To be fair, killing Boudica is the kind of tactic I use in RTW - and needless to say, for narrative purposes, I would kill her with Seutonius and his bodyguard.
Wow, this guys are idiots, and then the one host calling that one person a military genius because she wants a hill advantage?!?! That is something that everyone should know, hill advantages win battles. This is a disgrace to the Ancient Romans.
@xtron1234 They made this show long before the game was actually out. So I think they didn't want to really make it public that they were using this video game.
Sad i tried this with a friend i was the romans and i won all i did was make my army seem small hid the cohorts in the forest leaveing my less expeinced troop to fool the enemy to charge and also my cav hid so when the enemy enterd my view i waited for them to walk right into my trap the hidden units ambushed and hit them in the back while my other troops hit in the front leaving his 60000 man army in ruins but it was hard he routed my frontline "Roma Victora"
people should make new episodes themselves, this show was great and now that rome total war is easy and cheap to get hold of it could easily be replicated
This used to be my favourite show on TV until they stopped it. Not sure why but thanks awefully for uploading it. If I remember correctly the teams nearly always lost.
What I dont like about Time Commanders is that its a bunch of people commanding. The real battles had one commander. Other than that I love Time commanders.
@SlyDessertFox They should have one General and two captains. Or at least call the second General "Strategist". That would maintain the importance of communication.
There's a great tie-in book that came out at the time - "Time Commanders: Great Battles of the Ancient World". Lots of background and analysis of the actual battles. You can still get it new on Amazon, cheap (mind you I got mine as a present, so I'm not complaining!). It's illustrated with 'stills' from the programme, some as if at close-quarters, and some 'helicopter views' showing the battle formations.
Boudicca did worse than this lot - 80,000 Britons dead, vs. 400 Romans (+400 wounded).
Everyone on this show misinterprets the purpose of the host. He's harsh and blunt, yeah, but if you watch carefully, you can see all he tries to do is elicit action or decision from the guests. Like, with the woman general, Joe. He asks what they're gonna do, she says stand their ground; he then asks if they're gonna let the britons come to them, which she misinterprets as criticism and becomes all indecisive.
The generals are really dumb! What I would've done is used the weakest but huge in number as a meat shield for my army and atleast hide your calvary in the woods xD
Ha, I don't know if anyone else felt this, but the number of wrong and stupid things these people did and said almost caused me physical pain when watching it.
@tceBansai I suppose thats the appeal of the show. So that RTW players can watch a bunch of clueless wankers screw up and cringe throughout the battle. I'm terrible at the game but even I could do better than these jokers. That 1 general's initial plan was so suicidal I couldn't stop laughing. "We'll split our massively outnumbered army into small, isolated groups and have them charge off the highground!! That's sure to win us the battle!!" O_O
Man, they were bad. Never mind the strategic errors, they never got a command structure going. Evereyone's shouting, nobody's listening, it gave me a headache.....
I've never noticed that they actually used the music from RTW in the show. By the way, the expert with the curly hair, Aryeh Nusbacher, is now named Lynette.
@BloodiestMargie i think you will get alot more views in the following days, a guy named "BlueZephos" or something, mentioned this show while he was playing shogun 2, he has 213,000 subs
@BloodiestMargie I know alot of rom, in fact I play it... But when people march there roman troops in testudo is actually bad... Roman only do that when there taking fire...+ it also helps your troops if you put your general next to your troops, give you morale boost, cause who would wanna retreat when a general is watching you fight lol..
This team are retarded. Who the hell gives up the high ground and leaves archers exposed in a thin line on the flanks? They were too focused on killing Boudicca near the end, when the cavalry should've been helping the troops out for a regroup. They should've waited at the top in formation instead of taking the chariot bait aswell, it was all over from there.
My point is that typical Roman armies (at least in Republican days) were commanded by the Consuls; two every year. Meaning that there were two generals in major battles consisting of major Roman armies.
My other point was, in reality, you are almost NEVER in a position, either in your job, career, family, or anything, where you can dictate your will and have everyone follow. You will ALWAYS be in a position of competing ideas "getting nothing done"
@BloodiestMargie your right about the consuls but each consul had their own army in which they were in charge of... they had the apprentecis which were like 3 which studied under the consul command.. just saying now i could be wrong
@thelittlemind Their structure was even worse than this one; they had multiple tribunes, they had a Legatus Legionis for each legion, and they had dozens of Centurions, all of whom were trained to act autonomously in battle if and when they were cut off from the Consul
Yeah, the total war games are all similar in one respect: the diplomatic AI is fucktarded. Sometimes you can have 5 full armies seiging their last city with a garrison consisting of their faction leader, and if you approach them for a ceasefire THEY demand money from YOU.
@runeman00 I still consider it vastly superior to falling back on slow-pan and zooms of Renaissance-era pictures that are wildly inaccurate in comparison to this.
@britgirl19 We should probably be thankful it isn't on anymore. Imagine them trying to renew this with that half-finished, buggy piece of shit Empire: Total War. It would be a disaster.
@BGH122@EmperorHarold I never found ETW to be "buggy", just not very interesting, very uninvolving. Maybe it was the frustration from being unable to clearly see all the TINY towns and ports and schools on the map, or the batshit-insane AI that sees fit to have nations randomly declare war on you, or demand HUGE tribute for no reason, with no military or political force to back it up. Or the Hollywood-style battles with ridiculous levels of musket accuracy
@BloodiestMargie well the first few thigs are agreeable, the battles are tweaked to keep interest, would you want to keep a battle going for hours on end as your troops cheer at any one hit they achieve? It is there to allow for tactics, not frustration.
@1337lolguyman Actually, ETW mods which reduce musket accuracy are far more satisfying, as you're capable of better handling your infantry, and rushing support for them, rather than have them be butchered in 2.2 seconds and break and run while your reinforcements are just getting in formation. If the shooty is too sufferably slow for you, you fix bayonets and chareg them old style
@BloodiestMargie well, not if you play Prussia, like me, as their infantry are tough and rely on breaking enemy incoming formations while prussian cavalry is much weaker and artillery is outright horrid at aiming. Mods like that will put players like me at a disadvantage by removing everything our faction gives us to be able to play like that.
@BloodiestMargie That precisely what I mean by buggy. They CAN'T have thought that having an AI which decides to declare war on a superpower for no reason when it's only got one city was a good idea. It's also pretty telling that they gave their enemy AI infinite money (this was a proved a while back, city states e.g. Bavaria, can spawn infinite units even when they're in the red).
@Trothvalintine It mostly tends to happen when someone unites tribes like this out of rage and hate and, unlike Vercingetorix, doesn't bother to try to retrain them or wage guerrilla war.

2. PUT THE ARCHERS IN FRONT OF THE INFANTRY TO "PROTECT" THEM and
3. RUN DOWN AT THEM OFF THE HILL INTO THE LOW GROUND
:\ I believe a WTF is in order. Your Britishness is hereby revoked.
