  • Horray for 16 huh ;D huh Com'on anybody?

  • I want to enroll in psychology in 3 years after I complete secondary school (and granted this include a 1 year break) however are the psychology programs in Germany better than North.America

  • @kristijanadrian

So ignorant and uninformed. Psychiatric and Psychological journals (of high standing) always use an alpha level of .05 to get a significant measure and it's MANDATORY TO SPECIFY IT. It takes a PH.D student at least 4 tries to get published with such an extreme scrutiny. Sounds to me you've only read Freud's shit, or nothing at all.

  • @BinaryEggRoll

    You don't need money.

  • why is he yelling

  • Does anyone know what textbook they used

  • 20 people have mental issues

  • @pentadagumacu Now that's just rude

  • Feels like being in class again. THE HORRER!!!

  • @xXxM0nteNegr0xXx are u a psychologist ? if yes can i ask u qution ? :D

  • I <3 psychology!

  • @NeuroscienceTV are u a psychologist ? if yes can i ask u qution ? :D

  • i have schizophrenia and i want to die!!

  • @ZombieBunny501 Replace that "I want to die" with "I want to mate" it feels way better, and gives meaning to life :)

  • @PaebloLeon Im useless at languages but maybe one day i could learn a language not right now. TY for the tip sorry about my really bad spelling :S

  • YAY this is so useful. I'm only 15 and my school does not do any phycology courses and basicly my famild said im not clever enough to study it at college so im gonna study in my own time (good luck to that) and prove people wrong because i love how the brain works and how people think it interests me

  • @Ducknugget11 Good luck man, you should also learn some other language, it's always useful and it will show your parents that you can do it!

  • @Ducknugget11 - You can definitely do it, starting early is a great start. Find a college curriculum, so that you know what is being studied year 1, year 2 and so on.

Know that you must be good with English classes (Composition included), Communications as well.

It is good that you have the mentality of proving people wrong, so keep that fire burning within you to succeed in this field.

  • @Ducknugget11

study whatever you want in college, no matter how dumb you are (not saying u are, i cant really say that about you when I don't know you) or if your parents want you to take something different. My mom says she took math in college because her parents wanted her too but she wanted to study Etymology.

  • @Ducknugget11 I'm fifteen, too. Good for you! (:

  • @Ducknugget11

Great that you're enthusiastic, but I'd recommend first learning to spell Psychology

  • @Ducknugget11 You spelled Psychology wrong. You parents might have been right.

  • @Ducknugget11 Good for you! I know your comment is like a month old, but I have to say--it's great to hear about young people being so self-motivated and taking the initiative to learn on their own. If you're interested, Yale also has a youtube series on Psychology :)

  • @Ducknugget11

I teach psychology and have been doing so for 25 years. With your level of motivation, you will do so well. Please do not give up-Psychology is life and the more you understand it, the better off you will be. Good luck!

  • @Ducknugget11 no way me to! aha im the odd one out in my group of friends, the only one whos interested in the way this type of stuff. lol glad to know im not alone :}

  • @Ducknugget11 Your family should not be discouraging you when you're actually interested in something. All it takes to learn something is to want to learn and work hard at it - unless it's quantum physics or rocket science - then you need to be really smart too. Psychology isn't that demanding in terms of smarts.

  • @Ducknugget11 It's good to know this. Im currently 17 and i've been interested in psychology since 16. I got so addicted in reading psychology books and any related books. Being motivated will possibly guarantee our success. Keep it up, don't stop learning. The mind the most powerful thing ever created. Right now im reading Blink, by Malcom Gladwell. Pretty basic book of the unconsciouss and snap judgments/decisions we take in life.

  • @Ducknugget11 maybe you should learn how to spell first lol

  • Never clever enough to study at collage? Some of the stupidest people I've ever met in my life are in collage.

  • @ironkatia you spelled "college" wrong...

  • @Ducknugget11 you go girl who knows how many people your post inspired

  • @Ducknugget11 Good luck man, give it all you have, and then some.

  • @Redwanbeatz TY!!!

  • sorry for unrelated question, but anyone know where to get the B/W photograph at the beginning? I found it quite great and want to set it as my wallpaper.

  • @CygnusWing Pause it on your picture and click ctrl, shift, and a key that should say something like Prt Scr at the same time. Then go into paint and paste. It should show up :)

  • I love this lectures they are so informative and the John is one Funny Guy

  • Well, that certainly was boring, even after skipping to 32mins. I wish they'd just jump into some freaky complex subject right away, and deliver it in an interesting manner. Buuut then again, this was the Psych 1, Lecture 1. Stupid boring intro classes, I will never sit through one ever again.

  • hi, I am a psych grad and I vlog about theories in psychology, do check out my channel! :)

  • this is great!!

  • Knowledge, feeling or desire.

  • wtf is this lol; why is there a video dedicated to course breakdown and procedural details... (sorry if thats not the case, but my comment is biased in the sense that i didnt bother wasting 30 min of my life to varify my speculations) Each psychology course is different in structure, even at the SAME university. so all this infor is relativley useless to anyone taking the course, unless its at berkely with the same prof. even then maybe they will get a different one xD

  • It is not so easy job to be an psychologst, and who have a lot of clients may run out fast...

  • What is the basic criteria to be a Psychologist ? Good family back ground ?

  • @johnly83 no! a good family backround is really not necassary! :D

  • @HALTMADIEKLAPPETUSSE wanna bet

  • @birdinthehand2000 no?!?!

  • Why is his hair so brown yet his stache so white?

  • "is there any homework?" lmaoo\

  • psychology should be taught in schools.

  • @Bobdylan1qaz It's taught in my high school to Juniors and Seniors.I'm planning on taking it 2 years from now then going to IB Psychology in my senior year! :D

  • @Bobdylan1qaz it is

  • Im 13, and i understood 90% of this xD

  • @HopeBreakerBVB *golf clap*

  • 32:00 for the real lecture

  • HI GUYS.CAN ANYONE HERE TELL ME A GOOD PSYCHOLOGY BOOK???????PLZ

  • @shahqwer1234 read the great psychologist or something like that by surgeon

  • how powerful is GSI ?? He said GSI many times and gave lots of power and responsiblites!!

  • This is wonderful, I used this for my Homeschooling, I had no idea about Psychology until now! Thank you UCBerkeley

  • woooooooooow, 32 mins of complete irrelvant bullshit, y did noody tell me -.-

for everyone else; pls jump to around 32:00 min

  • @Redwanbeatz ty dude

  • @Redwanbeatz skipped to :32 cuz you wrote...wanted to know some psychology facts,...

  • @Redwanbeatz thnks for the heads up!!

  • Hi. Can anyone tell me whether I can take/download the test exams for this topic (or other UCBerkeley videos' topics) ? Thanks in advance.

  • Always had a love for psychology! Good to have these up

  • You are a great Prof.!

Thank you for sharing this lecture.

  • I love psychology!

  • LOL you can always count on some stupid girl saying "is there any homework?" right at the end of class.......... READ THE FKING SYLLABUS !

  • @jdizzle1337 I bet that instructor got a brain fart just before he said no u can see his face reaction

  • I actually liked watching the first 30mins i like seeing how things are run at a well respected State University vs my local community college. They have a better textbook, with better supporting materials, better professor (lol), info is roughly the same. Lecture and discussion is mixed in all of my CC classes, and i see now why thats not a great idea; a lot of lectures get cut short without information being gone over in detail because we jacked around too much in discussion.

  • @jdizzle1337 Actually, I think discussion is the best part of any class. Pretty much everything else you can obtain by reading books, internet, youtube.

  • @JuanCarlosX007

Discussion is good i think it is better though if the lecture and discussion section are split like in this class. In my classes when you mix the two the learning process from the lecture gets interrupted. In my Psych and Phil classes we have multiple ignorant people that dont even do the reading, that just like to talk and make terrible, weak arguments based on semantics, or dont even address the topic that is being covered.

  • @a1mint

Well I'm glad your not a psychologist. B/c you are an idiot that makes diagnosis on YouTube comments... Hmmm idiot yes... Now that we have pinpointed the problem how does it make you feel.

By the way do a little more research on chemtrails.

  • cool hey the actual Lecture doesn't start till 31 min in!

  • This is giving me insight on psychological concepts while i'm a sophomore in high school and i'm loving it! Can't wait to study it even further.

  • dubstep remix incoming

  • Dubstep remix incoming

  • I use this video to help me fall asleep lol

  • @saldabri123 LOL now thats funny

  • I'm very interested to see how psychologists would deal with delusions.

For some reason, I find myself arguing in videos to no end just about, against people that I feel are delusional. I've tried very hard to convince them that what they believe is incorrect and does not exist.

Things like magnet motors, chemtrailers, homeopaths, perpetual motion advocates, the list goes on and on.

My problem is that I can not ever get anyone to admit to anything and for some reason this irks me.

  • @a1mint

    delusion is very broad

  • @stankennykylecartman Ok, for example. I'm arguing with someone about how chemtrails aren't real. He firmly believes that it is real. Any evidence he presents is shown to be not plausible and false. But he pretends he's right. No matter what information is presented, things are warped and distorted to make things fit inside his mental mindset.

I think he is suffering from a delusional disorder.

Is there any way to get through to people like that?

Do they *have* to be willing?

  • CHEMTRAILS ARE REAL perhaps you are delusional or in DENIAL to the TRUTH

Alex jones is even making a film about chemtrails dont be stupid

  • @heyyouitsme2010

    1) There has not been any credible evidence supporting chemtrails.

    2) The only sources of information has been people that benefit from selling the chemtrail story for their own personal benefits, and people that make assumptions looking at the sky.

    3) Chemtrail supporters have not shown offered any scientifically sound information.

    4) Any opposing explanations are dismissed.

    5) Chemtrailers always agree with other chemtrailers.

    6) Nothing can ever be questioned.

  • @heyyouitsme2010 I would love for a professional in psychology to step in, and help us with this.

  • @stankennykylecartman Looks like a patient just checked in. Down a few messages. "heyyouitsme2010". He claims chemtrails are real. If he is and thinks like all the other chemtrail conspiracy theorists I've argued with, then he is also suffering from a delusional paranoia disorder of sorts.

I would love to see a psychologist assess what type of disorders people like that suffer from. Some sort of delusion for sure. Paranoia. Some of them are flat out crazy.

  • @a1mint Chemical trails are real, seen them on a youtube videos :)

  • @DoNotLaughAtMe No, chemical trails are *NOT* real. Youtube videos don't mean a goddamn fucking thing because any idiot moron can upload videos !

  • @a1mint Incase your wondering, I'm not saying their real and harmful. I'm just curious about them, They are not ice crystal, it's not dense enough, well haven't seen a dense ice crystal trails. Well what are they con trails ?

Well Sigh, I guess I will google more about con trail. i'm not too interested in climatology a lot, but chemistry yes.

brb, and ima see if I will get my mind changed about it.

  • @DoNotLaughAtMe Oops, missed the :) part. The weird thing is that many chemtrailers are serious when they say something like that. It's more of a psychological experiment of what makes a person delusional and how their defense and self protection works. It's similar to religion. No matter what evidence and information is presented, none will ever admit or change their mind on anything. They then think that works the other way around, at which point they think they've dealt with it.

  • @a1mint I never seen it in real life before, just con trails. They are real because it's so fluffy, and it stays in the air for long periods of time. Just don't know what it does....

I became an atheist at age 13 perhaps, when I started questioning religion lol...

I'm 15 now, I'm a top student in my class, Top in Science, and Math. Maybe Social, don't know about L.A.

  • @DoNotLaughAtMe Contrails, like clouds, can persist for a very long period of time. They're ice crystals. Weather condition at height determines what they look like.

I have an excellent video for you to watch. It outlines 10 questions that will help you cope when you see people make claims. You'll be able to determine yourself what is real and what is not. Works every time.

This is jewel of a video !

    watch?v=eUB4j0n2UDU

  • @a1mint Yes I know what is being skeptical is, I just read the video descriptions with the highlights of it. Pretty Straight forward. Rather watching then 10 minutes or so.

Perhaps you should watch this watch?v=Psdg3OAw_a8

  • @DoNotLaughAtMe

You're doing exactly like any chemtrailer does. Dismiss anything that contradicts or challenges the doctrine you subscribe to.

Then you refer to a video that's completely unscientific, and is just fear mongering without any basis or foundation. It shows plain old contrails. Nothing more nothing less.

You will NEVER find any chemtrail case that passes the Baloney Test, because it's all just exactly that, baloney.

  • @a1mint Just notice this 2nd comment. Fear mongering ? Are you judging me ? Were not here to talk emotions. We are here to Talk non biased Science.

"Youtube videos don't mean a goddamn fucking thing because any idiot moron can upload videos !" That skeptic video must be wrong, with many educational videos like BBC, National Geographic, Discovery, Animal planet, Science Channel :/

Where is the alternative explanation of them then? You haven't say anything else, but kepts on saying it's fake.

  • @DoNotLaughAtMe But something else. You're trying to sell a story that's revealing you to be suffering from a delusional mental illness, on a video about psychology.

I would love it if someone in the profession would analyze "DoNotLaughAtMe". Feel free to analyze me as well. Perhaps I'm obsessed with people with delusions and superstition, something about me feeling I can't control them or something. I can take it.

But seriously, these people are delusional !

  • @a1mint Your description doesn't make any sense about them being ice crystals, they are really fluffy coming from planes. I have google images ice crystal in the sky. They seem less dense than the one I saw in that video.

I got my youtube name when I was deeply struggling with life. When I was a theist back then as a kid. didn't understand why god hasn't help me yet.

I love Science :), not too interest in psychology, it's a social science. It's not hard science.

    my favorite site

    zeitnew[dot]org

  • @DoNotLaughAtMe Just apply that Baloney Test and see what stands up and what doesn't.

    Chemtrails doesn't stand up, period.

  • @a1mint did you see them in that video ? It's really thick. If you didn't sigh.... that is being close minded. I'm in IB Science next year for high school. I have a career to be a scientist. I get 90% and above on every tests pretty much.

I find this a bit awkwardish. Never heard of baloney test before. Going to learn it, Oh it's the 10 question thing again.

I'm not convinced at all, where is your explanation ? Perhaps you should give me your sources. not learning to be skeptic.

  • @a1mint Well been doing research lately, or rather just 3 minutes. Chem trails are not real. :)

  • Comment removed

  • @birdinthehand2000 Whoa! Explain that in layman's terms...

  • Comment removed

  • @a1mint Did it provoke a negative or a positive response from you

  • @a1mint

Around the age of 18 and 19 I used to believe these kind of things as well. I was not crazy and I'm 21 now.

Conspiracies make information seem very easy to understand, and it's always easily accessible. Since counterarguments are hard to find there are many counter-counterarguments.

A lot of arguments are false, but when you haven't had any education in rational or empirical thinking it's easy to believe these arguments.

    Very easy.

  • @crimron My theory is that indoctrination and brainwashing is a virus. Also, some brains are wired differently.

The result is that people start to only believe sources of information that they think share their beliefs.

Their beliefs trump any kind of reality. They reject information that challenges or contradicts what they believe.

In years of arguing, people that argue their believes, I have not once seen anyone change their minds about anything no matter how obvious the information presented

  • @a1mint ...someones dealing with a superiority complex

  • @22tus Who, me? How so?

  • I think by motivational explanation he should have included sensory memory recall or something similar because when he says motivation and then tries to define it he just gives you a small list of synonyms and doesnt elaborate on the concept but i guess in later lectures he will try to but motivation seems to me like a PRIMAL EMOTION were tasty foods were remembered and prickley painful plants were remembered and really MOTIVATION SEEMS LIKE A PRIMAL FUNCTION OF THE FIGHT OR FLIGHT RESPONSE

  • i love the student at the end. "any homework?" . he would have said there was sweetheart

  • What is that Textbook called? Thanks

  • @RumIslandoftheP psychology (7th edition) Glietman
