  • I WANT TO BE A BALLERINA !!!!

  • Half of these dancers aren't even anorexic thin, their healthy and have a dancers lean muscular body.

  • @RavenEvanesence No. If it's 'thinspo' it's unhealthy. Anything that puts unhealthy models on a pedestal only serves to give others an unhealthy goal. People should lose weight to become healthy, not to become thin.

  • These girls have muscles in their legs. You can't get much muscles if you're not eating.

  • nice video :) amazing ballerinas, I will never be one of them!

  • eu amo o ballet,isto e minha vida...♥

  • As a former soloist with a world famous company, I gotta say that a certain body type simply "looks better"

At junior school I watched talented dancers being let go - because their bodies weren't "right" for dance (well ballet anyhow)

Long limbs, long muscles (along with actual talent obviously) make movement (particularly adagio)look simply better than a dancer with short bulky muscle attachments, no matter how talented she is.

It's largely down to genetics I'm afraid.

  • polishedfaces.tumblr.com , follow & i'll follow back. Take care all xo

  • Why in the world is this a "featured video" on YouTube?!

  • YAY!!! STEREOTYPES :)

  • George Balanchine happened, and he wanted a very specific body type in his dancers.

  • @JennyFri15 you're right. and he left a strong impression on the body type that ballerinas are expected to have...

  • i like this vid, and love the song.. its just a real shame that the pictures are such a low quality.

  • check out a really good proana/mia site :)

    beautifullybreakable.webs.com

    add the w w w though, aha.

  • No one ever understands the pressure on ballet dancers to be skinny. We have to be skinny to do what we love... if we're not skinny we get the boot. People don't ever understand why I eat so little but you see i must...

  • @mlballerina it's why today's dance companies and choreographers really demand skeletons to work with that confuses me. if you know the history of ballet, the dancers of the earlier days even as early as marie taglioni - if you look at her paintings, she was actually plumpy. not skinny at all. in a more recent time, one of the finest ballerinas, anna pavlova had a beautiful body. not even a single bone showed on her chest. so why is today's dancers are demanded to be skinny, that's the question

  • @TheChaiTeaLatte there not ... not is west european and american (as in the continent) companies anyway (i dont know the russian standarts, and i agree they look skinnier than other dancers).

  • @mlballerina that's not true. im a ballet dancer and if you could name me a company that wants underweight dancer i would be more amazed than ever !! i know our world and i know that an healthy dancer is never a good one... is there somewhere you've auditioned and didnt get in because of your weight ? if so please tell me the company because i cant believe it

  • This is the PERFECT thinspiration song <3 "I want a perfect body, I want a perfect soul" <3 <3 <3

  • wishing this was me!

  • Im so proud of 0:16 photo she's my teacher

  • most of these girls are bigger than a lot of girls with anorexia. So why is this your inspiration? Think about it.

  • Encouraging others to take inspiration in order to spur on an eating disorder is highly immoral.

  • @whatdidsarahjustsay very good so very few can see that. These videos are toxic and very dangerous.I could not imagine encouraging anyone to starve themselves to death

  • @whatdidsarahjustsay there is a difference though. You can have a healthy thinspo. Just enought to lose the right amount of weight to where you're healthy and in shape.

  • I have the same song in my thinspo video, check it out.

  • so cuteeeee

  • im thin, but i dont have a eating disorder. I would never to that to myself or let anyone do that to themselves. I been dancing for 3 years now and i love it, being an anorexia or bolimic isnt the way to go if you share a love for dancing as i do. <3

  • it's horrible feeling fat in a leotard. i'm 120lbs & 5'4". @ 97lbs i'm gonna love dancing :D

  • It's about staying on the right side of the line between lean and thin.

  • being thin doesn't mean you don't eat.

  • i'm coming out of anorexia, and i don't know how i've finished here AGAIN, it isn't good 4 me, but i love ballet & ballet loves thin girls... so i want to be thin...

  • Just because someone's body is lean and healthy ('thin') doesn't mean they have an eating disorder.

If these dancer's didn't eat healty then they wouldn't be dancers. They would have died already. Dancing takes up a lot of energy and produces long, lean muscle.

  • @XxBallerina4ChristxX so many ballerinas have anorexia and bulimia. Bulimia is very easy to hide from others

  • incredible :'( truly amazing

  • look at 330

  • "I dont care if it hurts, i wanna have control. i want a perfect body. i want a perfect soul."

    good song choice.

  • @kmaelan112 It actually is if you were using sarcasm.. But it matches what these people with eating disorders think all the time? duh.

  • I'm a dancer been dancing ballet for a year and a half and have a very slim body and i'm very small but tall and only 22 years old but perfectly healthy and eat alot so But one must remember also that everyone that is slim doesn't have an eating disorder also but good video as a reminder for those who think about doing that to there already beautiful body..

  • Thebluecaterpiilar and DeadlyChinchilla I agree.

  • to me, this is sick and wrong. whether you realize it or not you could be triggering hundreds of people into ED's. no, you are not the sole reason but you could be helping it progress. also, i agree with everyone on here that you are twisting the image of something beautiful. these girls and women aren't thin because they have ED's, they are thin because in order to do all of those beautiful things they have to dance hours and hours a day. trust me i know, i've been a dancer for 12 years

  • What song is it? Love it!

  • who sings the song?

  • @aliciazeta012 radiohead

  • Oi! Ballerinas are skinny, though I am not a tiny dancer myself, because they work hard almost everyday not because they have ED's!

  • I'm a classical dancer who has danced with various ballet companies and I'm not thin. Far from it. Certainly I'm one of the more curvaceous. It's insulting, rude and childish to do this. Ballet is one of the hardest arts out there and if you are twisting it as a thinning exercise you've got another thing coming. Your video shows dancers who have once thing you may NEVER have - Passion and love.

  • 2:23 : who's that georgous woman ?

  • Why would you twist the image of an art form so brilliant and beautiful?

  • i agree with some other comments..you need energy to dance..but also, i think it's hard on some younger dancers who want to be skinny and whatnot.. (i dont have eating problems nor do i encourage them) there was a girl in my dance school who had an ED, in the middle of a recital she collapsed.. but yea...i like this video because of the ballet pictures..just not what their meant to be used for..

  • I'm angry that someone used these pics in this way...

  • 2:10 ballerina's only smoke for stress but nut to be skinny....

  • And 4 real, I found the video awesome, but the descrption... I feel quite offender by pple who are not dancing because of the feeling but because of the "looks", ballet is beatiful, but pple like u just... Ruin it!!! And BTW, inform yourselfs about healthy weights according to heights (BMI), there's a HUGE difference btween skinny and ED...

  • I'm 18, Im a ballet dancer, and I do not smoke, I eat 5 times s day, I go to college, I dance and strecht almost everyday, Im 1,65m and 100 pounds, and it's because Im naturally skinny, Im healthy and Im SURE someone with ED cant dance, u need what u eat, please, dont be stupid!!!

  • Thinspo isn't just for those who have eating disorders... Thin doesn't automatically mean anorexic or bulimic

  • what's the name of the song??

  • You can't use ballet as a basis for "thinspiration". Ballet dancers look thin because they are pure muscle and the movements they make emphasise this. I actually find the image of a person with an ED doing ballet quite hilarious... believe me, it wouldn't be the same.

  • what about the ballet dancer that so so badly wants to be skinny??? I am said to be too short to be a professional ballerina so i figured that if i get really skinny then i will be noticed, and its true, it works... sad as it may seem. but i don't care, my dream means more to me than anything else so i make sacrafices to get there. i just wish people would understand...and not object. i just want to be skinny and incredibly flexi and beautiful and perfect... <3

  • ok so what about the ballet dancer that so badly wants to be thinner and leaner but no body understands... i am often considered too short for a ballerina so i figured that if i get real skinny then people will notice me better... tried and tested and it's true!! sadly enough but i dont care anymore... i just want to be skinny so i can be noticed, i also feel inspired by my own body when i am skinny... i just want to be perfect :'(

  • Flapjackballet I agree totally. Cause i'm naturally thin and 22 years old but eat alot but workout.I have great muscle tone. And the thing is theres a difference between sick thin and natuarlly petit.

  • i think many of you get the video wrong.

its meant to be an inspiration for all those who wants to loose weight no matter, it doesn´t automaticly mean that you´re anorexic/bulimic.

for many girls a ballerina is perfection, because their healthy, athletic, graceful and so strong physically and mentally.

  • i feel very offended, the song implies that we are freaks, ballerinas are not perfect, we are the closest you can get, we do this by um, idk, o yeah, actually caring for our bodies! jesus :(

  • I've been doing ballet for nearly 14 years now, and although many dancers are small and thin, that doesn't mean that they're ill or starving themselves in any way. Talent is not based on how thin you are, it's based on a passion for what you do and a desire to practice. I'm 5'9, 12st, and as just as good as any of the thin small girls in the class. Starving yourself won't make you any better. Practice does.

  • I don't think this is thinspo..if it was than they couldn't do anything :p they maybe eat only low kcal and fat food but it's still something :p

  • additionally, i personally know 4 dancers at my studio alone who have had eating disorders. i agree that thinspo is bad and accelerates eating disorders, but the idea that they are absent from the ballet world is a naiive and uneducated standpoint.

  • i hate to break it to all of the people who are saying that dancers can't have an eating disorder, it is definitely possible, and even common :( the American College of Sports Medicine wrote that anorexia affects approximately 31% of professional dancers. in a 2005 issue of pointe, the four dancers in a diet article all ate less calories than needed to maintain their weight the lowest ate 1,400 a day.

  • where are all of these pictures from?

  • ballet is so so beautiful

  • Ballet dancers don't generally have an eating disorder.

They eat the same as an average healthy person, but burn of all the calories consumed while dancing ballet.

  • 1:39

    HOLY CRAP

  • it's not thinspo..yes they don't eat much..but if this was thinspo they wouldn't be able to stand on their pointe shoes :p it's all thin muscles

  • i'm a ballet dancer, and i agree that thin is the way to go, but not entirely sure about anorexia..

love the picture at 1.03 though =p

  • If you want to be thin then take ballet!! Don't starve you lazy asses!! You're giving ballerinas a bad name!!

  • they aren't being lazy, most girls that are anorexic also over exercise, it's not that they are so lazy that they'd rather starve than exercise. get your $h/+ straight! lol

  • @arosbear It's not that I actually meant lazy I just couldn't find a different word XD

  • lol 1:10 COMPLETELY looks like she fell right after that look at her friggin foot

  • What's the name of the song? :]

  • creep, radiohead

  • :37 is my favourite! <3

  • most of these ballet dancers are skinny/thin but definitely not anorexic...

i want to be thin like them

  • i love this video, i dance ballet, and i'm anorexic, and this kind of videos help me to continue wiht ana ;)

  • remember kids

no food --> no energy for dancing!

    simple but true

  • @TheBlueCaterpillar What would you know ? Theres a lot of pressure on us to become a certain way and that drives people to do crazy shit for the chance to live the dream.

  • I thought so. She's my face ballerina. Then Its Darcey Bussell.

  • Is that Zvetlana at 1:31?

  • Yes, she is

  • im 12 5'2 and 99 pounds. i try to gain weight but never had a big appetite is there something wrong with me?

  • @wordzscarforlife that is totally normal weight

  • no, you are a perfectly healthy weight

  • @wordzscarforlife

You're a little underweight according to BMI's but if you're seeing a doctor regularly and they aren't concerned then I woudn't worry too much about it, as long as your weight is stable and not dropping.

  • PS. And I'm not talking about "binging and purging" btw!

  • Oh come on, you can eat and still look good. I think they look beautiful but when you take it to an extreme of an eating disorder, it means that you've lost track of what's beautiful. I know so many super-skinny girls that eat all day long.

  • Most of these if not all look healthy and not disgustingly sickening!!

  • As fotos são perfeitas! apesar do esforço não consigo melhorar mt meu alongamento :/ alguém tem alguma dica?

Tmb não vejo pq uma bailarina fuma. Acho péssimo alguém fumar ainda mais uma bailarina!

  • Comment removed

  • 1:22 -- paloma herrera in don quixote! i am her BIGGEST fan.

  • they are all perfectly healthy and beautiful!

  • I don't get why any dancer would smoke. The body should be a temple and smoke would cause lack of breath and all that jazz. I would never distroy my body just to look good. I love dancing too much.

  • 1:15 is beautiful. I find it hard to control my scarf for free movement :(

  • They have the ultimate perfect body from just training hard 6 days a week.

And that is not true...I interned at a ballet company for 6 months and pretty much everyone smokes. It relieves the stress of the workouts and suppresses appetite too.

  • people are saying that ballet makes you skinny and anarexic well sorry but i wouldn't like to be a fat over weight ballet dancer! And there not skinny there the right size this isn't a very nice vidio!

  • @TheBalletstar it is a good weight for dancers but outside of the dance studio most guys arent attracted to girls with the body of a pre pubescent boy.

  • The picture at 2:13 is so unrealistic! Ballerinas DON'T smoke! EVER! If they did they wouldn't make it through one rehearsal, not even a full class.

  • That is true! but its sad cause I know some dancers that smoke, and thats very bad!

  • thats not true..my ballet teacher is a ballerina and she smokes..i don't know how she makes it but she does!!:)

  • @revolutioncomming well sweety here's the skin on that. Because us dancers are always jumping, moving, ect. our bodies release the toxins quicker than a "normal" person will. So basically even though she may smoke her body gets rid of the toxins quickly. also dancers we drink lots of fluids during our day so toxins are flushed out quicker also. an just because she smokes doesn't mean she smokes so much that she can't breathe lol

  • lots of ballerinas (and male ballet dancers) smoke. dancers of all types smoke, contradictory as it may sound

  • @thedancefreak lol I wonder if that was sarcasm. lol dancers don't smoke. well we are human and we have cravings temptations just like everyone else in the world. And although it is pefered that we don't smoke we do. Some of us are able to quit and keep dancing strong while other simply just push through it anyway but yeah dancers smoke. I don't know why but they do.

  • You cant have dancer thinspo, because dancers are skinny because they dance, it is one of the few things that alow you to build muscle yet remain so thin

  • sadly, that's not true. I'm a dancer with an eating disorder and I know several others.

  • "Thin" is ok - if it means "healthy" too. Anorexia is sick and skelletons can´t dance anymore...

I love dancing too and I think it doesnt matter what colour or religion or even weight you have... in dance and music all people are related:)

  • agreed. if you see photos of anorexic women, you'll notice that they have little muscle mass. you see only bones because lack of eating begins to break down the muscles. these photos show healthy muscle tone on slender frames which aligns with the ballet aesthetic, and as any other physical body aligns with it's function

  • Quelle est cette musique svp? merci bcp

  • "Creep" by Radiohead

  • these dancers look like proper ballerinas, they are the pefect size

  • those dancers in the video look just fine.

  • lo bello es la linea del movimiento, no la de la espina dorsal

  • You can't be a professional dancer and have an eating disorder. Ballet is incredibly difficult, and one can NOT do it without proper energy.

Hollywood dancers have eating disorders because they only need to look "perfect." Ballet dancers can't afford such a thing.

  • Watch these girls, they are REAL creeps.

    .com/watch?v=UMJorfZpAiE

  • omg 0:47 is amazing

  • im a ballet dancer i do other genres as well when i have to but im mostly ballet and im about 5'4 or a little taller and weigh 125 thats small but not super skinny ..they're right we eat but we use it up dancing soo much but you dont have to be super skinny to do dance

  • im not skinny and im a dancer umm hello its normal its ok to be skinny or be big(in muscle) like wev all said here we eat alot because we have large energy requirements and like most of my energy is burned during a class or a perfromance anywaiz its all good

  • I'm a dancer too, and I eat a LOT, and I'm pretty skinny. I agree, this is spreading a poor messege, and it needs to be taken down. Anyone who claims that dancers all have eating disorders is just jealous that they can't be as skinny but still eat so much!!!

  • I'm a dancer, and I can tell you, probably about 99% of dancers don't have eating disorders, if not all of them.

The reason that dancers are so skinny is because we burn so much weight AND because we have to eat, and eat well, to keep up the energy to dance.

A lot of dancers work out and lift weights too.

Like I said before, we don't have eating disorders. This is sending out a bad message, could you please take it down?

  • I agree. Ballet dancers have to make their performances look effortless. In order to do that, an enormous amount of strength is required. That level of muscle control needs fuel... a lot of it.

Unfortunately there are girls that aspire to have an eating disorder. But no amount of starving themselves will ever make them look like these dancers. These physiques are achieved through hard work and a HEALTHY lifestyle.

  • I think you should take this video down! It's spreading a misconception that ballerinas have eating disorders. Ballet takes a lot of hard work and dedication, and dancers have to eat well to have enough energy. This is completely unfair, untrue and is spreading a negative message to aspiring young dancers.

  • As someone who has gone through eating disorder symptoms and as someone who is a huge admirer of dance and has just begun it. I'm shocked the person who made this video is giving people who do suffer from eating disorders a false idea that these women have eating disorders and that it really takes a lot of work to have the abiltiy to put ones body in the different dance postitions. I believe that most ballerinas are not under weight because muscle weighs more than fat, take it off the web plz

  • I don't think you're able to have a ED when you're a dancer. It takes a lot of energy to dance, so you will have to eat, otherwise you won't be able to keep up with the rest.

  • im a ballerina myself and none of the people i dance with are

anorexic! actually they eat quite a bit!! ballerinas are very muscular but very toned and they work very hard.

  • I'm a former professional ballet dancer who still dances and I take very good care of my body. I'm insulted and offended that some kid on the internet is using the healthy bodies of people who work very hard and have a lot of talent in this manner. We are not "inspiration" for people with ED's. I'm sure every person in this video would be offended, as well. We are much healthier than the average person. I do NOT encourage ED's in any way, shape or form.

  • @flapjackballet i completely agree! u dont accuse marathon runners or athletes or gymnasts or personal trainers for being ED 'inspiration' - thats just stupid. ballet makes u thin and toned- its not an image thing- anyone who did enough ballet would be fit and toned because its actually extremly hard and intense- duh

  • @flapjackballet i totally agree with you!

im 16 and im training to become either a dance teacher or a professional ballet dancer. i hate it when people make us feel that we are thinsoprations for people with eating disorders. EDs are not encouarged in ballet. what is encouarged is grace, elegance, strentgh, beauty and poise. i hate it when people describe dancers as skinny or stick-thin. because we are not, we are STRONG AND POWERFUL people.

  • @flapjackballet Who said anything about this being used for "inspiration"?

  • @flapjackballet In fact, if you look at this user's profile, the majority of the 25-year-old's (not "some kid") vids are about AVOIDING self-mutilation and self-inflicting harm. Maybe you're just a bit quick to jump the gun.

  • @AcemanJones

When the title is called "thinspo" and there are videos just like this one that encourage this behavior all over the internet, I, along with many other people, am skeptical. And we have a valid reason to feel that way. I don't care what the other videos have to say, this one is damaging to girls out there.

  • @flapjackballet I think you're mixing up your feelings about this issue with your thoughts about this video. Feelings and thoughts are two different things.

  • @AcemanJones

I'm sure you're right to an extent, to be honest with you, I think it's impossible not to do that. This is a very touchy subject. A lot of us dancers are defensive about this topic because we are sick and tired of seeing our lifelong efforts, hard work and respect towards our bodies ridiculed as "weak" or "sissy" and turned into ammunition that encourages others to hurt themselves. It damages our reputation and it uses our art in a way that goes against its principles.

  • @flapjackballet I think you're personalizing a lot, too. I'm a professional and while I empathize, I'm able to keep my feelings and emotions in control and in check.

  • what???

  • ballet thinspo is my favorite!!

  • i agree with xox1jonas1xox

i mean just listen to the song...

not any real inspiration there. and I'm a professional dancer and i can say ballerinas are annos no matter what they think they eat.

    but I love radiohead :P

  • mmm radiohead

  • 3:23 is vanessa carlton, i think

cuz i searched her name once on google and that picture came up

her song "white houses" talks about some of her dancing

  • I don't understand why you would make a video of thinsperation for young ballerinas to look at. You are encouraging them to be as thin as the people in these pictures. You should be inspiring them to be the best ballerina in the body they have. Ballerinas do not have to be stick thin. They have to be muscular and toned. I think you should take this down.

  • Um those ballerinas are toned and muscular. Muscualr doens't nesseccarily mean having a body builder figure.

  • nice bodies ;))

  • um hey... im a ballerina and im not anerexic. um yeah none are. then you dbe too unhealthy to dance

actually we all eat like fatasses cuz we burn so much

  • Where do you dance... cause in my world, things are really not that easy!

  • miami, and im currently eating a nice boston creme donut :) yum

  • It's strange you said that because I live in Boston. And you are lucky you can stuff your face and not become disgustingly and inhumanely large.

And you're lucky you live in Miami... :)

  • I wouldn't say NONE are. True, most dancers eat healthy but there are some with ED's

  • I love balleT anD I think they all have great bodies and amazinG movementS :)

  • most of those girls did not look anorexic at all. I have a great friend in my ballet class who is liek 5 foot 4 ish and shes liek 88 lbs. she eats more than any one i know. before rehearsal shell have like half a pizza and a bagel. some people just have fast metabolisms

  • same thing with me.and when i grow i stretch out even more.

  • exactlyyy

  • LUCKY I'm 5 foot and weigh around 100. I exercise 2 hours a day and eat really healthy and can't seem to lose weight.

  • @Musicalpiglet You must be really thin!! What's wrong with you??

  • @Musicalpiglet

You don't need to lose any weight. If you're 5 foot and weight 100 pounds, that's a healthy weight.

  • I did once have a fast metabolism. And it is important for dancers to eat well. Your friend should still be careful later on because once she stops growing around 23, and she doens't change her eating habits, all that food will catch up to her. Not saying she can't enjoy pizza and bagels now. But just saying for later reference. I'm 25 now,I lost my dancer figure after I stopped growing. I ate desserts and second helpings all the time, too. And you can't jump high when your 20lbs overweight.

  • they arent tooo skinny..

  • Just beautiful... *_*

  • I wish more English boys would do ballet. My boyfriend has unbelievable feet. The instep is impossibly high and his foot is so flexible it can bend almost in half. Even in repose his feet form a natural arch. He has long legs too and altogether I'm sure would have made a dancer. But, what? a boy do ballet? Are you a poof or something?'Ere, John wants to do ballet! John's a big girl!

How many working-class boys ever get past that? Why can't ppl see ballet as tough? It is!

  • that is not anorexic...i do ballet and half of the girls in my class are like that but they aren't anorexic, they are all healthy...

  • what is this song?

  • creep by radiohead

  • pointe shoes make me horney......

  • some are very pretty, but some are just bones :S
