@bryce995 1)Because there is an extra level of seating in the airplane in that hump - and 2) Cause it looks GREAT!!!! It is not the regular cigar shaped airplane - The 747 has been The Queen of the skies - for over 50 years!!!!!!!!

@bryce995 It is Business class seating - nice paded chairs that slide back into a bed - and PLENTY of room - there is only about 50 seats in the top deck - you go up a set of stairs to get there - and it is as fine as you can get!!! I flew LA to Hong Kong (14 hours) on Cathay Pacific 747 and the stewardess were VERY nice, very freindly - and very pretty!!!! Hot towels - nice food and silverware and electrical outlets! And each seat has a TV with about 30 channels. EASY to get used to this!!!!

@CanadianJewel Delta has scrapped the entire freighter fleet. They were all old 747-200's, very, very well worn. In the current economy, it apparently wasn't rational to replace them. I guess they figure they have enough unused "underfloor" capacity in their passenger jets to compensate.

@Scope951 i grew up with my house being under the flight path for a naval air station. after a while, you tune the planes out. the only times it would bug you, would be on the rare occasions when the planes came in too low, or when the blue angels were in town. but, you did get to see the blue angels for free.

THAT is an old video - they closed Kai Tak - 10 or 12 years ago!! The new Hong Kong Airport is on an island - and does not have those WORLD WIDE KNOWN crosswinds - and water on 3 sides!!!!!!!

Yes - the airport was very small - and the Chinese made an entire island an very large and beautiful airport!! And the cross winds at Kai Tak were world wide know as vicious - EVERY pilot hated to land there!!!

yes, a fully loaded 747 is capable of making a 20 degree climb up to a certain altitude (varies alot, 2,000ft to 5,000ft) then eases off to gain altitude - thats why sometimes you feel the aircraft lowering its angle of climb a bit after takeoff when you fly in an airliner

i guess the plane could have weighed less than other 747 cargo mashines, because it was not coloured... the colour itself weights a lot if you put it on such a huge plane, but this one was rarely coloured, expect for the tail and small area in the front... i can imagine they saved a few tons with that
