  • it won't pass 4500rpm

  • @liam21157 It feels cold here now..lol :-)

  • why is there a 7k rpm meter on a diesel?

  • @wav5000kb Maybe it lives in hope.. :-)

  • @wav5000kb maybe it reaches that rpm...who knows...it's a mercedes :D

  • @wav5000kb

just a guess, but they probably use the same guage across all the models, so it covers petrol too.

  • @SPTSuperSprinter156

    most probably

  • it`s Common Rail??

  • @salisisasi Yes

  • @salisisasi yes it is... :-)

  • Do you fel that diesel vibrations? (Impressive on the video)

  • @mathieuemi666 No you don't feel any vibrations when your driving the van, modern turbo diesels don't have the same vibrations as the old none turbo diesels from years past.

The only time you notice vibration is either when you start her up or switch her off, nothing in between.

    Thanks for watching :-)

    Greetings from England

  • -3°C is not cold (in absolute terms, you should consider humidity as well as it makes the biggest difference)

  • @mathieuemi666 If its -3 degrees in england, then for us who live here, thats cold. It may not be cold compared to other parts of the world such as Siberia, but we are talking about england now. :-)

  • @Bevoin1970 Are you serious? I live in Switzerland, and it's common to have -10° in January at 500m (200 ft). At 2500, they have -30° !

  • @Bevoin1970

Yea, but the cars are the same :D

  • cdi more problems..very bad auto...

  • Love Sprinters, they are heavy duty, good power and drives like car. Wish I had one.

  • Cold start? Hmmm??? Green grass below engine? :D

  • @garaisaicis true. but cold start by definition is when engine is at air temp. as in could be 65f outside, if engine is at 65f that is a cold start. to em i see cold start, i expect say -20 or more

  • It's hot ))) I starting my Sprinter at winter -34 degrees... With 2 batteries (80 + 200Ah)

  • @MercedesSprinter308D Yes that sounds very cold, too cold for me... :-))

  • I think it's hilarious that Mercedes put a 7000 rpm tach on a diesel that can only rev to 3500.

  • Looks good though... :-)

  • @Bevoin1970 ANNNNNND no redline Eh?

  • 3500? I do around 5000 every day... After 5000, it isn't safe for the engine, but anyway- this engine is very tough...

  • There could be 2 reasons for the difference - the Sprinters we used to drive at work were the 2.7's (2006 model) and the 3500rpm if you floored it was the rpm the auto transmission always shifted at, if you shifted manually I could probably see 5000, but diesels historically don't rev that high, if they do it's not really good for it.

  • Don't worry for me, I know exactly how much it can rev... =D

  • Oh I know, not telling you how to run your vehicle. But diesels have a history of usually (key word) not being capable of high revs because they are built with such heavy, durable parts. A diesel engine will always weigh more than the same size gasoline engine.

  • I drive it every day... But it isn't 311 but it's 518 with 3.0 engine. It is our working van, we transport bumpers and carbon fibre parts for AMG. And because it makes a lot of kilometres, Mercedes ordered total deconstruction of the whole vehicle at 60k intervals, so we can measure the microscopic damage on the cylinders and pistons with daily torture (high revs, high speeds, heavy loads)... Now it has about 290k km, and it doesn't show much microscopic damage. As I said, it's a tough engine =D

  • @gears2boomshield

I have had over 5k RPM out of a sprinter

  • @gears2boomshield loool CDI's can do more than 3500 its not TDi, my dads dCi revs up to 5000..

  • @gears2boomshield. How come it can only rev to 3500. We had a vito which went upto 5000 or 4500 then the redline. Like most diesels.

  • @jonny2k100 Sorry I should clarify that. It will usually always shift at 3500 under full acceleration under automatic shifting. It can be made to rev higher when using manual shift off of "D".

  • @jonny2k100. Yeh I maybe should of thought about it first aswell. lol

  • @jonny2k100 If engine is new dont past 3000~3500RPM

  • @jonny2k100 press the clutch pedal and it will rev up higher. See no sense in that but the clutch pedal sensor usually limits the revs.

  • Fantastic vans these. I don't own one, but I'm a delivery driver for Waitrose which has a fleet built up mostly of MWB Mercedes Sprinters. Have been driving a Mk.1 facelifted model on an '04 plate since June this year. Was a great work horse. This week though that van got taken out of service. Now we have 2 identical '59 plate Mk.2 MWB Sprinters at our branch. With all the mod-cons, and boy, what fantastic vehicles they are! Such a treat to drive.

  • Stop !!! Please dont tell me about your mod-cons, like cd player, elec windows etc... ha ha I have none of these things, even central locking, in fact I think Im lucky I have a steering wheel..LOL

Your right though, I can confirm as an owner / driver they are brilliant work horses. Mines a 54 and coming up to 280k now. Its becoming a little worn here and there but I love my van. Its my living and we go everywhere together.

I look fwd to driving the new shape one of the days...LOL Thanks. Paul

  • @Bevoin1970 We have 3 from years 2006-2008. You should try them with automatic transmission.

This is one of the thing Mercedes is really good at and it's way more useful than electric windows.

Plus we are not scaried anymore when we have to borrow one because I have known lot of people that just destroy the gearbox in no time (one of our vehicle (Ford) had its manual gearbox replaced after 30 000 km...)

  • thanks for the info mate

  • Thats ok. :-)

  • are these van reliable im thinking of getting a 311 cdi for a euro road trip , what kinda speed n fuel econemy n is it gonna break all the time thanks

  • Go for it, you wont find a better and more reliable van on the road, it's German Engineering, brilliant build quality. Obviously if you buy a second hand crap one thats not been looked after you could be in for some trouble, but this applies to any second hand vehicle. Stick at around 60 - 65 mph for best results. Good luck. :-)

  • Where's the cold start???

  • i used to have a 98 transit Di but it wasnt CDI. I dont really care much for common rail but yours seems to run and start pretty good. how many miles ??

  • just gone onto 247.000 today, Aaagh

  • my uncle has one of those vans and he uses it for couriering like you. His has 601000 miles! NO WORD OF A LIE!!

  • I can believe it, that's why people buy Sprinters, because they go the distance providing you look after it... Good luck to him

  • well hes just bought a 2009 ford transit 2.6 TD so i might get the sprinter! (cant think why i'd need it tho haha) its a 1997 sprinter in silver with ALOT of rust. hahaha! what year is yours ?

  • Even my old 1997 Transit Di would start instantly in really cold conditions. However at 72 Bhp, a snail would out perform it. Think I'll go down the Mercedes Sprinter route for my next van...

  • Definitely a good choice, I like Transits but people say after 100.000 miles they begin to fall apart ? I don't know personally, however I can vouch for the Mercedes Sprinter, this van goes the full distance... You look after it and it will look after you, trust me !

  • Totally agree about the Transit. My one was mechanically sound, returned 28mpg empty and around 26.5 loaded with tools etc. However I couldn't believe how quickly rust took hold - even on protected panels. I did some research and it seems Ford used steel with low phosphate which rusted from within! I got rid when I found a 8 inch crack in the chassis above the rear axle. I also had a 1992 Transit which despite being looked after, also rusted at an alarming rate.

  • Mine is also not without its rust patches here and there, It's a constant battle trying to stop it all spreading, I have a one or two paint blisters as well dotted around, grrr :-)) when I think back to how nice it looked on the forecourt the day I picked my van up, and now !!!.... I know it's a working van, I still don't want it to rot away before my eyes. Now should I ever come into some money.... :-))

  • i used to have a ford transit Di. could you make a video of starting it and looking round it and maybe driving ??

  • Sorry, I got rid of my Transit 18 months ago due to terminal rust and despite its reliability, I couldn't put up with the lack of power. At 72 Bhp it had the low ratio back axle which made motorway and A roads journey's tiring and did nothing for fuel consumption. If you ever buy a 'smiley face' Transit, make sure you get the last version turbo-diesel with the drive by wire throttle and approx 115 bhp output. They fly along nicely but are hard to find now - especially in good condition.

  • you think 72 bph is slow. you havent driven a 89 transit n/a diesel with 59 bhp!! pinned at 71 mph on a flat road. 0-60 22.3 secs. 0-60 fully loaded 39.8 secs! i really dont know why they put a 4th gear in it HAHAHA! i was in 3rd flat out and going 62 maxed. im tellin ya THAT was slow!! my mums ford fiesta 97 has 75 bhp.

  • No not on Sprinters, unless your operating in minus -20 deg c so I have been told....

  • OK. I have a Peugeot 405 turbo diesel 1994 and I have to wait for the diesel light to go off before It will start. I think most modern diesels are the same as yours.

  • watching this video again i noiticed that the glow plugs did actually activate. you can hear the faint clicking of them.

  • I tryed save one video in widescreen but i diden`t work , it was the same as normal i stil got black borders .

  • Change your camcorder settings first to 16:9

You must film in 16:9 to begin with.

If you use Windows movie maker as I do to edit your film, you need to go into the tools and change the video settings to 16:9 ( not 4:3 ) and change from PAL to NTSC. Save your settings and hey presto. All future uploaded films will now be in widescreen. Contact me again if you have trouble.

  • I want one of these but they don't come with manual in Canada.... VW is the only cargo van with stick here but they pulled out their vans while ago. Know anything about how long the automatic will last?

  • No sorry never driven one, most sprinters here in the UK tend to be manual shift.

  • How were you able to get an old style Sprinter with only 900 miles on it? They still making them?

  • I wish ! That was the Trip counter your reading. It has clocked 212,000 miles now...

  • Hahaha, I work on Sprinters all day. I should have figured that out.

  • Nice one !

  • Wow, it sounds amazing! Thats what a Diesel should sound like^^

  • mercedes are the best wish i had one of there cars!!

  • I agree with you, however the extras all come at a price

  • wow it looks great in wide screen

  • Thanks, I like it now too !

  • Yippeeee I've cracked the wide screen issue.
