  • Awesome cartoons

  • wow this isn't even a lil racist...unlike merry melodies!

  • TOO. MUCH. CUTENESS. MUST. CALL. LIBERTY MEDICAL.

  • I have been looking for this for so long!!!! <3

  • @2:13 Awww, we can't see his wee-wee! :)

  • I really enjoyed this. Thanks x

  • Classic, thanks for uploading.

  • Stunning animation.

  • this was my favorite cartoon growing up :]

  • i like your video pretty awesome =)) keep it up

  • How can anybody not like that little cartoon? That story is so universal:

a little boy thinking he is the big man and everything he does proves that he is only a little boy

    Who cannot relate to that?

  • Little Hiawatha looks a bit like Mowgli from Walt Disney's Jungle Book. :/

Still, this cartoon's pretty enjoyable! :3

  • OMG I used to watch it all the time, because it was at the end of this vhs tape me and my sister had

  • I live in Hiawatha Kansas and I have never seen this video.

(oh and we pronounce Hiawatha with a long "I" sound rather than an "E" sound)

  • scary movie 2 turkey scene brought me here LOL >.<

  • Little hiawatha isnt actually all that old to me theres new comics about him almost weekly where I live!

  • NO ITS FINE we can just die of starvation

  • Hehe! It was killing me I couldn't think of the name of this cartoon! But I specifically remembered the boat and water and finally it came to my head! Little Hiawatha! I used to laugh about his butt when this was paired with a Pocahontas VHS. Good times, lol.

  • Hiawatha needs a belt ^_^

  • Awwwwww, that was soooooo cute :)

My horse is called Hiawatha :) bit she's a girl :)

  • I almost positive that everyone wants the old cartoons aired back on tv. Why the hell don't they just do it? I'm sure if they had a channel with all the old Disney cartoons on it people would pay extra to get that channel.....sometimes I don't think people are too wrapped up in the future to remember and appreciate the past.

  • Cuuuuute!

  • This was always my favorite ^-^ even as a little kid ^-^

  • I remember when these came on /the/ Disney channel before I went to school. Good times. :)

  • Jesus is lord, this great vid

  • Moral of the story: BUY A BELT!!!

  • ...and this was the very first version of brother bear^^

    love it! ^_^

  • When animation was an art........

  • poor little bunny.... could have been a delicious stew. haha

  • I remembering watching this in Daycare and all the kids laughed when his shorts would fall down.

  • Boy, that bear sure was determined to get that little boy. lol

  • 2:12 ahaha hiawathas bum!

  • in my city...many of the local youths run around with their pants falling down, trying to shoot each other. Disney was ahead of his time.

  • I'm afraid I'm going vegan after watching this. And I'm 22 years old.

  • just precious!! thanx for sharing this .

  • that cricket was the size of the kids head! lol

  • Seriously, there is NOTHING INSENSITIVE about this cartoon. My God the times are crazy! CRAZY, I tell you!

What the hell could ANYONE find offensive about a cute cartoon about a cute little native boy?

  • These would be "politically incorrect" in today's absurd world.

  • 1:32 = Tiki Room

  • great

  • oh my gosh that short was so cute xDD

  • Ah, to have real animation again!

  • It's kinda ironic that I happened across this video a couple of days ago just when I was copying the Finnish translation of The Song of Hiawatha to my computer. Old as it is (98 years & only one edition was ever made), the Finnish translation is, in a poetic sense, a "return" translation. It was, after all, the German translation of the Finnish national epic Kalevala where Longfellow borrowed trochaic tetrameter from.

  • I remember I used to watch this w/ my daddy! (I had it on tape)

  • My parents would have me watch these toons to put me to sleep when I was little, and its funny because watching this just now really made me want to pass out! =]

  • 1:54 ballsack lol

  • these short Disney wordless cartoons were my absolute favourites, I had a tape with a collection of them, but I lost it... Now I found most of them here, what a joy! God bless Youtube c:

  • nice i like it

  • politically correct is relative.

  • Me and my mom are HUGE fans of Little Hiawatha....especially my mom, this was always her favorite little cartoon of all time. :)

  • AAAAWWWWWW, Little Hiawatha fell victim to the Big Bunny Eyes!!! Cuteness can not kill fellow cuteness!!!

  • old cartoons are so good compaird to these days

  • @gza123456789 totally agree

  • @gza123456789 I think you mean, "compared", not "compaird". And "tasteless", not "good".

  • That rabbit is the cuuuutest!

  • It's interesting to read the stories of Hiawatha written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and then watch this little animation. Not quite the same story at all, but this is slightly more appropriate for kids lol

  • This is great, Thank you!

  • There's nothing wrong with acknowledging the insensitivity some of these cartoons and still enjoy watching them.

  • super cute and funny

  • awwe, karma, its good for u.

  • 6:20 Little Hiawatha has no dingle dangle :D

  • how cute! :)

  • man to be young again and experiance disney golden days when thes were on tv

  • a child's bare behind was considered adorable back then, why do people make a big deal and call it pedo?!!!! stupid i swear

nice that disney took the effort to research native words for the animals

the fawn was my fav animal in this short ^_^

  • The last Silly Symphony to be distributed by UA

  • I remember watching this in music class in elementary school!! I have always enjoyed it!!

  • Ah, good ol' fashion family racism.

  • @CrawdaddyJoe

Yeah, but it does not beat Dumbo;)

  • eventhough its politically incorrect its just so darn cute

  • @pbcrazy1 its politically incorrect because the indian isnt black has a big cock and is not worshipped by whites and sympathized with because of his "struggles".

  • i love those old animation

they are more beautiful than the newest ones !!!

    X.Devil

  • LOVE IT

  • my grandma used to read this book to me all the time

  • I have to admit that this was extremely good, and excellent, even though I am 14. ^-^

  • i love this cartoon

i'm native american and i love the stereo types

  • pral007

    that is hilarious

  • kid will you quit flashing the wilderness!

  • haha were those the christmas critters from south park?

  • @pral007 omg i remember the christmas criiters XD RUN LITTLE HIAWATHA!!!

  • dang there are alot of butt shots and some very strange contortions in this. my kid said 'oh that 's not right' lol the art is beautiful the backgrounds so detailed and lovely, it is real art. it makes nick and modern cartoons look like the computer generated crap that they are.

  • this boat has the flag of japan?ok,the native americans come from asia by any way.

  • @ryu174 agree

  • Wow, I watched this so many times as a kid.

I always felt bad for the baby rabbit when it looked like he was about to shoot it.

  • I had a version of this as a child but not the disney version and the one i had was much better!

  • I remember this!!!This was a special short cartoon in the end of the movie pocahontas 2!!!I used to watch this all the time!!!!<3

  • A young Druid.

  • My favorite.............................

  • that little Hiawatha was the cutest thing!But.. why does he keep a spare bow and arrow with his balls?! :S

  • extremly cute!!!! but what does he mean the little hiawatha???

  • Truly a parody of the Song of Hiawatha. In the story, Hiawatha is almost flawless and invincible.

  • Thank you for posting the cartoon Little Hiawatha

  • thanks for posting this, when i was little i watched this all the time but when i moved i couldn't figure out what it was called and then i accidentally came upon this and i was so happy.

  • omg i just love disney animals like this! ^_^ they r so freaken cute! i love the bunny!

  • And people wonder where the idea of "Chibi" came from. It came from Disney!

  • funny and cute :)

  • so cute ^_^

  • So cute, although I had the storybook growing up and this story is nothing like it, but it was still realllllllllllllllly cute :) Thanks.

  • I had the same book (he was trying to catch a big fish with a rope). so nostalgic!

  • i don't remember this one at all

  • If I learned anything out of this cartoon it was this...

...apparently Indians during the time didn't make very good pants for tiny blokes like him...

I mean, look at all the time his failpants fell?!

  • And how old is this kid anyway? Should he really be in the woods by himself if he can't even keep his pants up, let alone fire an arrow?

  • Actually, this cartoon has NOTHING to do with Aboriginal people. In fact it is both racist and ignorant. But purely for entertainment sake. I can't expect a Euro to know much about that anyways.

  • cute bunny rabbit!

  • those bunnies look so snugly! i just want to pet them. how cute!!!

  • man, that bear wanted him bad.

  • So good

  • hahahaha that beavers by the end

  • I love it

  • i used to watch this all the time!!! they played this at the Disney resorts!... nothing beats the classics <3

  • So Little Hiawatha ended the day with a empty stomach...

  • ... yet full of joy and love ^_^

  • Disney cartoons back then were great. Now the cartoons make no sense and are only ment for preschoolers.

  • @TheGuitarMaster92 Absolutely true!

  • @TheGuitarMaster92

I disagree....preschoolers are smarter than cartoons these days

  • @TheGuitarMaster92 either that or their horribly innapropriate :c

  • @TheGuitarMaster92 *meant. Maybe you could have used a little less cartoons and a little more preschool.

  • lil guy needs a belt. great post! no matter how old i get, i'll always love Disney!

  • ahhh...nostalgic :)

  • Thank you for download this cartoon I enjoy some much again. I see was a long time ago and I like some much. Thank you very much.

  • Why can't they make movies like this anymore?

    :)

    Love the old disney classics.

    I miss them :)

  • haha this was on all the time when i was at Disney World like 2 years ago, on that channel that plays all old disney cartoons

  • The bear in this cartoon resembles another bear that disney made years ago. Does anyone know the title of that short video?

  • im not sure but i kno they also used the design of the bears face for a wolf 2 4 a lil red riding hood short

  • You thinking of Bongo? the short from Fun and Fancy Free?

  • i used to love this cartoon... its not as great as i last remembered... suppose i just grew up. :(

  • i wonder if that cute bunny grown up to be the mighty bugs bunny we know today

LOL hesss so cute, who could be so heartless to shooot that cutie

  • I remember this!!!!! THANK YOU FOR POSTING IT!!!!!!!!! It brought back so many happy memories! ;-)

  • is it just me or does he look like a wee rafael nadal ?

  • Man..Disney sure loved the pants drop gag didn't he?

In all honesty this was one of my favorites as a kid. Good to see it again.

  • this is so cute. we are starting to call my little brother Little Hiawatha just as a fun nickname. i was thinking about how i used to love this little cartoon when i was little. i never knew what they were saying or what was happening but i guess i loved it because of the animal friends and the fact that it was colourful ;) and now that i watch it im like oh ha i get it :]]] and i love this! gah i need to go to bed, im tired. just getting kicked out of the mall then watching this is nice. XDD !!

  • ha ha ha hes soo cute

  • Dang.......somebody get that kid a belt! Great vid 5/5

  • all animals are so cute ^^

  • can u spell awesome?

    A-W-E-S-O-M-E

  • They should really make cartoons like this nowadays, the hand drawn effect is beautiful.

  • love his little dance

  • ooooh! I remember watching this on TV and on the Disney Channel, (when the Disney Channel was "THE Disney Channel". I love it!

  • Next time he will remember to put on a belt!

  • i remember watching this in my disney hotel...

  • i remember watching this on TV

  • .....and he is extremely bowlegged hhaaha

  • Nothing wrong with this cartoon. I'm sick of these Politically Correct wimps finding every little thing offensive.

  • Well, me coming from a native American background this is actually one of our legends, and very accurately portrayed . So, I'm totally cool with it.

  • i would love to hear about the legand this relates to. the animals helping man?

  • @Fangirlobsess Did the legendary Hiawatha's pants always fall down too?

  • Agreed. It's staggering to think this came out in 1937 - that's 72 years ago! They knew how to make 'em then - the quality of the backgrounds and attention to detail is still unrivalled now.

  • uh...there are a few things wrong with it. It's not the worst, certainly. I'm sorry you'd rather offend people without getting called on it, but the whole bit at 3:29 is generally understood to be a dumb thing to do when portraying Native people. It's not completely offensive, but....come on, you can see why it's not exactly 100% respectful. It's okay to acknowledge there are slightly offensive elements in an old cartoon, it doesn't disregard the entire thing.

  • @FRDEIGER

Just imagine some foreign culture showing the American culture by a cartoon with big-nose-people let's say all looking like J.R. Ewing, having excess weight, standing in front of giant fridges, eating steaks all the time and drivin' by car to the bathroom.

Yes, there are worse things to stereotypes. But to decide they are ok means to ignore the opinion of those that ARE portrayed. It's not respectful. And we could need more respect in this world. And Humanity, Heart and Brain! Amen.

  • @FRDEIGER Yeah. They complain about classics like this.....but mindless garbage like Spongebob Squarepants is okay?

    WTF?

  • oh my God, these little characters are beautiful!!!! Please come back! :)

  • classic!

  • lol he just pulled an arrow and a bow out of his pants

  • I grew up with this...but there was no narrator in that one. =S no voices at all :S

  • The beginning is from the poem "Little Hiawatha" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

  • The Song of Hiawatha

  • This brings back sooo many memories!

  • Really cool blast from the past :) Thanks for uploading.

I think parents should be wary before showing this to kids, though. It contains some nasty stereotypes (such as Hiawatha dancing and whooping).

  • WOW. I hope you dont have children. And if you do, what are you going to tell them to do when they want to play cowboys and indians? Or cops and robbers? And you better take those barbies away, they might grow up to think all women are mutes and made of plastic. Don't let them watch T.V., they make think the world is a better place than it is. Better yet, take them to a traditional Native American Celebration, and let them see the dances in person..

  • It isn't a stereotype if its true.

Native American's do that, just not ALL the time.

The bad stereotype is the "ugh" and pidgin speak they give them.

  • lol this thing never gets old

  • Thanks for uploading this!!!

  • this kid needs a belt lol

  • 3:56 - From this point on, Little Hiawatha became a vegetarian.

  • love him giving the rabbit a bow, reflects the way humans think.

  • 3:25 lol

  • cute

  • i'm full north native american i know what this means i'm gald my grandaprents took out on the land and tought me many this about nature and how to repect the earth animals etc so i'm pround to be native

  • Whaha his pants is to big

  • This was always my favorite silly symphony.

  • the thing is that everybody should leave the past in the past, and learn from the mistakes that were committed, and do not let it happen again, the world could be a better place if we put the resentment to the side, and enjoy life since is too darn short. peace to all

  • Poor little baby bunny...T_T

  • yah

and that bunny is soooo cuteee

  • I watched this 3 times in a row with my nephew today and im sure when he comes over again he will be asking for it,lol. Thanks for posting.

  • Isn't this that poem Lucy from I love Lucy used to recite all the time?

  • Its funny how white man has come a long way from commiting genocide to making cartoons and putting native faces on coins and making us thier sports masscots this cartoon is a insult against me and all native people. you couldn't even spell Hayewatha right.

  • Whaaa..Whaaa...

  • I feel somewhat of your pain HAYEWATHA, i myself think its not right but at the same time I like this show. I may only be not even half native american but i understand what my other ancestors did and I do not agree with them. Even if i am only alittle native american i cherish it more than the "white" side of my ancestor history.

  • thank u

  • oh puhleeez!! Anyway, What's wrong with a sports mascot? It's supposed to represent all these positive aspects of winning a game. Is a - ahem - native american style mascot OK for lacrosse?

  • this guy makes a good point. most effective genocide in history, period. people forget, or are made to forget.

  • It's often more effective to ask people to forget then it is to ask the victims to forgive.
