  • what a lot of people are forgetting to remember, is that a true English sports car should NOT have any bells and whistles. It should be pure and simple, and have great handling. And that's it. The Miata does that perfectly, and I can't stand it when people complain that it doesn't have enough conveniences. . This car is not about that! It's about being fun to drive, and that's all it's about. And this guy is wrong.. so wrong. The 2.0 Litre engine is very quick, and bulletproof reliable. Perfect!

  • The hardtop is not aluminum. It's plastic composite.

  • While this may be fun and all, if I would spend $30,000 on a two seat convertible, why not get a used 987 Porsche Boxster? Its around the same price(you'll spend more on maintenance and repairs, but you're getting a better car). Its much faster, especially if you get a Boxster S, its also much more fun, more power, better handling, better technology, better image, much prettier car. I love my Boxster, and its only a 986, word to the wise, don't spend 30k on a Miata, get the true performer.

  • I love his reasoning on the not getting the automatic, it was really funny, but also made sense, he should've added that it also cost more too.

  • i love this car its so fun to drive and the manual is the best one i have ever used. i dont care about tech for this car. if i wanted a bunch of techy stuff then id get something different. but this is a drivers car. the only thing i wished it had was an ipod/iphone connecter

  • Ok, does this still come with a mechanical throttle or does it have drive-by-wire? If it has a mechanical throttle, I'm a buyer! I hate that effin lag drive-by-wire throttles have.

  • Yeah, I agree. The direction he takes on this review isn't quite on the mark for this kind of car. It is like reviewing a family car but forgetting to talk about the safety features and only focusing on the "sport" aspect of it when its obviously not a "sports" car.

  • Those of you criticizing his perceived lack of knowledge and disproportionate interest towards the 'tech' obviously have no idea what CNET is and what these reviews are designed to do.

    If you want a review that mainly focuses on the driving dynamics, turn to one of the countless publications that specialize in that. CNET is a tech site. They have no interest in becoming MotorTrend.

  • I would never cross my mind to buy any car that have an ipod connectivity. No matter how good the car is, if there's an ipod connectivity build in it, it SUCKS! If I truly enjoy music I won't be owning an ipod anyway!

  • the main point of a review on a miata should be the driving dynamics but just to put it out there the miata does have variable valve timing.

  • The PRHT retracts and closes in 12 seconds. That's straight from a Mazda corporate representative. I've done my research, and this is the best roadster that money can buy. Brian Cooley looks foolish because he's not a true gear-head. A 2.0L 4-cylinder is plenty of power for the lightweight Miata. It's actually a larger engine than the Miata used to have. This guy is a total automotive n00b.

  • Judging by the comments, I expected to see a pretty crummy review. Though after watching it, I think he actually did a decent job. He was blunt and to the point. A little pricey though. Not even $10k more gets you a 370Z roadster with a huge bump in hp/tq. Though Mazda makes some really nice cars. I'm waiting for the MazdaspeedMX5 :)! ha

  • CNET's reviews like these are so weird. Yeah, check the tech in a car that is made for the driver's experience only, it aint a luxury car. They also do boneheaded things like review the Sport models of certain lines and complain that there's no tech... when there's the SL model that has nav and all that junk!
