  • When i was a kid my dad had a 1957 Ford fairlane 500 4 door used to ride around and listen to earl scruggs

  • what album is this off?

  • GOOD OLE LESTER & ERNEST !

  • Dixie or Dead

  • nobody tops Earl -- still pickin' at 88!

  • Drive, tone, timing, syncopation....... Earl had it all. There are a lot of good banjo players and a few great ones out there - but none ever could quite match what Earl did in those early days!

  • This right here is what is MISSING from today's banjo players. Nobody can make the banjo the BANJO, or drive it like Earl did in those early recordings. This one here and the other early one's Earl did like Salty Dog Blues and Foggy Mountain Breakdown are also my all-time favorites. You can tell the early frailing infulence and the power here in the right and left hand technique, Anyone who doesn't think this is GOOD is not listening close enough or is just plain stupid. EARL WINS THE PRIZE!

  • I heard this for the first time when my mate Alan picked it and it blew me away too, so now everytime we have a jam I ask him to do it coz it's sooooooo much fun! Flatt & Scruggs were just the best.

  • The first time Earl played this on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry it STOPPED THE SHOW!! Truly one of the great banjo tunes of all time.

  • Ebeneezerable... As sweet as it gets, but who is Mr. Wales? If he would agree, he'd be hearing it right.

  • @clyderf As in "The Outlaw Josie . . ."

  • This poster did the best job I have encountered in bringing forth the full potential of the sound quality available on these early 50's Columbia recordings. Columbia had about the best audio at this time, and this recording is obviously one of their prize jewels. In my previous post here I referred to "primitive recording technology" only with reference to today's technical advances. Still, musical superiority far outshines any technological edge.

  • Pickinbuddy...I'm with you on that in spades, except that the word I would use is unequaled rather than unsurpassed. This early 50's era of Lester and Earl's work represents the artistic pinnacle for the best ever Bluegrass band. Just listen to Earls tone, rhythm, drive, clarity and separation of notes coming through even with the more primitive recording technology of that time.

  • @clyderf Sure is a sweet sound to the ears, wouldn't you say so Mr. Wales?

  • This is the ringtone for my cell phone

  • Wow! This is one of Earl's greatest. Flatt & Scruggs are still unsurpassed!

  • Picking out my favorite Earl Scruggs instrumental is like trying to decide which Playboy Playmate you'd like to take home with you. But this right here is it. The whole thing's played up the neck with breathtaking speed and flawless execution. Earl at his best.

  • i love flatt and scruggs, they have to be the two greatest legends in bluegrass history!

  • "Put's Banjo back in case"

  • @bigmrclean *douses banjo case in kerosene and lights match*

  • @crosswalkstudios I know the feeling when I listen to this...I clawhammer a little but I'm not worthy of this kind of playing :)
