For people who don't specialize in horses: Akhal-teke horses are turkmenian horses, and though came from current Trukmenistan territory. As I know they do not allow to export the horse from country, although I know couple of guys in some european countries who have them. Damn, I'd do anything to get one...
They are usually about €8000 and above. If you look hard enough you might find some cheaper deals. Normally the more special the colouring and flamboyant the paces, the higher the price tag.
I love ahaltekes (Or Akhal-tekes, but we in Finland call them ahaltekes because in russian they are ахалтекинская). I'm going to buy one from Estonia, they just... took my heart, just like iceladics did too. <3
How are they to handle? some look a little "wild". I love horses, and I'm very intrested in these old type horses, like Akhal Teke and Caspian horses. Love this video.
They definately require different handling. It's much easier to "negotiate" with them than use any type of harsher training techniques more commonly used. Mine, he looks hard to handle to the outsider but he easily controlled with just one hand and a quick "Oi." Riding him breaking him was just too easy.
They are very unique looking, they remind me a bit of a siamese cat, with long sleek lines and you can see how they would be good at endurance with an effortless ground covering trot. I know they are pretty rare, are they expensive?
I'm afraid they are a bit on the pricey side. There's only a very very few in Aus too, so you'd more than likely have to import from Europe/Russia or US.
I think you should go back to school and learn how to write in English. Since you like thoroughbreds so much, maybe you should read up on the genetics of one to find out whether or not they would have existed if it wasn't for this breed of "ugly" horse!
The teke is an ancient breed who has survived the harshest conditions. Those conformation 'flaws' did not hurt its survival chances and probably the horses came originally from a small selection so the flaws became more prevalent in the breed.
Okay all you AT lovers out there... The akhal teke is a lovely mover, but can someone explain why every example of the breed I've ever seen is upside down in the neck and has little to no topline? Even the dressage videos I've seen are of high headed horses with minimal topline.
The breed a hot blood is primarily a racing, endurance and throughout history a war horse. In addition it's a desert breed coming from some of the most hostile and dangerous environments on the planet. A high set neck is needed to look out for predators, snakes etc. Too much unnecessary muscle to maintain in arid conditions is a waste and would jeopardise it's survival.
What you're looking for is a warmblood, you won't find those attributes in this horse. We love it for other reasons.
İşte bu bizim atımız kısakansanızda çatlasanızda hakiki türk atları:)
Yes these are turkish horses named with türkmen horses. You can jalous turks and you are true to be jealous us because In my opinion this is the best horse type of the world and it belongs to tukish people. Everyone can reject it but they belong to us.:):):):)(Turks born with horse and die with horse) This is a turkish proverb.
actualy so called turkish nation didnt give nothing to civilization - just destruction. And now in this video they are doing the same - trying to still TURKMEN hourse. How stupid can somebody or beter how turk can somebody bee :)
stupid turks leave their sheet even on this beautiful video about hourses. The truth because somebody ask is turksih nasion actualy dosnt exist till 19 century - they are mixture of different people (arab, greeks i dont know what else) which was converted to muslim in former teritory of Osman Empire
Hey guys why don't you check where the word Akhal Teke comes from? Stop your debates plz, it is turkmen hourse. No one except turkmenistan in the turk world does not have such beautiful hourses. In the same time I don't say that our roots are seperate from turok roots.
absolutely gorgeous elegant horses, fell in love with them as a little girl when i saw one in a breeds of the world book and will continue to dream about having one. Their grace of movement, elongated lines and build are to die for.
I did exactly the same. I saw a picture of a beautiful, tall, gold coloured horse when I was 8 and I promised when I was big I would get a horse like that one. So I did and he is also the great, great grandson of the horse in the book! He was called Polotli.
It's a horse video, not an Eurasian political statement over Turkic lands, tribes and demographics. I'm sure there are better places to debate this stuff.
Although I understand the need to clarify ones nationality after all the basic stem of the word "Turk" covers a vast area, any more political statements beyond this point will be deleted.
and turkish name doesnt means any turkish tribe kazakh turkman uzbek kyrgiz or uighur or other turkic tribes turk name came from great gokturk empire and the people in turkey originally r turkomans but we name us as turks becouse turkoman uighur kazakhs kırgızs all turkic tribes were one of the part of great gokturk empire there is not a nation called uzbek turkoman kazakh or etc there r turkic tribes we r all turks though ı am originally a turkoman ı am a turk
turk and turkoman has no differences between as saparmurat türkmenbasi the great leader of turkmenistan said we are one nation but two countries our language , history and culture cames from same origins we r the builders of oghuz khanates gokturks and seljuks we r brother and sister so any one can say turks and turkoman are different ı am a citizen of turkey republic but ı am turkoman as most of the turkey ı am an oghuz as turkoman
I know and I admit that turkic nations are brothers. But this horse is A TURKMEN horse! Now, if you want to call all turkic people "turks", you might be right, but why not call all turkish people "turkmen" then, as well?! I mean, I will label everything that comes out of Turkey as "turkmen".
Technically speaking there are no Brazilian horses, no horses natively come from any part of the Americas. They are developed from imported stock from Europe and Asiatic regions. You might or might not be interested to know, that this breed of "ugly" horse was paramount in the developement of the Mangalarga Marchador, through Barb, Thoroughbred and Trakener lines as well as vast selection of other modern breeds of horse.
Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion, however misplaced and unresearched it maybe. I personally wouldn't call the Mangalarga Marchador ugly, though for me I find its unnatural, bizarre gait very disjointed, cumbersome and asthetically displeasing, totally surplus to requirements in any classical equestrian sport. The Andalusian, one of the other horses used to develop that breed is a hell of a lot nicer.
hey sorry, but i am brazilian and i like my horse, and i did my opinion, and my inglish is very bad, but Mangalarga Marchador is one new race and very good... ok? sorry i love all horses...
is it just me or do they look really ugly without a rider on the back?

These "ugly" horses were part of the foundation of the Thoroughbred , catch up on your knowledge before spouting off kiddo.
I own both TB and AT studs and I'll tell you that I think hotbloods are the only way to go.
But plese dont be so ignornant , and just read , you have the internet , please use it for its fountain of information.
