the original is always better, Steve Earl is the man!!!! any monkey can imitate a great song!!!!! mundy's version is a replica of Steve's. if u rip off a song, make it differnt
I had no idea there were more comments until I got an email alert from blueheadcrazyguy and revisited this site. Doubt the intelligent person comment was directed at me, I don't know much. Macangusagain is the guy who knows a lot. He corrected me. I was mistakenly informed that Steve Earle co-wrote Galway Girl with someone else. It seems he was the sole writer. I am justnow getting up to speed things, like the incredible mixed culture of the Southern Highlands of the Appalachian chain.
When I first heard this song, I had no idea it was co-written by an American from Tennessee. He also wrote the wonderful Afro-Celtic Cherokee war dance, "Copperhead Road." I think this is not country western, but bluegrass, which evolved from the heritage of Scots and Irish who settled in the southern Appalachians in the the 1700s, intermarried with the Cherokee and Creek and swapped music and dance steps with the African slaves.
since it looks like Ireland wholeheartedly embraced country western music (to my total horror), you shouldn't be upset if someone vaguely in that genre writes a song about Ireland.
Country music????? In Ireland???? I was totally appalled. Even country stations. Gag me with a spoon.

Mundy= better singer by far than Stevie Earl and a far better mandolin player, but one thing you can't take away from Stevie Earl ,what a hell of a fine song he wrote , in nothing flat it's at the center of the Irish love for dance and music, what a sing along song, what an infectious dance song !! Even this tired and beat up old scot loves it, and I love Sharon Shannon on the many versions she plays accordion, simply a wonderful young Irish performer, and I've only listened to it 597 times !!!!

Like The Galway Girl track? Well Magners have just launched the Magners Irish Sessions, a series of gigs celebrating the Irish tradition of spontaneous music, with Sharon Shannon, Mundy & Damien Dempsey.
