Holy crap ur better than my computer science teacher. He explained it to me, i was like WTF?!?! It took like an hour and i still didn't get it. Then i came a long thins video and got it in about 8 mins
Pretty simplistic, but it's not really that bad of a breakdown .. but cache is much more important for storing recently used data from ram than storing instructions. You want to optimize towards data before you optimize towards code when it comes to intelligent cache utilization.
This demonstration is a pretty vast oversimplification of how to properly use a cache - and how you use it is extremely dependent on your specific goal.
Don't rely on this stuff in order to get into programming.
A good example why you can't always believe what you've watched on the Internet. Many errors in this presentation. For example, 'cache is for commonly repeated calculation'? The speaker got confused with computation reuse or function lookup table. Explanation for why not to use cache as the main memory is misleading although he did slightly mention SRAM (vs. DRAM).
Like buff2505 says it is so much easier to understand than text books. Does anyone know if there is DVDs that this lecturer has done, amazing clear and simple to learn!
Looks like great training vids. Where can one buy the full DVD sets? The SmartLearn website has removed the buying options. Are they still in business?
Awesome. I'm italian but I'm doing quite well with english: that guy is fantastic! I love the way he explain things... every school should be like that... we're sooo old in teching methods here in Italy!!!
Programing is the best way to learn any aspect of computing. I started learning C in parallel with assembly. Assembly will give you exact knowledge of how CPU works. Then you can easely move to any OS especially something like UNIX or UNIX like sys. and others as well. For networking I recommend to study simple serial communication. You would be suprised how many people dont know what are the differences between P and S communication...
its amazing how many people take IT so seriously in school, and when you get working for a company, everyone tries to confuse you or put you and try to put you with problems that are impossible to fix, especially the customers, people are a pain in the butt.
This guy is brilliant
