basically the Toyota MR2 gives any person the chance to own a technically exotic sportscar (concept: mid engine+rear wheel drive) for little money. how many other "mid engined rwd" cars are out there for little money?
there´s the pontiac fiero (zero quality, zero downforce, neither power steering nor ABS... BUT A/C! ridiculous piece of crap).
the only other halfways modern mid engined rwd car that´s "in the range of possible" is the Nissan NSX which costs like 30.000+
@HEMIH3AD Nissan NSX? You mean Acura NSX which goes for alot more than $30,000. That car was $90,000 brand new so its probably in the $60,000 range now.
Ferrari-like performance? Rubbish. You could drive an MR2 for 10,000 miles and it probably wouldn't break down / overheat / need its cambelt changed / drop bits off..... AND my old Mk1 MR2 would do 50mpg on a long run, if I asked it to.
I just started my 91 MR2 NA the other day, because it's winter where I'm from, and took it for a VERY slow stroll down the road and back just to get the gearbox oil warm. It sucks to have to pack a car you love away for the winter. You spend all winter wanting to drive it. I can't wait for another month or so to go by, because then I can pack away the everday driver more or less, and drive my baby again. MR2's, Supras, AE86s, and Celica All trac's are all icons of Toyota motor history.
HAHA!!! "Engine noise can be a bit wearing" - They haven't heard my MR2 GTi 3SGE with DE-CAT, BLUEFLAME EXHAUST, and K&N CONE FILTER! It sounds AWESOME!!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The MR2 has always been a hairdressers car, but the only reason a 4WD celica exists is because they had to produce them in order to go rallying, a racing pedigree indeed. MR2 is seriously gay, and i am not lying, look at most people in an MR2 they are either chavvy boy racers or middle age fags with pink shirts
@MegaMrDamo Sure the Mr2 doesn't have the racing heritage of the celica. But there is no reason to bag on it so badly for no apparent reason. What did the mr2 ever do to you?? It's a seriously fast and fun car to drive with monster mid engine grip and handling dynamics, sexy (albeit a bit Ferrari-ish) styling, All rolled into a very reliable and efficient package. Although a lot of ignorant pricks also called the Mx5 a "hairdressers/fags car" so, oh well.
@MegaMrDamo - Have you ever seen a hair stylist who drives a mk2 MR2? I don't understand the reference. Or did you just hear someone else say it once, and now you're repeating the sentiment yourself? I think you're confused and you mean the Mk3 MR2 for which the 'hairdresser' comment has been made.
You can get used NSX's for 30k. not worth it imo. Most overratted/priced car ever built.

Such a shame toyota seem to have lost all interest in sports cars.
No longer an MR2, no celica, and no supra either.
But plenty of picup trucks and bland and stodgy hatchbacks. How depressing! :-(

Someone explain to me why the cons listed for the mr2 are actually bad things. :)
DDRGURU56 6 months ago
@DDRGURU56 Try stopping in an emergency in the wet in the MR2 with no ABS and you would soon know why thats a bad thing!
No cat is worse for the environment. Last one is subjective depending on what you are intending to use it for.
soundseeker63 5 months ago
@soundseeker63 You took me too literally. lol
DDRGURU56 5 months ago
@soundseeker63 If you can't perform an emergency stop in the wet without the aid of ABS then you should not be driving
escortpwr05 3 weeks ago
@escortpwr05 Well that writes off about 90% of people on the road then.
I can thanks to self practice. But is it taught by most instructor or in the driving test?
Nope.
