What does "line" mean? Does the term refer to staying on the racing line and cutting the apex (as opposed to the term i am familliar with "don't cut" which refers to keeping away from the apex because of some object in the racing line).
It's clear to see how easy it is to get caught out. Interesting that it happened on the first fast corner just after a tight complex... I wonder how often that happens. Much like the first tight corner after a series of fast bends, except then the co-driver is usually yelling at you so you take notice.
Sorry to see that Chris will not be in Norway. I really hope he makes it to Rally Oz in a competitive car.
I've seen pacenotes like this before, I guess some drivers prefer a bit more descriptive pacenote system, I'm perfectly fine with 1-6 lol, but I can still understand 1-10 since it's only a few more numbers.
the only reason you didnt hear tightens and minus is because most of them arent speakin english... they all have tightens and minus and plus.. its just in different language... petter solberg uses english pace note.. check him out
I use easy, fast, medium-fast and medium, as well as plus and minus, tightens, late and some others, but in spanish
I tried with numbers from 1 to 6 (6 the fastest) but I couldn't drive the same, I think each person has a way to visualize the curves when they hear something from the codriver
the problem is that you can have a 6 right ahead of a 3 left, and so the gear wouldn't be 6th. I think that guiding on the possible gears is very relative. Now I am using marks on the steering wheel when doing the recce, and always keeping the same speed. With this way I always have the same name for the same curve. But I think that putting more details on each curve (tightens, late, cut, keep right, etc) makes more accurate pace notes.
yea the term line means follow the racing line and cut means to take a closer line inside

Thank you Neahel. that was bothering me for a while now : )
Faststone85 2 years ago
or some cases it can mean elevation of the road. + meaning up and - down. this depends on the driver
tomblord12 2 years ago
That makes sense too, especially in a rally like Ireland, thanx

I like the pace notes of Atkinson, they are very detaild and, for me, help more then the others.

1 to 6 is colins old system, where its related to the gear you should be in to take that corner...I find it works well.

It seems like Chris uses 1-6 as the gear to use for the corner, and 7+ are just faster 6th gear corners.
