I fight for a lot of progressive causes, but this is one I have a hard time wrapping my head around. I know top executives should be punished for hiring undocumented workers, but the idea of just letting people get away with breaking a rule seems strange to me. "Do not step over this line, oh, you already did? whatever."
It's not that simple. For years, businesses, large and small, have been hiring illegals, and the US Government looked the other way. They knew about phoney operations where illegals could buy phoney SS numbers. There were many investigations about these operations, and local & federal officials would do nothing to shut them down. But now, the popular thing to do is direct anger towards the workers - not the people who created the problem.
Like I said if we had severe punishments for high level decision makers when it is discovered that undocumented people are employed by them I would be very happy. At the same time we can't say "oh a CEO attracted you over here, now you can stay here, now that we caught you." I don't see anything inhumane in sending people back to their country when they sneak over here.
Do you not find anything inhumane about taking a 9 year old girls parents away? She's a US citezen. Should we send her to a 3rd world country? Dump her at the border where the drug wars have cost over 4000 lives in the last year? Solutions aren't always easy but we can do better. What is it going to take to close the borders?? Why are we waiting? 20yrs ago, the borders were to be closed and still not...these kids and others would not be here! Its illegal. Wjy not set a perimeter up with satellite and laser entrements. the abiltiy to work and school with birth records only. We have the abiltiy so use it. Not everything has to be military. The constitution says otherwise. Sending a 9 year old citizen to a country she has never been to (and neither have her parents for 11 years) is pretty inhumane. You would feel differently if you were that 9 year old. Also: The mother is now free and legally here with her daughter while info on Dad can't be verified.

Any critical thinking will tell you that our tax dollars will pay for whoever is unable to afford insurance at ER's. Do you think if those jobs were filled with poor white Citizens they wouldn't use the ER? Lets say you can magically remove the 12-20 million. If the jobs don't leave with them (some will and have gone overseas) do you think employers will pay enough for health insurance? Immigrants commit lowest % unless we continue to criminalize them to validate the right wing extremist point.

I know top executives should be punished for hiring undocumented workers, but the idea of just letting people get away with breaking a rule seems strange to me. It's not that simple. For years, businesses, large and small, have been hiring illegals, and the US Government looked the other way. They knew about phoney operations where illegals could buy phoney SS numbers. There were many investigations about these operations, and local & federal officials would do nothing to shut them down. But now, the popular thing to do is direct anger towards the workers - not the people who created the problem.

Like I said if we had severe punishments for high level decision makers when it is discovered that undocumented people are employed by them I would be very happy. At the same time we can't say "oh a CEO attracted you over here, now you can stay here, now that we caught you." I don't see anything inhumane in sending people back to their country when they sneak over here.
