Ok, so i have a magnet with the diameter of the hole inside of 1.1 inches. Can you tell me how can i do the voice coil. I mean what copper wire, how many turns per layer, how many layers, ,the lenght of the wire, and how many ohms must have.
what size / pull force neodynium magnets did you use? also, what was the setup for your magnets? for example: from the bottom up, was it -magnet- -coil with neo magnet inside of it- ?
@scr34m1ng The size was 1.5"x1.5" pull force:215lbs. The neo magnet was inside of the coil and the bottom of the coil was rested at the middle of the magnet. The coil was also 1.5" tall too, so 3/4" of both overlaped each other.
@hedshotnig If you are asking that kind of question, don't even bother trying to make one. Too much involved and it would be much cheaper to buy a sub already made. It'll sound better in the end as well. Start with building a proper box for a sub.
IF anyone has a cheap Dell subwoofer for their computer, go out and buy a 30$ dual subwoofer, unscrew the little cheap computer sub, and hook up the positives and negs to the right ones. Then you have a nice ass Subwoofer.
yes there is all kinds of wire... but 0.5mm is a bit too thick already. 0.4 mm can take about 350W RMS, 500 peak. that should be enough, you'll likely have other things to deal with before power handling becomes an issue.
to wire for a desired rating you have to count the number of turns... if you don't have a winding machine w/counter forget about it (or build a winding device). it'll work out by itself. a ~2cm tall coil with 4 layers is gonna have somewhere around 4 ohm anyway.
almost every electronics store carries it. try radio shack and such.
for a 12 best is 0.4mm. for better treble reproduction you could go for 0.3 but it'll handle less power.
@ J07, man i'm glad to see a vid by you again. i've been trying to recoil a couple subs that i found, but i managed to break the coils while testing coz i was using paper as the former and i couldn't manage not to bend it slightly while building the coil, which ruined its strength. lesson learned, use aluminum.

@J07C24S88:
u could have made it last longer!!! XD they sell high temperature kapton formers or kapton tape to make your own voice coil formers.
and pro pa speaker companies like beyma sell high temperature voice coil glue.
otherwise really nice build.
