  • Wicked! didnt know the maverics guy was so cool :D

  • Wow,,, This Guy is Great,,, What a Talent,,, What a Voice, What Timing,,, Great Talent,,,, Not Since Elvis,,,

  • Raul is great no doubt, but those who say he is the best voice since Elvis forget about a fellow named Roy Orbison.

  • One of the best country songs.

  • Nope he sings it best ....sorry elvis lovers

  • Elvis wasnt first to sing this, just the most well known study some of the older guys and you will discover some gems.

Personally i dont care for this version as it seems utterlessly feelingless to me. The singer should be putting much more feeling into it,

  • 7 People are completely clueless.

  • Raul Malo, I love you (Greetengs from Norway)

  • Raul the Voice !!

  • To me, this song is great,no matter who does it.It's just one of those songs.Raul does have an incredible voice and does nail it in rockabilly fasion.Snow's version is my favorite, but the rest of 'em are all tied for second!!! Thanks for posting this version!!

  • Great rendition of a classic, Raul. Cheers

  • Has he done unchained melody yet?

  • Malo turns every song he touches into great swing parties, just pure FUN to listen to, great performer live...:-)

  • Raul is not a " copycat" singer! He is paying tribute to the songs and artists he covers. Most the time Raul sings BETTER than the original.

  • I know! I don't like to compare him to Elvis, because he does not sound like Elvis, but agreed; he is the best voice since Elvis! Stunning!

    What a gift!

  • That piano player is so great

  • @MRmatchboxblues That is Robert Chevrier, MR. He and Raul have done tons of work together. Robert is an awesome talent and a great singer in his own right as well!

  • like the piano

  • Bill Trader wrote this song. I should know, I'm his daughter........Shirley Trader Ard

  • Hi Super super super ,pozdrawiam z Poland:):):) lekki jazz

  • Great showmanship! ; no easy feat given all of the things that can go wrong with gigs !

  • He isn't trying to imitate Elvis, and that is great, too many try to ride on Elvis's coattail, and atleast Raul is making it with his own voice, not trying to be someone he isn't, I personally think that is GREAT!!!!!

  • i love elvis but by god is this a great version ...i love it

  • I love this song and video! I can't resist reaching for my upright bass and getting down on these bass lines. Great Job.. and Thanks !!

  • The old jazz line, "It don't mean a thing if you ain't got that swing." These guys got it. :-)

  • "(Now and Then There's) A Fool Such as I" is a popular song. It was written by Bill Trader and was published in 1952, performed by Hank Snow who peaked at number four on the country charts [1] early in 1953.

Well, I guess we were both wrong. Snow did not write it, ole Bill Trader wrote it. Anyway, thanks for setting me straight!

  • OOps me, I was thinking of another song, sorry. Yes, Snow wrote it........sorry.

  • Rodney Crowl was born in Sept. 1950, Hank Snow wrote 'Now and then (theres a Fool Such as I) in 1952.

    fmh

  • This is just wonderful. A GREAT revision of Hank Snow's song. Thank you Raul.

  • Rodney Crowell wrote this song

  • @midlynn

    hank Snow wrote this song.

  • @jatcfred

No, Hank Snow sang it, but Rodney Crowell wrote it.

  • @midlynn

Hank Snow wrote 'Fool Such As I' in 1952. Rodney Crowl was born in 9/1950.

    fmh

  • @jatcfred ... Neither one wrote it. My father, Bill Trader, wrote it. Rodney and Hank,( along with over 100 other artists) recorded it. Elvis was my favorite, but Dad always liked Jim Reeves and Hank Snow's version.

  • Can't believe i've only just herd this guys songs, wow how good is he ???, never herd anyone else sing Johnny Cash, Roy orbison and lou reed songs like Raul does, fantastic voice, fantastic range of songs & styles

  • @stevebow747 hi steve, youve heard of the mavericks surely, check em,also, matchbox by carl perkins and raul,it s the best version ever.,alan

  • Yeh i have heard the mavericks and have always liked thier music , i didn't make the connection at 1st, the first time i ever heard Raul solo was 2 weeks ago wow what a range of songs & styles he has & yeh i heard him with Carl Perkins

  • hi,steve did u hear of a band called,Little Texas,may not be ur thing,but awesome harmonies

  • great song

  • Another amazing Vocal, what a Star!...jack

  • Saw Raul and the Mavericks at Country 2000 in Dallas back around 1998. What a voice! What a show!

Raul Malo is one of the best singers of this era. He could hold his own with Dean Martin, Elvis, or Roy Orbison.

  • Raul will be in Woodbridge, NJ on April 7, 2010!! I'll be there!!!

  • I saw him lat night at the Coach House in SJ Capistrano, CA. (for the 1st time!) Magic!!!

  • Brilliant-- whatcan't he sing? raul rocks along effortlessly in this.

    Thanks for posting

  • WOW......Amazing bass with that thumb,cool groove

  • Cool!! Rockn!

  • this swings! great stuff

  • Raul is a great talent, the best male voice since Elvis

  • @garybonoyer i would say hes the bet modern voice. Roy orbison gave elvis a hella of a run and elvis even said that roy was better than him. Elvis, Roy, and Raul though are in my opinion 3 of the best voices in history.

  • @garybonoyer c'mon fella, how about RICK ASTLEY, CAS HALEY AND MYSELF?/ HA HA!

  • @garybonoyer Raul, excellent music and nice Fender Jaguar guitar. The only thing you need to do is lose some weight. You're a very handsome guy and I say this because I want you to be healthy, not because you need to look better. I just don't want to read in the paper that you had a heart attack.

  • Doesn't matter if its not as good as Elvis's the fact that his music is played today is a great tribute to the King. I am so glad singers like this guy do it in their own style and try not to be imperonators, well done champ.

  • @BourneDavey29

iS A TRIBUTE TO eLVIS OR hANK sNOW?

  • @BourneDavey29

    AMEN! : )

  • this is a Hank Snow song

  • @rant242 -Right on! From Nova Scotia Canada, & talk about a guitar player, #1 at that time!

  • Elvis had the version I loved best but I like the Mavericks too.

  • bob dylan did a great version of this song. this version is killer

  • dayum. that's some whole lotta pianer.

  • Like a german Tanzkapelle but I like it! ****

I did a less polished just for fun version of that song on my youtube site.

    Hope you enjoy it, too.

    Greetings

  • What a great remake by the mavricks

  • I've always loved Raoul's music - mainly his romantic ballads. He sounds good here, altho certainly putting a different slant on this song made popular by Hank Snow. He sure does have some great musicians - good looking guys, too, I want to say. Thank you for posting. - Paula

  • ciao raul hope to sing with you at your show once more .thank you for let me sing back in florida in the 70s ciaoo adios carlo m.

  • I dont know who is tapping those ivories...but his solo gave me chills! DAYUM...lol ;-)

    Great cover.

  • Very nice, but not even close to the king.

  • Man Raul you have made this your own. Awesome!

  • Raul Malo writes a lot of stuff. He's not a household name because music in this country is mostly crap and really great musicians and artists struggle to get above the din that you hear most of the time. Tastes have changed in country ( which is now more rock than country--witness all the Gibson guitars used by modern "country" artists. Great country bands like the Mavericks and the Deraillers haven't sold out to appeal to the masses. And don't get me started on rap and hip hop !

  • I detest "rap crap" also....and don't get me started on hip-hop...today's generation doesn't know real music at all....

  • what does playing a Gibson guitar have to do with anything. it's not the insturment you play it's what's played on it. it would still be crap if they were playing fender telecasters.

  • Fender guitars, both Strats and Teles, rule the rock and country music worlds. Pay attention, boy, pay attention!

  • Let me add the Jazzmasters and Mustangs as well.

  • Hey rll1954 - you don't get out much do you. It's the Fender marketing department seems to be ruling the world. Some of their guitars have been pretty good, like the other hundred or so good makers. You remind me of the other 15 year old guys who wear Harley t shirts.

  • Raul is playing a 1962-66 vintage Jaguar though. Look at all the switches and knobs....I used to own that exact red 63 version like he is using. But you are right about the Teles and Strats ruling country.

  • chretiend123 or is it Cretin123.

In reply to your stupid comment about being fat. The only fat thing on here is your dumb mouth.

  • ... well, his way of doing it ... GREAT !! !! !!

  • Nothing can ever top Hank Snow's version, but Raul Malo definitely makes it his own with this version. 5 stars!

  • Raul, felicidades, soy de Pinar del Rio y amigo de tu familia, de los Malo de Pinar. Tambien conozco a tus primos aqui en Puerto Rico, Mayito es el médico primo tuyo que vive en PR y su familia.

  • I've been listening to Mr. Malo and his Mavericks since 1990 and like a good wine, gets better with age! Good driving music too. Got a couple of speeding tickets in his honor!! Go cat Go!

  • Baily and the Boys she sings this fantastic of all versions i heard....Not that he doesn't sing great. I love his voice

  • Me encanta la voz de Raul, el puede cantar lo que quiera... Kisses and blessings

  • Wow! This man is a fantastic singer!

  • Doesn't matter with that voice (doesn't matter at all, actually).

  • Great Raul, grande Raul, for his own or with the Mavericks, en solitario o con los Mavericks. Saludos desde España, greetings from Spain

  • What a voice--I mean incredible!!

If he hadn't put on about 75lbs in the last 15 yrs. he'd be a major star--not that, that should matter but everyone wants the pretty boys.

  • Good!! Excellent!! from Japan.

  • good bourban, and a great voice

  • beautiful tone to his voice.

  • I love this song and thought that Baillie and the boys did my favorite version until I saw this!!!! Awesome Keyboards!!!!

  • Come ON! They both are fabulous and such a gift to listen to them!

  • AGREED!!!! Anyway, he looks like Orson Wells in this clip!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Not necessary to be nasty about it. I saw Orbison live at least a half dozen times. I've seen Raul 4 times. He has a great voice. What talent do you possess? Don't watch the videos if it bothers you so much.

  • nevah and I say nevah try to tell me what to watch bung...now thats my nasty stuff reply...truth is Malo is a great singer, I have a lot of his music, trouble is he has too many songs that are crap and his good voice is not there...Orbison stands out way above him in every way...that is my feelings, yours may be different and you are free to say so, just as I do...just dont tell me I cant.....

  • You're an idiot.

  • and have my permission to kiss my ass you silly little girl...

  • First chance you get have your shrink adjust your medication.

  • real bright response creep, know the difference in your mother and....never mind..

  • Just lost my mother recently. Do you even know who yours is? Or, hasn't your uncle told you yet who she is? He should know. He's probably your daddy.

  • keep looking, youll find her

  • Malo's voice when he's performing live is far richer and also more versatile then Roy's was Also when Roy was Malo's age his voice was shot to pieces, while Malo's keeps getting better.

  • bullshit

  • I saw him perform last night for the first time, in San Diego, and I swear if I was a woman, I'd want to marry him...what a voice! Better than Van Morrison, Sinatra, Orbison, or anyone I can think of. Why isn't he a household name?

  • He doesn't have his own material! Sinatra, Orbison, and even Van Morrison had their own material and their own sound. Granted he has a truly GREAT voice, and covers a range of music genre. However, he simply doesn't have his own sound nor his own songs, hence he has become a VERY GOOD cover artist...think Michael Bolton with a better voice!!!!!!!!

  • Your point is well taken...which explains why Raul isn't more well known to the general public. I was just saying, from pure singlng ability, I think his voice is superior to Orbison, Morrison,et al.

  • Not true. Malo wrote a *lot* of the Maverick's songs.

  • dcarpend, he sure did. He wrote most of their music. He does covers out of respect for other artists. The man obviously loves music.

  • He should incorporate a standup bass in his band. This is good, but that would make it rock and swing even more.

  • that was great.

  • Has any1 got the video to "Losing Side".

  • Could somebody please post..Dream River ?

  • actually packingten raul malo has made me fuking luv swing, counrty and jazz music and makes me happy wen i listen to him sing and the band play, so erm ye fuk u

  • This is not Rock'n' Roll as the one from The King is, but is a wonderfull surprise!

  • This song is so great it so catchy. Who cares about his weight instead people should care about his great voice and his lovely remake of Elvis Presley's song. Mao keep up the great songs!

  • concerning Rauls weight what has this got to do with the price off eggs in china?, or are you one who takes pleasure in bashing people, and probably has never made a mistake and everything has always been perfect in your life??, Give me a guess of how many people you have made happy in your life??, perhaps as many as Raul Malo???, lighten up Francis

  • Thanks kinsinga, you're right, Robert Chevrier is FABULOUS Is he still connected to Raul Malo? I'd sure hang onto HIM!

  • Yes he is!! We just saw Raul, Robert, Jay (bass), and Tom (drums) in NYC. We were on the Rockin' the River Cruise around the Hudson River...it was incredible!!!

  • jonihermit...the keyboard player is Robert Chevrier...he is originally from Canada and he is FABULOUS!!!

  • Anyone know who the keboard player is? He's wickedly wild!!

  • I love Raul's voice, but I dearly miss The Mavericks.

  • He is at the top, one of the most respected singers in the world! has a list of production work that would make any performer blush too...And he is bloody nice guy too.

  • I used to watch the Mavericks live at Churchill's in Miami.

  • I have seen him with the Mavericks in Liverpool and London, England and I saw him on stage with a friend of mine in Liverpool. Miami would be nice though!!! and warmer.

  • Thanks for the info. I just love this guy's singing and I normally like a voice with more edge. With the right manager Raul should go right to the top!!

  • Hey, this guy can sing and I love the band. Where does he hide out? Great tune, always loved it.

  • 1533tony

RAUL IS THE LEAD SINGER AND MAIN SONG WRITER OF THE MAVERICKS

  • In a just and righteous world, Malo would be the biggest star in the world. Instead, we get Fergie or whatever the F is selling today.
