  • this made me cry. thank you so much for sharing your story with us!!!

  • wow! :)

  • What a handsome young lad you were. I just discovered you today and I'm having so much fun watching your videos. You have such an amazing spirit about you. You are a joy to listen to. Thank you for sharing your life with us youtubers. Much love to you.

  • A very moving story. Thank you for sharing your life with us.

  • Hi Peter, That was a very moving story and I had tears in my eyes again! I love listening to you and I'm now moving onto vid. 23! Take Care my friend, Nnek@ ;o) xxx

  • Ah Grandpa, wish I was there to give you a hug. What memories. Emotional times for sure. Your parents loved you so much, to part with you like that, thinking of your welfare.

  • A very handsome young man I must say. Thanks for sharing:)

  • What a beautiful recollection!

  • Not sure if you will read this because its an old vid now, but anyway Im watching all your vids because I only just discoverd u. Very good stuff, keep them coming.

  • Excellent video, and it also makes me think of the poor Iraqi people which we are bombing to this day. Arguably, what they have to endure is much worse than anything Britain withstood in both world wars combined.

  • An excellent video indeed. If you are truely interested in history, may I suggest Wm Shrier's "The Rise & Fall of the 3rd Reich" and Martin Gilberts' "The First World War". A clearer vision of past helps with the present. Both works are very well written and classics. Well, arguably.

  • I've previously read Shriers work, but will certainly investigate Gilberts as you suggested. Thank you. May I suggest you consider the fact that depleted uranium was not implemented in either of the World Wars but has been deployed liberally throughout Iraq, the effects of which will be shouldered for generations to come. As a result, life expectancy has plummeted and horrendous birth defects have almost become the norm throughout all exposed regions.

  • yeah, that sure is arguable

  • Compelling x

  • brilliant video ! my great grandad was in ww1 and ww2 as well , you hardly look a day over 70 :D

    nice video

  • Beautiful, simply beautiful. In the midst of terror a tender display of love that meant so much that it burned an ever lasting memory into your heart and mind. Thank you for sahring this with me.

  • What a story about your Dad at the train station. The detail of the pigeons was very moving, and the fact that you remembered the smell of your Dad's jacket.

Thank you for this important work you are doing, in all of these videos.

  • A Junkers 87 to be precise

  • you were a good lookin lad werent ya :) ...not much changed, hope I look as good as you when (if) i reach 79!

People talking about their relationships with their father is always something I missed out on, I never knew my dad, he walked out on me and my mother before I was born - that's why I'm making damn sure I'm there for my son as much as is possible (getting more difficult as his mother is planning on moving with him to sheffield)

    keep up the vids :D

    Matt

  • Great video as always Peter! Still as happy as ever to see you posting more and more videos. Again, can't thank you enough. Take care!

  • GOD BLESS BROTHER

  • It was a beautiful song from the last one, but please "keep they religion to thyself" George Carlin :)

  • thanks!

  • thanks for sharing your story - it was really touching. You were so, so brave.

and you were really handsome when you were younger!

  • Beautiful! I recently left my Dad to move across the county (USA). I miss him very much. Thank you for sharing your story!

  • Videos like this remind me of Stud's Terkel type journalism. Peter, you have lived an interesting life. I think that the internet hold a lot of potential for recording personal accounts and histories. I wish there were more like you on Youtube.

  • Thanks for taking the time. I'm still listening even though I haven't posted to say so for a while....

    .

  • thank you - you are the most incredible storyteller. I hope someone is collecting these. Your ability to capture your time in the war and the relationship with your father is beautiful. You help to understand something about war that most books never really capture.

  • great video peter-i am just now catching up you ARE an icon!

    cheers,

    randy

    <:+)

  • My computer crashed, now up and running agin, your videos were one of the first places I've gone to see what I may have missed. Thank you for this story ....looking forward to more. We love you in

  • Hi Peter

thanks a lot for you emotions and stories.

  • I love, love, love you taking us back in time with you. Your story here touched my heart. I enjoy the photos you share and the music you choose. Thank you so much for sharing...

  • all hail geriatric1927 :-)

  • Thanks so much for the stories. My father was an American soldier in WWII and he never talked about it. I think he saw too much. Thanks again.

  • Peter, I just put another video up 'The Art of Renoir':

    http://www.youtube(DOT)com/watch?v=RKaTQXLHBwk

Maybe you will show us your paintings sometime?

  • *hug* Such a poignant story that was so well told about your father. :)

  • great touching story peter. sometime I wish I could actually talk to you...

  • Your story reminded me of the time I was put on a train at the age of 12 to visit a great aunt....thanks for the interesting stories.

  • Reply to PARISHILTONVIDEOSshut up you ignorant git have a bit of respect.

  • Well if you tell us where you live I would be more than happy to kick your head in, you little tosser, leave him alone and get on with your shitty little life.

  • California "ditto"

    "cat"

  • Dear Peter, another wonderful story. I wanted to ask about your brother, whom you mentioned once in one of your videos, but have never mentioned again. Just curious. Love from Ohio

  • Such a handsome boy at 15, I imagine you were a heartbreaker at 20. Do tell of some of your escapades with the ladies!

Your description of your father hugging you for the first time was beautifully touching and the obvious emotion in your voice over an event 60+ yrs ago had me a little choked up too. You are a wonderful orator and I never tire of your stories. Love from Texas.

  • Thank you, that was a touching story. You tell it with such vivid detail I could almost see and hear the places and events.

  • Dude i must say look a fine and handsome chap in tho's pics & i bet you have a few more stories of the troubles you're debonaire looks got you into with the ladies.love the stories peter

  • Hello Peter. I am still listening.

  • Thank you. I so very much look forward to spendng time with you, and you never fail to be a wonderful companion.

  • Hi Peter,

Another excellent video and a wonderful story,

    Best Regards,

    Drew

  • Well done for being put in the Sun newspaper!

  • A Great use of technology, bring history to youth couture and bridging the generation gap!

  • as always, the best thing on youtube.

  • Excellent story. It's amazing how many of those moments we re-live as we remember and tell those stories again.

  • i like ur voice =)

  • What an honor it has been to share with you the trials and tribulations of your life story it renminds me so much of the occasions i get to speak to my 89yr old grampy who has me captvated by his stories.

  • No Lmao, it's supposed to be "He is 15, I don't think he will want to be hugged"...

Just keep practicing! Your English will improve!

  • My son is 15 now too. I can only imagine Peter.

My father never hugged me ever. I hug my son all the time. When he gets home from school today, you can guess, he's getting a hug.

Thank you so much for this Peter!

You have an important part in peoples lives all overthe globe my friend.

  • i loved this!...you were a handsom young fellow

  • why the headphones? old fashioned- they look like something from wartime.

  • first class yet again sir 5 stars from me

  • Wow.. I don't usually watch videos over 5 minutes, but this video had me interested the whole way through.

Looking forward to watching your other videos!

    You are AWESOME! :)

  • Power to the U.K!!!

  • I'm new to this whole youtube thing, and just now started watching these... Hard to imagine that watching an old gaffer sit and tell stories could be so riveting, but I'm absolutely hooked. I'm very impressed, and enjoy your stories deeply. Thanks!

  • You are wonderful. God bless you.

  • Awe...I got choked up at the part that you did remembering your father hugging you for the first time. It is obvious that it meant the world to you. I hope he gave you many more hugs after that. Just curious though, about your ending notes, it seems that you wanted to make it clear that the words of the song held no significance to you, and I was wondering why you wanted it to be known?

  • You're an excellent story teller... can't say I've seen all your videos but thanks for sharing your rich personal history so eloquently.. I'm new to youtube but I can see you've inspired others to share their individual life stories as well.. thanks for pioneering this venue.

  • I really wonder how our children would fair today without cell phones and the like. Your story illustrates how tough it was for many children to travel and stay with friends and relatives un-announced. How parents must have worried about their children and vice-versa!

  • Peter,

I have, a few days ago, stumbled upon one of your videos and decided to take a look at it. I found it interesting. Today, (while home - sick from work) I decided to check out all of your clips. I'd like to say thank you for posting your blog here on youtube. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! Keep them coming.

  • HEY GRAMPS

  • geriatric is a director, woot!

  • I love hearing storys about WW2.

    Thanks for the knowledge man.

    Takecare

  • Thank you for your presence on the internet. There aren't enough people like you around here (as I'm sure you can tell). All the same, thanks. It's a fine reality check.

  • i love watching your videos..so interesting to hear these stories

  • ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ...Did you kill any krauts.

  • He was 15 years old. This isn't a movie, dumbass.

  • did you?

  • THANK YOU SIR PETER :)

  • England Won the War! GOD SAVE THE QUEEN. Proud to be English. For Queen and country.

  • It would be nice to hear about his family history too.. what sort of lives they lived.

  • It's just like sitting talking to Dad. I have decided to buy a camera and interview him. I was brought up with it and remember the bomb craters here in Gosport when I grew up in the 60s so it's all too familliar to me. Mum lived in Portsmouth near the dockyard, so you can imagine the stories I grew up with; fascinating. There are youngsters who will be better people for hearing ur stories. If u only achieve one kid giving up their seat to someone on a but u have won!

    Ray Bessant

  • How much you selling that weed for old man?

  • How much you been smoking, imbecile?

  • Not enough thats why I'm asking how much he's selling for, settle down you old man nuthugger..

  • the people in norway got your back:)

  • Dearest Peter, thisis very, very moving!!! Thank you for sharing these touching memories with us!! And thanks for the photographs of this young and very handsome man!! And thank you as well for this wonderful music, I would like to hera some more of it!! TAke care, dear friend, lots of love from Germany XXXXXXX

  • nice job again geriatric1927 it was touching I love your stories :D

  • Another wonderful video - thanks for sharing your memories...

  • Is there any way you could do something to make the videos a little bit more interesting? Like maybe not speak in a monotone voice for 11 minutes?

  • If you don't like his style, don't watch, and don't comment.

    Nobody appreciates your negativity.

  • Well I don't appreciate being bored to death by Ol' Wrinkle Feet. I think he has alzheimers; he just keeps repeating the same WW2 story over and over again.

  • Granddaddy, I love you. Holly in Texas

  • Very good

  • Oh Peter, this story made my heart squeeze. I am so sorry for all over have been through. You are so lovely and adored by many people. I can't wait for the next one.

  • you bloody poser! excellent as always, and great music at the end.

  • Wow, that's touching.

  • What a handsome young man! hasn't changed much at all :D

  • That memory of your father is really amazing. In such frightening times during the war, one moment like that must mean the world. Best wishes mate!

  • Handsome pictures, Peter! I think that was the best story-telling so far. Keep up the good work!

  • Thank you, Peter, for an intense look into that time. I guess lots of children were sent to the country... and it must have been hard to be away from your parents. Thanks again.

  • Wow - kudos to your parents & aunt! I think they sent you away (most UK parents sent kids to the country) to try and keep you safe. I think it's one of the hardest choices the parents of the day had to make - sending their kids away because they loved them so much. A Hard choice - one I'm glad i won't have to make. Thanks for the pics, and the stories. If it helps, they did a good job raisin' ya up. *hugs* ~Rose

  • As usual, another wonderful video. Thank you for sharing your life and photos. My children (all under the age of 10)love "grandpa's" videos. You have become a living history lesson for them. Keep up the good work.

  • you really have not changed much since you were 15, just a little older. keep well

  • you never cease to amaze me. thank you so much for sharing your world with us.

  • Lol.. interesting photos of you, Peter.

  • good one gramps

  • Perhaps the Junkers STUKA just flew over to view the damage caused earlier.. must have been scary though.. Luckily the RAF were able to shoot them down in droves..

  • quite moving i must say

  • good STORY well told

  • You where a cool looking young man Peter. Great video.

  • Wondeful video Peter!

  • That was a wonderfully moving story, tears were welling in my eyes :o(

  • It could be that people dont watch the whole vid.. so it doesnt count the views?? im 16 and I love ur work :)

  • A story beautifully told, thank you so much for sharing it Peter.

  • Beautiful narration. That description of the way your father smelled when you hugged really struck a chord with me, maybe because my dad wears a pocketwatch too. Please keep the stories coming!

  • great!!!!

  • i think somebody is spamming the ratings... great video

  • You must be right about the ratings. Peter, the videos arse getting more and more fascinating and I like how you did an overview of your life and now you are really adding the layered details to it. And I like how you keep changing the camera angles. Thank you again.

  • Another very moving story Peter, very well spoken, I can picture in my head what it must have all been like back then but cant possibly begin to imagine what it must have been like to actually be around during those times.

  • Wow. This is special, what you're doing, I think. I was very moved, again.

  • Peter, they oughta have YouTube Emmys or something, that made me cry!

  • what a handsome man you are/were =)

  • Handsome dude!

  • thank you, pops. I hope i'm half as beloved as you when (moreso if) i reach that age. Were this the middle ages, you'd be christened a saint.

  • A beautiful story peter. The reminicing about your father brought back warm feelings of the first time that my father and I had a bonding moment Thank you Sir. Take Care,

    Eric

  • This one is a like a poem. A father's hug to a grown son leaving, the smell of the father's jacket, the father walking away alone in a station. The machine gun sound a flock of pidgeon make when they take flight. Peter, I think you are actually getting better, and you were already the best.

  • Good job, mate.

    "cat"

  • Peter - You practically brought tears to my eyes, just like when you were on your way on he train. I too had a father without many hugs, and finally we learned how - before he died. What a great history you are recording. I hope that you have family that will keep it for generations.

    Peter

P.S. you were a pretty sharp dude at 15!

  • Peter~

This is by far my favorite video of yours!

Beautiful story, great integration of pictures and storytelling, and lovely music. You were quite a handsome young man (still are, of course!) I'm interested to know how your late teens/early 20s were like.

  • I think someone is messing with the ratings. Another good video Peter

  • Thank you for sharing such a tender memory. I feel so very honored. Yes sirree - you are a cutie! I come home from work- give my husband a quick kiss - then run to the computer to see your latest. Do you think he thinks somethings up? Always xoxoxoxo

  • Wow, you are so amazing. Sometimes you get me speechless lol. I can't imagine having to leave my family and home. And your father's love-what a special gift, that love glows inside of you. I'm sure that was a very profound and life changing moment and you told it beautifully. I bet you drove all the women crazy back then and yes you still do lol. Beautiful music also.

  • Fantastic story, beautifully told! Thanks again, Peter! OH, yes, the music is wonderful as well!

  • Very moving, sir. The feelings of some experiences never seem to leave us, but not everyone has the courage to share them with the world. As always, thank you.

  • great vid peter. thanks for sharing your moving story with us.

  • the ratings got spammed. You rock dude.

  • i agree, ratings definitely spammed

  • Wonderful video! Cant wait until the next one!! :)

    Love,

    Shlie

  • dont worry about the rating. just some people exploiting the system. they really have no life if they have nothing better to do than try to sink a blog.

  • Dear Peter-another great one...how long were away at your aunts?? What a dashing young fellow :)

    TTFN, Liz in CA

  • What a wonderful video Peter. It doesn't surprise me seeing you being moved by your fathers hug - it just touches my heart. You were quite a looker then and you're still a handsome man. Fondly from Colorado

  • Whats up with the quality of the video these days?

    very slow.

  • great vid Peter keep it up, thanks

    Maria

  • you looked older than 15 in that suit, peter.

  • Peter - that was a wonderful heartfelt, open and moving piece... I was humbled by it.

  • Great vid.. Think you tube is screwed..

    1620 ratings but only Views: 842 ????

  • how is it that this has been rated 1618 times but there have been only 814 views. there is mischief about

  • My grandad is always fond of telling how he recieved evacuees during the war who didnt know milk came from cows.

  • A right good looking lad you were back then my friend :). I look forward to your videos so much. Thank you for being you!

    ~Morgan

  • I love watching your videos, you're such an inspiration.

  • 65 years later and you still choke up at the memory of your Dad hugging you. It's amazing how sometimes the smallest of things can end up meaning so very much.

  • Peter, you're absolutely amazing!

I can't believe someone so pathetic would Cookie Monster spam you with low amount of stars! Don't take it as a message to slow down, it's an evil act of sad, lonely person, with no life. Trust me, you've got quite the loyal following, but with popularity, a few bad apples pop out of the tree of life as well!

    With love~

    yumi

  • Peter, another great video. You're amazing. :)

  • You looked very mature for a fifteen year old in those pictures. You looked more like seventeen or eighteen.

  • thank you peter liked the religeous disclaimer too, loved the pics

  • Peter...

I appreciate you taking the time to pick your brains for memories of a trying time. And you looked like a pretty grown-up 15 -- all the more difficult to deal with the times perhaps... while still emotionally a child.

    Regards,

    Bob

  • Thank you. Glad to see you are a Director!

  • For some reason, I am reminded of "Sweet Dreams of You" by Patsy Cline.

    Sweet dreams of you

    Every night I go through

Why can't I forget you and start my life anew

Instead of having sweet dreams about you

  • Very good Peter. You get better each time. While I am lucky enough to come from an affectionate family and hugs were the norm, certain special moments with my father stand out and I can remember in detail the smells, sounds, and sights of each moment. Touching to see you get choked up..nice job Peter.

  • Grampa Tube was a cute!So Peter the vids are great and an inspiration.I work in a community where there are lots of tensions between the older and younger members. Since watching your video I have joined up with the local youth clubs and am getting together a group of 'trouble' teenagers to produce and direct some videos of the older people on the estate about their history and experience. Hopefully a better understanding of each other will prevail,so thanks for the inspiration and all the best

  • Inspiration = Inspiration

  • Well told, Peter.

  • Uh oh. Looks like a cookie monster spammed his ratings. Come on people, let's try and fix it! (Called Cookie Monster because they delete a cookie and reload to re-rate). Such an obnoxious and pathetic act. Keep up the good work, Peter! Ignore the rating. We love you and your stories!

  • Peter, I can't tell you enough how I love hearing these stories. I think this one could have connected with a lot of us for any number of reasons... Love the blues selections myself so maybe that's why those are some of my favorites from you.

  • Great story Peter!

  • Winderful.

  • I just remembered one thing i wanted to say, about the enemy plane flying above the street you were in, that was very interesting to me! and the FiureMan shouting etc, life was so different then, and, i find that amazing and interesting, when thinking that it was actually REAL and not just made up stories :) :P thanks Peter, and, Goodbye :).

  • Aaww how i love families and stuff like that how your Aunt put you up etc :P I also wanted to comment on some other things but i can't remember now what they were :) This was a good video i quite liked it. So, how long did you stay at your Aunt's for then?

Ahh yes, i'd like to hear some stories of when you found things.

  • My mother (in Scotland) spent the early part of the war at her boarding school (Esdaile) which was vacuated to Ayton Castle. She has told me so many stories of those days... Mornings so cold that she had to crack the ice in the bowl of water for washing in, the mock air skirmish which turned out to be a REAL skirmish, as they discovered when one of the planes turned and they could see the swastika...

  • and the awful, awful food. She eventually signed up with the Women's Territorial Army and drove trucks.

  • I'm 44 yrs old and my dad still hasn't hugged me. Maybe if I moved out of the house...

    Another 5 star story pete.

  • ha ha. you're failing to launch. :-)

  • Great as always Granpa Peter. Just out of curiosity you do know that you have your Directorship you can make your videos as long as you like right? Just a idea Grandpa Peter You could have your favs playing in the background like Mood Music. Like a having conversation on a elevator know what I mean? If you do have a chance to reply to me I would be tickled. And Karldaly81 last video is Hilarious. stihlman37

  • Interesting idea. But for those of us with hearing problems, I'd like to point out that overdubbing sometimes makes it extremely difficult to understand the speaking voice. I happen to like Peter's voice just on it's own. It's a treat to hear someone speak well. Many newer movies and shows are impossible to understand because of the unbalanced sound editing and the loud music dubbed over exaggerated dialect or slang.

  • I agree, Copper. Peter is sometimes soft spoken and I'd hate to miss a word.

  • Thank you I had not thought about that. I did say though just very softly in the background? I agree though don't want to change GrandpaPeters Style.

  • Thanks again for sharing. I find it particuliarly touching because I am not able to communicate with my grand-father and your stories in some way reflect what he must have lived in those times. I love your videos and the music.

  • I found you 2 days ago by surfing around YouTube and watched all your videos in sucession. Today is the first brand new one I've seen :) As good as ever, I look forward to the next one. Take care sir, see you soon.
