@Auggie56 Your talking about things you have no idea about it seems. The P3 design is old but it is the most proven patrol air frame ever produced. The P8 cannot adequately fly at low altitude with the fuel economy necessary to make it effective. Not to mention Boeing's inability to figure out how to launch sonobouys from it, which is what sub based warfare is centered around. The P3 should have been reproduced as Lockheeds new design in the P4. But boeing got the contract due to politics.

@JMSmith856 Yeah, all good qualities for a patrol plane, but I said airline, the airplane was rejected for vibration by the airline. This P3 has the same power plant that the C130 has. I'm not sure if the P3 ever used the original power plant, passenger model was built with.

The P 8 will play a HUGE part in our nations defense in the years to come. This is One Bad Ass acft. Boeing has a significant ammnt of info available on this bird on its website.

The P 8 will be amazing in a few years as they enter service in numbers and refinements are made.

@Auggie56 as far as the air frame being rejected? the lockheed electra is STILL flown by other countries as a passenger/cargo plane. And the US uses it in multiple support roles (not just the navy, multiple sections of the government) from fighting forest fires to flying it through hurricane Irene that recently went up the east coast. Do some research please.

The Poseidon doesn't have MAD either, it uses new technology sensors to detect hydrocarbon emmissions, along with the old standby sonar buoys, and surface search radars. This aircraft is state of the art new, not a 40 year old designed aircraft with 20 year old designed systems.... Compare your PC today to a PC 20 years ago....

Interestingly enough it only showed forward radar only on the video ? How are you supposed to hunt submarines with a radar that doesn't do 360 degrees ?

they only showed radar readings, you track a submarine with the SONAR in the sonobouys it drops which track everything in all directions
