Holy shit instant fire! Have you ever notticed that the most genial stuff is right in front of you, but you just don't see it until someone else does?
Make lens you can roll up and a circular frame you can take apart and put back together (same size as lens). It would be perfect for camping: just reassemble frame, fix the lens in and you can make a fire/heat food as long as there's direct sunlight.
When are you going to set some of these up with a solar tracking system and start producing some real usable systems using these high temp solar units?
Can you please explain the pros and cons of a flexible one versus a rigid one including their possible uses? Keep up the good work you 'mad' scientist!
I remember you saying you wanted to make these yourself, would love to know the process you use! I assume you're patenting the heck out of it if it's your own original process, of course. :D
Dan, besides burning things this would be AWESOME for people who have vision problems. I sure wish I had one when I was reading my science text book back in school. This would be awesome on a magnifying light for doing delicate work.
Ok so what material are they made of? Will they hold up to prolonged sun exposure? Realistically how larce can you make them? Could they be used in a batch water heater to produce steam for power generation? What do they cost to DIY?
That is a very cool material that you've made. What I'm wondering is how expensive it is to produce one of those things. Is it realistic to mass produce these over regular Fresnel lenses?
@scotsmanlerxt I am still figuring pricing. Since we make them here there are a few that have some imperfections but they work just as good for solar. There will be mint for display, optical applications and solar + some of the not so perfect for solar only which will be less $
JUST BUY ONE FRESNELL LENS, COPY THROUGH TRANSPARENT EPOXY AND CREAT AS A CASTING MOLD , IT WILL WORK JUST LIKE CONVEX LENS , WHEN AGAIN PUT CAST ACRYLIC LIQUED THEN CANVEX FRESNAL LENS CREATED IN ACRYLIC/PU/PVC/EPOXY RESIN,
It's a contact lens for King Kong. :-)

Hey Dan. That is awesome!
Can you give us any information on how you make these lenses? Will you offer different sizes and shapes? Linear and spot?
Thanks.

Will these yellow or otherwise lose their visual clarity overtime from the sun? (I can understand dust degradation, and the like.)

@GREENPOWERSCIENCE is there a reason you can't use it for outdoor purposes? (other than the starting things on fire part)
