I've played through the first VP game and have a ton of gardens there too, but I haven't played it since I got TIP! So I'd probably have to relearn the whole thing!

The best way to get money is to learn a romance game really well and get lots of twin wildcards to sell. If you do it with higher level pinatas you'll get hundreds of thousands of coins in no time. Also, sending a pinata to a party will get you 10% of its value in coins when it returns to the garden. For valuable pinatas this can be a lot.
