I bought a copy of Howl Howl Gaff Gaff in a CD player at a yard sale. Never gave it a good listen... I might have to go find that CD, This sounds pretty decent to me. (I found this from a related video, "Are You Receiving Me" by XTC)
If this guy had on some white foundation and black lipstick and guy-liner and his hair was longer and he multiplied his weight times, something like, 30 years of McDonald's, then I would swear that I was watching a new The Cure video. The Cure rocks...love 'em!
C'mon guys. They do sound very much like The Cure in this song. If that guy's voice sounded a BIT more like Robert Smith's, I could totally believe it was them.
But either way. The Shout Out Louds have got goddamn talent. So they sound like The Cure. I love The Cure! It ain't like it's a problem. And it's a completely original song, just with similar sounds. I really need one of these guys' CDs, like STAT.
As a rabid The Cure fan, I must say that calling Shout Out Louds a ripoff of The Cure is ridiculous. They have a similar sound in THIS song, and that's not a crime.
@Anhaaah haaha jag letade efter den i typ 2 år :P har älskat den sedan den kom ut 2007 då jag såg videon på tv en löradg morgon, sedan fan jag den typ mitten av 2008. Och nu gör mitt band ett fett cover på den
@fendergambit... there most certainly is a cure sound... but the shout out louds are fun, and they definitely have their own niche... listen to more than just this one track...
@djb82 the part where they sing "and you give love"...that doesn't sound like 'and you give and you give and you give your heart away" from U2's "With or without you"? Sounds very similar to me!!!!!! I grew up in that era so I think I know what I'm talking about.
@fendergambit it actually sounds more like freddie mercury n queen (under pressure)...but if you know enough about music, everyone sounds like someone at some point. good song!
@Khooper38 Yes let the music stand for itself. But the ironic thing about that statement is that the music is such a rip off of an earlier band called "the cure". It's not there music...it's someone else's.
I didn't know the Cure wrote this song. Coulda sworn it was on a Shout Out Louds record with songwriting credits to the Shout out Louds. Sure, his voice sounds a bit like the Robert's. But...so?
@fendergambit haha omfg, do you really hate this band, or do u just think that ur cool and know much about music when write this critical shit? Of course u have to get some inspiration before u can start a band or do music

The issue with this song is it's too much like The Cure, take elements and move forward, evolve a new style, but this brings nothing new to the table. I said it's a shame because I genuinely wanted something good from it, it's catchy. I wait with interest to see what they do next. We're all entitled to our own opinions, that's the joy of music, there is no reason to get het up, I'm sure the band wouldn't!
Puff, you've at least twice dropped that you work in the industry and then say we're all entitled to our opinions. You just want to make sure we all know YOU think your opinion is more qualified... WhenenRome, I had only mentioned my work once, I believe that all opinions are valid if a person qualifies their argument, I was responding to someone else who just thought "dickhead" qualified their argument. Every decade has artists that evolve to a new genre, evolve doesn't mean use everything someone else does, you borrow elements. This track as others have said, is too much like The Cure, they may have well done a Cure cover, but as I said, I do look forward to hearing what else they do.
I really appreciate the patronage - didn't realize that, being a fan of, among others, Emil Gilels, Fela Kuti and Stina Nordenstam, I "keep to the same tipe of music".
Re your pompous and banal sermon on the dynamic nature of music - all very well, but the truly gifted artists, while stealing and borrowing, incorporate it all into a musical vision of their own. these guys are just don't have what it takes
For someone that doesn´t like this song, you come here often.
I really don´t think that you have what it takes to understand the style of this music... Keep to your Cure idols and stop making fun of new bands that star their carrier takin in influences.
Just a reminder, the Cure also had some influences, therefor they could be a rip of some other band. Remember that before you shoot your own foot...
god you're funny. I love the accusations re me idolizing Fat Bob, nothing could be further from the truth, and the rest of your crap is right on the same level
sure Cure had loads of influences - Hendrix, Beatles, Beefheart, Nick Drake, Bowie, the list goes on. but when 10.15 came out everyone had the "haven't heard THAT before" feeling, cause it was a singular piece of music, incorporating familiar elements in a shockingly new fashion
keep patronizing me to your heart's content, I don't mind. being a barely articulate retard yourself, it's only natural for you to assume stupidity in others and try to enlighten them
well, when people start offending it means they don´t know anything else to say, therefore my dialogue with you stops here. I should of know better, radicals and extremists are all the same... Keeps to the Cure and be happy...
"I should of know" - LOL, two hilarious blunders that testify to your lack of command of the English language
I said a great deal more than (justifiably) calling you an inarticulate retard, you managed to find the easy way to quit on a superior note, congrats mate
Sure, I'll stick to The Cure, Brahms, Pixies, Kate Bush, Prokofiev, Schuman, Can, QOTSA, Tom Waits and Saint Etienne. you have fun with Linkin Park and whatever other oafish 6th rate bands you love. try good charlotte and oasis
Haven't you ever made a mistake? Well then you must be God...
An while you at ir you might as well get a life instead of finding videos to criticize on youtube... Don´t like this videos, just click on the cross on the top left croner of the window.
there is a crucial difference between making a mistake and showing zero awareness of the grammar of the language you're writing in
for sure I make mistakes aplenty, but patronizing people smarter than myself cause their opinion is different from mine never was one of them
someone sent me the link, I used the 'comment' option; someone replied to my comment - I went to this page and saw your pathetic reply, and posted my reply to it. whether you have a problem with this I don't give a shit
A poor imitation of The Cure... but with a Swedish accent.
So much of this Cure influenced music these days but none of these bands hit the spot like The Cure. Shame... come on guys, if you're going to do it, do it well!
Wow aren't we aggressive! It's a valid opinion from someone who works within the industry. They admit that The Cure are a very strong influence, but sadly this track is just pure Cure, I want to here more of who the Shout Out Louds are, and not who they idolise, and I look forward to it. I'm sure there is more to them, but I can still have an opinion on this track, as can you, calling me a dickhead is a little silly and childish and doesn't really bolster your argument.
I have to disagree with your overall criticism of Shout Out Louds being a ''poor imitation of The Cure.'' It shouldn't be a slight against them that they ''admit'' (it's not really an admission, it's a compliment) their sound is inspired by The Cure. In the face of overall CRAPPY music coming out of the industry (which you say you work for), it's actually refreshing to hear a new take on a classic sound. I'd easily welcome more new bands that did the same.
I would never be so silly to describe Fergie or American Idol as new, I despise mass manufactured music, I work mainly with British and European Indie bands and please don't lump me with a generic industry type, you don't even know what I do, I hate that side of the "Industry" as much as you!
It is a Cure rip, as much as people want to argue otherwise. Same dizzy heights of plagiarism shared by The Hoosiers and Black Kids. At least a few years ago Hot Hot Heat and Stellastarr* had some subtlety - they may have borrowed Bob's voice but were kind enough to not rape In Between Days.
I'm here to try and here if this guy has one of those speech impediments that sound like too much saliva between the teeth and cheek.
Hearing him sing 'egshachkly' makes me want to hear him do 'sausages'.
Yea, I'm sorry but this sounds nothing like the Cure. Neither does anything else on their album. If you make the comparison simply based on it's retro-new-wave sound... then a lot of new bands "sound like" the Cure; Coldplay for instance... This just happens to be the Swedish Pop sound! And I, for one, LOVE IT!
Not really sure why a comparison to The Cure is incorrect, or even a bad thing. The similarities in chord progression and rhythm are definitely there and you can tell they have definitely had an influence on the Shout Out Louds music. For example, the rhythm in this song is reminiscent of "In Between Days".
ooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhh the cure or shout of loud?????????????

well, when people start offending it means they don´t know anything else to say, therefore my dialogue with you stops here.

Don´t like this videos, just click on the cross on the top left croner of the window.

there is a crucial difference between making a mistake and showing zero awareness of the grammar of the language you're writing in
for sure I make mistakes aplenty, but patronizing people smarter than myself cause their opinion is different from mine never was one of them
someone sent me the link, I used the 'comment' option; someone replied to my comment - I went to this page and saw your pathetic reply, and posted my reply to it. whether you have a problem with this I don't give a shit

i wish people wouldn't start saying they're trying to copy the Cure, coz they aren't! the Cure may have been an inspiration, but it's different...

wow, this is totally shameless. 4th rate Cure, but the accent is hilarious, taking it into the *so bad it's good* territory

I thought it was 1st rate Cure!

A poor imitation of The Cure... but with a Swedish accent.
So much of this Cure influenced music these days but none of these bands hit the spot like The Cure. Shame... come on guys, if you're going to do it, do it well!
;P

Might be a poor imitation of Cure because its not an imitation at all dickhead.
tralfamadore0143 3 years ago
Wow aren't we aggressive! It's a valid opinion from someone who works within the industry. They admit that The Cure are a very strong influence, but sadly this track is just pure Cure, I want to here more of who the Shout Out Louds are, and not who they idolise, and I look forward to it. I'm sure there is more to them, but I can still have an opinion on this track, as can you, calling me a dickhead is a little silly and childish and doesn't really bolster your argument.
pufftails 3 years ago

Hearing him sing 'egshachkly' makes me want to hear him do 'sausages'.

i was actually calling someone a few comments below you gay. and i like gay people. i meant gay in its original "happy" sense.
mzungu420 3 years ago
"mzungu420 has replied to your comment", that's you right? "uh, you are gay."

i do think this song defiantly sounds like the cure.you can tell they are a big influence. the rest of their songs sound less cureish though.

sounds like the fuckin cure
reballare 3 years ago 3
Yea, I'm sorry but this sounds nothing like the Cure. Neither does anything else on their album. If you make the comparison simply based on it's retro-new-wave sound... then a lot of new bands "sound like" the Cure; Coldplay for instance... This just happens to be the Swedish Pop sound! And I, for one, LOVE IT!
mzungu420 3 years ago
Not really sure why a comparison to The Cure is incorrect, or even a bad thing. The similarities in chord progression and rhythm are definitely there and you can tell they have definitely had an influence on the Shout Out Louds music. For example, the rhythm in this song is reminiscent of "In Between Days".
