  • some great inforamtion here thanks

  • Here comes David with another bedhead

  • @Incognitus7 lol, he always does does'nt he?

  • Cuckoo duck? Is anyone still awake at the BBC?

  • What a fucker

  • looks like Peter Griffin XD

  • this attenborough guy is my fav narrorator cuz he reminds me of a grandfather!

  • gull: get out of my ass :((

  • it should be called a Nigger bird, living off the work of others

  • @federalwarhawk rofl

  • wonderfull no

  • lol lazy ass cuckoo

  • this bird is like the equivalent of a welfare bum

  • 'I am sorry my brother, but I must leave. We are not the same you and I.'

  • Cuckoo = immigrant

  • @jcgarvey123 jcgarvey123 = stupid

  • I wonder if that's what happened in the Ugly Duckling story.......

  • Dam the Jews are just like the Cuckoos.

  • Cuckoos are assholes!!

  • @vinegar4yoWound exactly, the real world is better than anything someone could imagine. Attenborough helps of course

  • @vinegar4yoWound The more they have a chance of getting put in jail or attacked. Hence raping women would not be a good trait and would not be passed on. So natural selection would work against it, not for it.

  • @vinegar4yoWound no because you would be arguing morality from nature which is a logical fallacy. If you rape a women then yes, obviously you are literally passing on your genes, but that doesn't mean there won't be consequences nor does it make it morally right. And just because it's morally wrong doesn't mean natural selection is not fact. The thing is, naturally like all great apes, humans are social animals, so the more someone rapes to disdurb the society, the more they have a chance

  • This would be the equivalent of breaking into someone's house, giving birth in their living room to a psychotic murderous baby who kills all the children in front of the parent's eyes, then lives like a leech for ten years ceaselessly demanding food, shelter, and money to buy drugs like an entitled little shit

    just saying

  • @carcinogen20 awesome comment.. funniest shit i've read all year

  • this is better than some curel human that throw baby in the trash

  • I found cuckoo baby bird in my garden last year.

  • I'm in your nest, stealin' all your foods

  • @vinegar4yoWound they's no good or evil in nature just survival

  • wow. cheeky buggers.

  • HE HAS AN AWESOME VOICE!!!!

  • @vinegar4yoWound Cuckoos are not evil that is their nautral way of breeding, learn a little more on nature then you will understand.

  • @hstadam94 Screw that... talk about parasites with feathers.

  • @brennan998 Birds are beautiful creatures. And they could say the same about us, parasites with strange furr (Clothes) But people like you can't understand how beautiful nature is.

  • @BBCWorldwide Those amazing birds would be nicer if we could watch them at 480p, or 720p. But 480p is a minimum. You have the tapes, filmed in HD, so please, give us a scratch!?!? Thank you.

  • cuckoos are assholes

  • @theonlycmurph Why? Beacuse of their natural way of breeding? They are beautifull birds, we are the arseholes for building lots of industry on natural habitat. I love and respect people who look after their garden birds.

  • Woah the cuckoo grew bigger than the foster parent

  • I just found out that there is a cuckoo nest on my backyard with 4 hatckings, Anyone knows how to tame one ?

  • Comment removed

  • WOW the cuckoo duck mustve been one of the most amazing birds there is!!!

but how exactly did a freaking duck manage to sneak into the gulls nest lol

  • Darn nature !! This is cute but kinda weird

  • cuckoo duck= ninja

    cuckoo bird= asshole

    but its nature.

  • What a nice little pie those reed warblers would make! :D

  • Fuck Sarah Palin. Richard Dawkins FTW

  • The gull is so nice! letting the baby ducks ride on them

  • Ah this is the guy Mitchell and Webb were makign fun of.

  • I'm kind of conflicted.

I thing Cuckoos are smart as hell, but I still think they're mean as hell...

  • @JigokuShoujo543 If they'd have a human face it would be the trollface.

  • I don't care much for money, I just want to have enough to hire Attenborough to narrate a day of my life.

  • damn... now i just HATE cuckoos...

  • heck..lol..funny as hell but i still think cuckoo birds are mean ..ha

  • 2:15 is the funniest...

  • @Pianistos Lol, giant bird in a tiny nest,"meep meep".

  • A cucu bird sing cucu cucu it's so symbolic for us here in Europe.. reminds me of my childhood and the beauty of our land..

  • soubhan lah

  • So awesome. Asshole parent asshole chicks! lol

  • I SWEAR, THIS IS HILARIOUS. LOLOLOLOL. Stupid fat baby going "MOM, MOM, MOM!" and the silly duckling escaping!!!!! And the 2 babies looking at each other....Nature is so funny I swear!! Where are all the stupid father birds?!?!?!??!

  • "Dammit! i've been cuckoo'ed again!"

  • No avoid the effects of the self gene.

  • The cuckoo: A+ evolutionary cheater

  • I LOVE THIS SERIES!!! =D

  • Amazing stuff. At least the cuckoo ducks don't kill the gull chicks.

  • Wow, cuckoos are the assholes of the bird world!

  • @RivaJane lol

  • @Kwaj Your comment reminded me of the Negerian Couple who gave birth to a blue eyed blonde "bee bee".

  • So the cuckoo uses similar tactic to those birds as cats do near humans except killing the children part.

  • well, say what you want, but that`s one tough little duckling to go out on it`s own, good luck buddy XD

  • ahahaha this is such a funny nature

  • I want to see a video of the Cuckoo Mafia I read about on Cracked(dot)com.

  • few hours old and it can take care of itself. and look at our ugly foul human kids. all our human kids can do is cry like satan and yell and scream and just be endlessly irritating. everytime i see a wailing kid i just wanna shove a fork down her throat!

  • @bibi14930 too bad someone didnt do it to you

  • @bibi14930 A bit harsh there mate? starting to sound like a bit of a Satanist

  • @StupidWhiteGuys Actually in reality, Satanists consider it wrong to harm children...adults on the other hand, that's a different story. I know because I did a report on Satanism once.

  • @bibi14930 It's one thing to hate little kids and another to just be cold and brutal towards them. Human children cry because it's all they can do, they're helpless and can't fend for themselves, unlike animals. Consider that at one point you were also a child who, at one point, would "cry like Satan". Please think before you type such utter bullshit, it's humans kids who grew into adults that helped create the computer and internet in which you type your sadistic babble.

  • @squeaky93 Well said

  • The most scary, how cuckoo puts this not her eggs out to death.

  • does man have the instincs of the animals...could man live by his instincs or is he doomed to reason till eternity,,,unfettered wonder bout natures strangest creature of all...no go disect a shark.

  • @TheFriedLiverAttack Seeing as humans are animals then yes we clearly have mammalian instincts.

  • lol thats fucking sick

  • Baby Cuckoo bird: FEED MEEEEE MOARRRR!!!!!!!!!!11

Warblers: Shut up you fatass. You already killed all of your siblings, and now you've eaten so much that you're bigger than our damn nest!!!

  • nature is cruel, it is not fair for the little warbler

  • @Kristin3030

Yeah, I bet you haven't heard of a lot of things! Jeez, maybe you should just watch the video before making an idiot of yourself. Just because you never heard of them doesn't mean that they don't exist. Maybe you should try listening to this "really old guy with some sort of mental problem.", because I think that this "problem" you speak of is what we normal people might call "intelligence", this guy is smarter than you'll ever probably be

  • @Kristin3030

as well as showing your ignorance, you are also being ageist, discriminating against those with mental health issues, and being racist. i suggest you actually find out the facts before you make comments like that.

besides, do you really think he'd have so many awards, titles and a career lasting more than 50 years if he didn't know what he was talking about?

  • @Kristin3030 "This guy" was head of BBC2 but he gave it up because he'd rather make nature documentaries. That's class. If you are one zillionth as wall-known and loved as Sir David Attenborough when you are his age... well, it aint gonna happen.

  • wouldn't you think the warbler would cop on, I mean seriously ,look at the size of that thing.

  • imagine a human doing that:P hahahahahaha

  • What an asshole of a bird, haha. But such brilliant strategy!

  • On another note, are Cuckoos Israeli at all?

  • How does that fucking demon baby know to destroy the other eggs as soon as??

  • @SuperTrooper0110 Those that didn't had to share the food with the other chicks. Over many generations, those that just happened to do it, got more food, so they were the ones that were more likely to survive, the "just happening" getting more and more deliberate. That's how evolution works.

  • 2:22! So cute! Adorable. :)

  • Since when was a cuckoo a duck.

  • that cuckoo bird is a bitch!

  • Yes, she is a conniving little bird! LOL She is smart and knows what she is doing. :)

  • @tall32guy No, she or he has no idea whatsoever what she is doing. She's literally a birdbrain.

  • @Hugh7777 Either way, God programmed her very well, even if she is only operating off of instinct. :)

  • @tall32guy There is no such thing as God!!

  • เจ้านกกาเหง่าเอยไข่ไว้ให้แม่กาฟัก แม่กาก็หลงรักคิดว่าลูกในอุทร

  • Me parece interesante los dos extremos de la naturaleza.!!

  • "so... bringing up the young is a very demanding business in deed" It sure is for the cuckoo birds and cuckoo duck!s

I am so happy with that cuckoo duck who is brave and angelical enough to live on its own and leave the other baby safe in the generouse nest. So cute babies!

  • i think i just found my new msn name

  • THAT IS SOOOO COOL!

  • I just adooooooooooooore sir Attenborough! The enthusiastic way in which he describes nature and his humble nature are so remarkable. He really respects nature and sees that we are a part of the animal kingdom and not the other way around. He really is an amazing person.

  • WoW this documentary describes Australia perfectly!

  • Amazing! Hilarious the cuckoo bird is so FAT & GREEDY!!! The cuckoo duck is my HERO! It IS SO CUTE!! i want oneeeeeee (:

  • Yes all those birdies are cute. :)

  • oww my gushhh!!! soooo... cant explain!!! whats so very ....unbelievable....

  • I think I like Cuckoo "ducks" a whole lot better than the Cuckoo "bird"...poor thing has to survive on its own from birth, without knowing its real parents..

  • The cuckoo is a true parasitic egglayer. Although it's only following nature's plan, I find them loathsome. The cuckoo duck, on the other hand, is just using the gull as a warm incubator. Pretty small revenge for all the ducklings and goslings that gulls kill, then eat!!

  • Surrugate moms are all over the planet! T

  • Every coco bird is guilty of murder before it leaves the nest.

  • LOL the cuckoo is too funny! Pushing the eggs out of the nest like that. Born cunning.

  • Funny bird :P

  • Yes they are. Very cute and interesting. :)

  • ONE WORD "BRILLIANT"

  • the duck is so independent and mature, meanwhile the other cuckoo is so lazy and fat and greedy, lol!

  • Mr. Attenborough is a national treasure for his knowledge and hard work! Thank you.

  • I have watched David for 25 years and met him in person...i assure you he knows every word he reads and probably wants to say more but for a time limit. Of course he's using a script...he's doing voice overs. Voice overs he WROTE

  • Like an ATM, make a deposit and withdraw!

  • MALE WARBLER: Uh, honey? Look, just tell me straight out... have you been unfaithful to me?

FEMALE WARBLER: No!! What kind of question is that to ask me?!

MALE: Look at our daughter! She's three times my size, the fuckin' nest is busting at the seams cause she won't stop eating, and she's black! Don't you think I'm entitled to a little bit of suspicion here?! Give me that at least!

  • funny thing is, that the reetwarbler can actually afford to feed the cuckoo, food is quite abundant in his habitat. Nice example for co-evolution.

  • The way these birds die are just because of the cockass birds I FUCK THEM!

  • OMG some birds r jackasses lol

  • I like the way the duck behaves its very independent.

  • Baby gull: Are you my mommy?

Baby duck: Hell no jackass, now Im outta here!

  • cuckoos, you FAT BALD BASTARDS!

  • "the young cuckoo, BLIND and NAKED, now deals with the remaining warbler eggs"

man that makes me think... it seems to continue its parents' "legacy"... battle for survival can be so unpredictable....

  • ZOMG! that bird it TOTALLY AWESOME.

  • "2 weeks later, the monstrous young cuckoo can no longer fit inside the tiny nest."

Truly it is the goon of the bird kingdom.

  • i like the duck it such a g anti mouch frist day it leaves.

  • Lol, the male cuckoo duck looks so shady when Attenborough mentions it.

As if it was watching to make sure the duckling hatches before realizing it was noticed and swims away from the scene...

  • When you thin about it...the cuckoo is almost like a parasite....

  • The male gull father was prob like "What the hell is this!?" when the egg hatched and a duck comes out. His poor wife is will lose much of the nest in the divorce because she has been framed for cheating on him.

  • 4:07 The Ugly Duckling lol

  • The cuckoo duck - Nature's Mooch. I love it.

  • Indeed , what a lazy fucking bird.

  • HERES MY QUESTION: if the cuckoo chick/bird always kills all the other birds eggs/babies...how do they continue to exist...why havent they been wiped out?!

  • it will be like a predator prey population dynamics, as the reed warblers population declines, the population of cuckoos will decline (as there are less acessible nest). This will then allow the warbler population to increase in full cylce. Another possiblity is the cuckoo don't reproduce every year allowing the reed warbler population to recover (but thats a guess).

  • There isn't a 100% success rate for all cuckoos... I'd be willing to guess that even 50% would be good for a cuckoo, but this is beyond what I'm willing to look into right now...

  • cuckoo has many eggs. and of course not 100% (not even 50% ) of them survive becouse if it would be so there would soon be too much cuckoos. every cuckoo in life can successfully bring up only a pair or so.

  • did it not push out the warblers eggs? david says that she lay one of her own.

  • notice how the other 2 eggs hit the ground, the cuckoo eats 1 or two eggs, hatches 1 egg, then leaves 2 of the other birds. good question though, if those eggs on the ground would survive after that, however not every reed bird gets their nest taken over by a cuckoo, especially when the reed bird is guarding their eggs, many times the cuckoo cannot get away or is seen near the nest while the parents are guarding the nest.

  • eggs in water die coz it is cold.

the answer may be: there are not enough cuckoos to exteriminate other birds. cuckoos strategy may not be so successful as it seems.

  • @junction2x

Warblers usually guard their nest from the cuckoos so that doesn't happen.

  • @junction2x Because not every other nest has a cuckoo's egg in it.

  • What a selfish, greedy and asshole species of birds.

  • Lazy parents - getting someone else to raise your kids. Sounds like some humans I know.

  • @ScienceisBeautiful you looking in the mirror?

  • what a greedy fucker

  • i think i like cuckoo "ducks" better than cuckoo birds...

  • in Germany cuckoo is a word for the devil

  • LoL 2:16 ;P

  • lol, the parents now have to sleep on the floor. lol

  • cuckoos are f*cking awesome

  • cuckoos are EVIL!

  • after watching this video i now hate cuckoos

  • its all nature my friend,......... n cowbirds do the same but their youngs do no eject the host's eggs,......... unfortunately these cowbirds r so common that their act of parasitizing is leading to the extinction of some of their host species,....... so does this mean that cowbirds r more evil????

  • Not only does the mother Cuckoo lay an egg in the mother Warbler's nest, she eats a couple of the Warbler eggs before doing it.

    Damn, she's trifling! lol

  • And if the host birds are out of season with her, she'll bully them and break their nest and eggs so they have to start again

  • Prob stole the warblers car and took it on a joy ride too. Messed up the seat postion and took a dump in the back seat.

  • the last part of the scene with the warbler cuckoo the chick reminded me of chris farley... fat bird in liiiitle neeest

  • It's amazing how nature finds its own ways of surviving...we see it even in the smallest and "simplest" of animals! :)

  • sorry forgot the n,so dont cry

  • darwi sucks eggs

  • Lol at the duck part. but you have to do whats needed to ensure your survival

  • hahaha neglectful parents.

  • The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins talks extensively about cuckoos, so it's nice to see them in video. Especially with Attenborough explaining it.

  • That's cool...I just read Battle of the Generations chapter in the selfish gene and wanted to see it in action. It's good to see that Dawkin's book is still as popular as ever.

  • Ya I just read that chapter too and that's why I'm here. It actually chills me a bit to watch it, can't help but feel sorry for the warbler.

  • the duck moves out when its only a few hours old, what a rebel.

  • those cuckoos are something else...unbelievable!

  • amazing!?
