Lol why is she always getting her hair cut in movies? She is so beautiful :) When I saw the white headdress thing that goes under the habit, I thought "Wow. If I wore that, it would give me some serious forehead acne."
A beautiful film, seen it a number of times. But,as a child in school,I never thought the school head-teacher,Sr Mary Baptist, was a 'beautiful' person. She was evil personified!
@missseraphimarose So only Dominican nuns cut their hair? Or am Ii saying this right. I'm confused. Excuse my ignorance. I just wanted to know which nuns cut their hair and which ones don't.
Hollywood actually portrayed it well if you see the whole movie.... the famous Actress Dolores Hart (who starred with and kissed Elvis) rejected them and became a nun...
If any good hollywood persons hear this PLEASE make a respectable movie of her life!!!
I don`t understand why a nun has to cut the hair and why do they have to cut the hair?! Can`t they have a professional cut the hair, because the nun has to look at that everyday to take showers! I`m confused!
@AllHailEmily it's all about dying to self and rising in Christ. the sisters are freed from concerns regarding their physical appearance--they know their worth comes from being a Child of God.
Intensely moving to see a young person dedicating herself to Christ as a Dominican nun. Obscene to see the photographer intruding so continually in this ceremony. Thomas Merton once said that there nothing so inane a seeing a monk with a camera. The photographer manages to remind us of the utter banality of the captured moment when what is happening is on the eternal plane
@Zathinean Helloooo yourself! Of course 'A Nun's Story is a film/movie. The clip of a Dominican nun taking her vows with the photographer lying on the floor and in every other position was ridiculous and ruined the solemnity of the moment. Much the same as when photographers and video-makers become intrusive at wedding ceremonies. One has to ask oneself whether the ceremony is being staged in order to be photographed or because a woman is becoming a nun!
@PecanSandy309 Hey sheep you know what else god said? To suck his dick, are you going to suck it? If you don't you go to hell, ya that's right god has a plan for all heterosexual men, and that's to SUCK his gay dick! I'm just kidding, but honestly some of you religious people do have the intellect of a pea, there's nothing wrong with women cutting their hair short, grow a brain sheep!
@Ichliebemusikundybd I used to be Atheist. That's just my opinion. You'd think you'd agree with me on this. Hello! She's cutting off her hair to be 're-newed'!! There's no point in doing that when you're a nun.
@ned262626 As far as I know they have to cut their hair because they have to give up all vanity. Long hair traditionally stands for beauty and sex appeal - in consequence, nuns cut their hair short (not only in Christian culture). The whole dress is designed to make personal beauty etc. disappear, because it was thought that a woman serving God shouldn't think anymore about her appearance.
@PecanSandy309 he also said that their heads must be covered. so maybe it doesn't matter if their hair is short if its covered ? besides, what ever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. the church has power. if it says a woman under special circumstances can cut her hair than she can.
do women in your protestant church wear hats to your ceremony's like the bible says they must?
Leanneroyo: There was a time when noviciates cut their hair for two reasons. A - the habits they wore fit better but B - for monastic reasons it was a sign of not only devotion but also a sign of their losing who they were, and becoming one of the nuns, who all looked the same in a nut shell .. hope this helps
Ms Hepburn grand star of the movies was noted for her performances in Roman Holiday, My Fair Lady and Breakfast at Tiffany's however to me her greatest performance was as Sister Luke in this memorable movie Fred Zinneman directed fautlessly. Jack Benny who was Jewish wrote a letter to Jack Warner, also Jewish, complimenting WB for making this masterpiece. Ms. Hepburn was nominated but lost to Simone Signoret for Room At The Top. Today seen as an error. Ms Hepburn was that years best actress.
@skanemermaid You must have your cables crossed to find this scene erotic. It is a very powerful scene when a nun rejects the world to be come the bride of Christ.
Check out "Decadence and Catholicism" by Ellis Hanson on the subject. It might require more attention span than you possess, however, in your oogling of the pseudo-spirituality of a Hollywood movie.
In my opinion Miss Hepburn's finest performance. The Nuns Story brilliantly directed by Fred Zinneman was produced by Jack L. Warner for Warner Bros. A Major hit and Miss Hepburn nominated, but lost to Simone Singoret.
I could not agree more with you!. If you are a non-beleiver, such as myself, then a story about nuns hardly sounds a plot premise for a good movie. In fact, it was an outstanding movie with a great story beautifully told. As you say, Fred Zinneman's direction was brilliant & Audrey Hepburn was superlative as Sister Luke, especially later in the film when she is movingly torn by self-doubt about her calling. Franz Waxman composed the musical score for the film which was also brilliant!.
@GilChrist77 I'm a Jehovah's Witness, but I always found nun hood interesting. Our religion likes to study other religions better so we can come to an understanding and talk to ones that are apart of this religion. This movie was really interesting for me, even though I would like to meet a real nun in person. :)
@soragirl6 Shouldn't be hard to do. Just look for some Sisters in the closest reasonable size city. There are usually some everywhere. I'm sure that they would be happy to speak to you.
This movie was one of Audrey's most serious acting of her entire career. It's too bad she didn't win an Oscar for it because she certainly deserved it.
Technically, a convent is any home of a community of sisters - or, indeed, of priests and brothers, though this term is rarely used in the U.S. The term "monastery" is often used by communities within the Benedictine family, and "convent" (when referring to a cloister) is often used of the monasteries of certain other orders.
A nun who is elected to head her monastery is termed an abbess if the monastery is an abbey, a prioress if it is a priory, or more generically may be referred to as the Mother Superior and styled "Reverend Mother". The distinction between abbey and priory has to do with the terms used by a particular order or by the level of independence of the monastery.
A canoness is a nun who corresponds to the male equivalent, a canon. The origin and rules of monastic life are common to both. As with the canons, differences in the observance of rule gave rise to two types: canons regular and secular canons.
For instance, the Maryknoll Order includes a monastery of cloistered nuns who pray for the work of the missionary priests, brothers and religious sisters; the Sister Disciples of the Divine Master are cloistered nuns who pray in support of the religious sisters of the Daughters of Saint Paul in their media ministry; the Dominican nuns of Corpus Christi Monastery in the Bronx, N.Y., pray in support of the priests of the Archdiocese of New York.
They sometimes undertake contemplative ministries - that is, a monastery of nuns is often associated with prayer for some particular good or supporting the missions of another order by prayer.
They are usually self-sufficient, earning money by selling jams or candies or baked goods by mail order, or by making liturgical items (vestments, candles, bread for Holy Communion).
In general, when a woman enters a convent she first undergoes an initial period of testing the life, known as postulancy, for a period of six months to a year. If she, and the order, determine that she may have a vocation to the life, she receives the habit of the order (usually with some modification to distinguish her from professed nuns) and undertakes the novitiate, a period of living the life of a nun without yet taking vows that lasts one to two years.
In Roman Catholicism, a nun is a female monastic who has taken solemn vows (the male equivalent is a "monk"). Nuns are cloistered to the degree established by the rule of the religious institution they enter.

@djdhiraj1 She rarely wore her hair down when it was long. It was always up with the possible exception of Paris When it Sizzles. Half up half down at one point. So her hair was always short more or less, cause it was either cut that way, or because it was always up in a twist or bun.
@leanneroyo Maybe because her real hair is short lol I don't know. I iked her long hair too. But at least the short hair fits her face. Short hair doesn't fit everyone's face :P

The existence of a son implies that a father will get older!
What a son for then?!!
And that his son will be his successor in all his characters as a god.
This is a declaration that a father will not be powerful any more.
Thus, who assumes that Allah has a son , assumes that Allah is not powerful.
And that weakness will force Allah to be dependent
Is possible to believe that God of the whole universe will be dependent ?
