Look for a clip on YouTube of Johnny's old ABC game show, "Music Bingo," of which I was a huge fan. Johnny is a terrific singer. After "Music Bingo" was cancelled, "The Price is Right" moved to ABC and Johnny replaced Don Pardo as the announcer, just as he later did with the syndicated "Jeopardy!". Mmmmnnn...I wonder if we might one day hearing Johnny say, "It's Saturday Night Live!"
I could easily imagine him being the announcer for MUGEN-like fighting game that had every video game, anime, and TV show character, as well as quite a bit of originally created characters too.

That's an awesomely funny deadpan at 1:19. Johnny rocks indeed.
Though when they cut to him, I was puzzled as to why he has a full headset. Headphones I can totally understand, but he's got a big mic right in front of him he can use to communicate with the production staff.
Most likely so they don't have to keep changing the levels on the mic. He would need to speak sotto voce to speak with the staff -- it's probably less hassle that way.
I think he's announced not only Jeopardy, but Chain Reaction and The $25,000/$100,000 Pyramid as well. Think he subsitute announced for a few other shows as well.
He subbed for Charlie O'Donnell on a couple of episodes on "Wheel of Fortune" in 1996. Besides Wheel, he subbed for O'Donnell on "The Joker's Wild" a few times.
Hmm, I thought it was Gilbert. From what I've heard, on the CBS version, the only announcers there were Jacobs and Gilbert. On the syndie version, there was Stewart, Gilbert, and Charlie O' Donnell.
Acutally he did succeed Johnny Jacobs during TJW's CBS run. Jay Stewart announced on the syndicated version from 1977 until Charlie O'Donnell replaced him in 1981, and remained until TJW's end in 1986.
Actually, Gilbert only subbed for Jacobs during "The Joker's Wild's" CBS run. Jacobs announced for whole run of TJW on CBS, being replaced by Jay Stewart when the show entered syndication.
There is a more recent episode of Jeopardy! that has clues with Johnny Gilbert doing rap, and as Alex did on the episode in the video here, he made light of the Shakespeare clues that Johnny did previously.
I knew Johnny Gilbert announced "Go" with Kevin O'Connell, but I didn't know he announced the Bill Cullen version of Chain Reaction. I wasn't even familiar with Music Bingo and Fast Draw.
He also hosted "Beat the Odds," and he's announced more shows than I can count, including The Price is Right (I'm not confusing him with Johhny Olson, I'm talking about the original in the 60s) and The $25,000 Pyramid.

Here's something amazing! My cousin Lindsay's favorite part is when Alex says "Notice the (whatever) in quotation marks."

I can't believe they awarded her the points at 1:39, you definitely can't get away with that on jeopardy! now!

I guess Johnny picked the right career since his music career wasn't going anywhere, although not too long ago he did record a Christmas album.

I remember his hosting Music Bingo back in the 1950's.
He was also the announcer for an early 1960's game show called Yours for a Song, hosted by Bertrand Jacobson, better known as Bert Parks.
Juliaflo 3 years ago
@animfan1 - He also did some Pyramid episodes back in the 1980s. He's been around for a long long time.
