These are two extremes. Where is the silent majority here? We need to adress a variety of gender issues in society. Violence against women is a serious issue. But so is the underperformance of men in an educational system which favours women. We need to address the underrepresentation of women in senior management, But we also need to address the overall higher unemployment of men in general. It seems that fringe groups on both sides are doing nothing to address real problems.

I believe in women's rights and I believe that the idea of gender roles is a product of society. I don't think the way to get people to come around to the feminist ideal is to say 'fuck you' to people that really aren't really impeding the freedom and equality of women.

Islam doesn't really oppress women. It protects them. A man isn't allowed to even see the face of the woman he's meant to marry until he proves he can provide for her and protect her. This provides a financial safety net for all women, not just the beautiful ones.
True, there are some radical sects (such as the Taliban) that treat women terribly, but on the whole, Islam itself is not to blame. Blame the extremists.
When you say "Islam protects women" you must first identify which interpretation or sect of Islam you're referring to.
The Qu'ran can be read in a myriad of ways, and has been for years. One district's following or understanding of Islam regarding the treatment of women, might be largely different to others. Men in fundamentalist countries have interpreted the Qu'ran to facilitate THEIR roles as statutes of authority in the running of the country and in the household.

These are two extremes. Where is the silent majority here? We need to adress a variety of gender issues in society. Violence against women is a serious issue. But so is the underperformance of men in an educational system which favours women. We need to address the underrepresentation of women in senior management, But we also need to address the overall higher unemployment of men in general. It seems that fringe groups on both sides are doing nothing to address real problems.

Islam doesn't really oppress women. It protects them. A man isn't allowed to even see the face of the woman he's meant to marry until he proves he can provide for her and protect her. This provides a financial safety net for all women, not just the beautiful ones.
True, there are some radical sects (such as the Taliban) that treat women terribly, but on the whole, Islam itself is not to blame. Blame the extremists.
And no, I am not a Muslim.

When you say "Islam protects women" you must first identify which interpretation or sect of Islam you're referring to.
The Qu'ran can be read in a myriad of ways, and has been for years. One district's following or understanding of Islam regarding the treatment of women, might be largely different to others. Men in fundamentalist countries have interpreted the Qu'ran to facilitate THEIR roles as statutes of authority in the running of the country and in the household.

Its not even a legitimate issue. For those who think I'm comparing feminism to neo nazis, I'm really not. Feminism is arguably a lot worse. Atleast neo nazis are publicly called out, and kept on social fringes. Feminism however has managed to convince people it is some kind of noble cause.

Some really insightful points in this video. Well argued. I believe that at the heart of feminism today lies a black and insipid core of self-seeking, arrogant and purile cossetted female brats. They have had their day in the sun, they have had their time when they could smugly condemn, discriminate and hate without fear of counter-argument or public rebuke. Their day is finished. Rights are granted to you by the government and the laws of the land.

i only watched the first minute and a half, but! there are plenty of problems in the world regarding women's issues. perhaps the "friday feminist fuck you" is focusing on more american, or pop culture issues. I agree there are more extreme things happening, but i think that different things need to be addressed. there are different kinds of feminism...and maybe the feminists you're refering to are not focusing on the injustices of islam.
