  • Make sure you flash from external SD card, Not the internal. I followed the procedure exactly and now my herotab c8 will not boot up. Is there a custom image I can download?

  • Just did this flash with the firmware update from the merimobiles site Android 2.3 Honeycomb UI. It went through the whole process, and then shut down. now it won't turn on. won't even power up.

  • @dangoodmp there is an thread on the Slate Droid forums dedicated to reviving "dead" tablets. It can probably help.

  • @MrTasselhof

I just did the same update, even updated it while watching this Video, I got the same error Dang got,

File system Check file zImage and now it wont power on period.. theres something wrong with the firmware.., and Do you have a link to the thread you speak of? I can't find it.

  • @SpiritWolfie

Because after I did what the video said to do, my Tablet will not boot up now and I found, although it doesn't seem to be helping..we got it to boot up once.. and back up again even after following the 'revive a dead tablet thread'

  • Make sure your flash the rom from the external, not internal, sd card.

  • Hello @MrTasselhof, and thanks for your vids. I just goy my Herotab, and it works pretty well. However, some applications just wont run, telling me that The application "X" has stopped unexpectedly, Please try again. It happens with simple apps like FB or Skype...I am still using Android 2.2, do u think updating would help? Does it have any drawbacks besides losing your data? Thank you so much!

  • @queeseeyoo I would suggest getting phoenixmod fromthe forums. It will reset/wipe your device, but is very fast Gingerbread 2.3.3

  • Mr. Tasselhof, I hve a more stable Droid X for Dropad A8, how do i send this to you. Its 80Mb. Do advice me if you're interested and tutor me how to or where to send it.

  • Mr. Tasselhof, I have saved three Dropad A8 from friends of mine who had the same problem. I am on a roll. Thanks again.

  • Mr. Tasselhof,,

The Firmware on merimobile seems to be a broken link or the file is missing. Please do send me a Zip of your downloaded firmware. Much appreciated. lawak_isip@yahoo.com

  • @lawakisip you can find firmware and even custom ROM links at the forum site listed in the review.

  • @MrTasselhof Hey, thanks so much for directing me to the Forum Site. Thanks man. After two nights of sleeplessness and continuous studying on the forums, got mine working again. I will continue to study on the posts of the other users. I now even learned to be a Linux user overnight (lol, still a Noob though). Now going to download Linux PDFs to even learn more on the sudo's dd's and what's what and what's not. Thank you so much! Word to Android users, the Linux-fix has worked for me.

  • @lawakisip happy to guide/help!

  • @MrTasselhof, umm what if my Herotab C8 can't boot to its screen? how can I update the firmware? It has power. Start-up screen is there but wont come up to its desktop or how is it called for Android... I am such a noob at Andoid.:-(

  • @lawakisip if you go to the forum link on the video, there is a pinned article about reviving a "bricked'" C8.

  • Mr. Hasselhof,

I went to your HerotabC8 firmware at merimobile-dot-com website to download the Android 2.3 firmware 0531 but your zip folder contains viruses in two files. So I am unable to update. Can you please remove the viruses as I would very much like to get your firmware 0531. Many thanks.

  • @sunyata88 I am do not work at Merimobiles, but you could go check out the C8 forum on SlateDroid and find the various available firmwares and ROMS.

  • can u play a lot of games on here or would an ipod touch be better

  • @superfishman123 I don't own any Apple products so I can't say for sure... I can tell you that the C8 plays just about every Android game I have thrown at it. So I would suggest checking out the catalog and see if there are some games that interest you... most likely they will run on the C8, but I can always possible test some of them if you want.

  • @MrTasselhof home run battle free version

  • @superfishman123 runs like a champ! ;)

  • @MrTasselhof thnks doe sit have a camera to upload to youtube wen i dont have my camera

  • @superfishman123 it has a front facing camera... not sure on the uploading directly to youtube from the device, but you should be able to copy the videos off the tablet and then upload them from a computer.

  • Comment removed

  • @dasunnydelite You should probably follow the steps to clear the market/cache. Go to Settings->Applications->Manage->Running - Click Market - Then Clear Cache (NOT CLEAR DATA!!!!) - Then Force Stop - Click Google Services Framework - Click Clear Data - Click Force Stop Open Android Market (it will error this is GOOD!) Shutdown and Restart the tablet - Wait for Wireless to Kick In - Wait for System to Finish Loading Wait until the "Google Sync" completes, then Open Android Market.
  • can you plz tell me why i have to get to the back panel....

  • @driftking11013 I don't quite understand your question. You shouldn't need to take the back panel off to update the firmware.

  • @MrTasselhof i am new to android so... what do you do after you take the back panel off... if you want you can just make a video thanks...

  • @driftking11013 there is a Internals/Di section video that I have already created. After the back is off you can remove the internal Micro SD and upgrade it if you choose.

  • I received this device 1 week ago and it came with 2.3 gingerbread. I have noticed that it consumes the battery within about two hours on a full charge, and seems to also consume a lot of battery during stand by. Would you suggest I install the c8lean rom? And if I did so would i use this same method to install it?

  • @MTBrampage yes the c8lean would probably help. there should be installation instructions on the forum, but I believe it is the same standard method.

  • @MrTasselhof I have also been recommended to install the fragcompany rom. Would you recommend to install c8lean or frag rom? Thanks

  • Hi where could i find the original Android Os that came with this tablet. I lost my back up image. Thanks

  • I updated and I can't login to android market or gmail or anything related to google, help please?

  • @HelloMyNameIsDecoy you might need to clear cache/data on the google framework services and market app.

  • @HelloMyNameIsDecoy same problem ? whaat i need to do

  • i'v heard that some firmwares actually give you full market access. can this one do that?

  • @silverifle At this point... all of them should have a full market. I would suggest though looking at the C8lean ROM on the forums.

  • Mr Tasselholf,

could you please help me...My Dropad suddenly couldn't log ini.

after Android welcome screen there's a dialog box which ask me to tap the undroid logo to begin, but when I tapped it no respond from the screen and just show like before... I still cant get into the tab...

and there's a notification on up side "blank storage or has unsupported file system"

could you please help me to deal with this...many thanks for your help..

  • @niwefy the forums will probably be the best place to get support. My best suggestion for you is to try another firmware update... perhaps the C8lean one.

  • Manage to Update it but the pad woun't run any aplications or run any change any setting after the firmware

  • And crashed

  • HELLO done an UPDATE NOW it saying LOW on SPACE??

Phone Storage Space is getting low...What to do ??

  • Hi,

I tried but after the logo came, tab freezed. No thing happening. What will I do? Any recovery?

    Please very urgent!!!

  • @dirbaha70 Try another firmware version. You may also want to try the C8lean version .51 off of the forums.

  • Can you show how to backup the OS on at Herotab MID 816. I think is a Samsung OS system.

  • @silverpi1 There are written instructions on the forum. I may eventually make one though.

  • Are you saying that you have to backup the entire operating system and every thing you downloaded.

  • @silverpi1 You don't have to... it is just usually a good idea... but if you have nothing in particular you need to save, then go ahead with the update.

  • hey bro, your C8 seems so smooth.

Can you tell me which firmware give you the smothest user expereince?

Mine is force close, wait, freeze with 15 Mar 2011 firmware.

    Thanks.

  • @almightyad There is a new firmware dated 03/22 that people seem to be pretty happy about.

  • So far we have found the same firmwares have worked on all the devices... but I can't guarantee that for OS version upgrades... Even if it doesn't work initially there is a good chance some of the Devs backing the device on the forum will find a way to adapt it.

  • I'm planning to buy this tablet but the one from apad model m7009. It comes with Android 2.2, and now the 3.0 is out. Can I install the new version on it? If so, do you have any videos showing the process, or any similar? Thanks!

  • Hi :-) You wrote "you may need to copy the files to the external sd card.."

So, is it possible to do the update from an external sd card, do you know?

    Thanks :-)

  • @SchlumpfiHB yes it appears so :}

  • @MrTasselhof

    Thanks, that's great news :-)

  • does the tab have a sleep mode (lockscreen and standby), if so how long is the standby time

  • @choudu1234 I know you can set the screen timeout to 1, 2, 10 & 30 minute intervals... and there is a lock screen after that. I am not sure about a specific standby mode.

  • @MrTasselhof also is the multitouch true multitouch. so you can use dual virtual sticks not like the nexus one touchscreen

  • @choudu1234 Yes you can play a game like Heavy Gunner or Tank Hero using dual "joysticks".

  • I have a question.

To back up the original microSD data, can you just drag and drop the data to a file on a pc, or do you have to use a disk imaging software such as Norton Ghost?

  • @brainderailment it requires imaging software as there are 4 partitions that need to be backed up in most cases.

  • Hey Tasselhof,

Is there a chance we could download the stock image/data instead of ripping it out of the internal SD ourselves? Seeing how easy it seems to break that plastic, I'd prefer to keep it together :)

Also any chance we'll see an AOSP rom compiled for this device?

This potentially means Gingerbread running on definitely capable hardware!

  • Thanks for your reply. I have another question if you don't mind.

I know there are factors to take into account but what range would one expect from the wifi on the C8 in either FEET or METERS.

    Many thanks

  • @909Twodogs unfortunately the C8 WiFi range is not very good. So far noone has figured out exactly why... I could be the case, it could be how it is mounted. The WiFi range is easily good enough for the average location... just don't expect to go across the street.

  • Hi Mr Tasselhof I believe the latest Firmware is 2011-03-01 which addresses

    - Faster Bootup/Response

    - Fixes battery display percentage (no longer stuck at 100%)

From what I hear, the wifi drops in and out, any comment on wifi issues?

  • @909Twodogs I haven't had any issues with the WiFi.

I can confirm the faster bootup and battery fix as well.
