Hey, My seeds have now been germinating 72 hours and sprouts are 1/4 - 3/4 inch in length, i plan to either plant today or tomorrow as tonight there may be frost. Any ideas? 1st time and 30 of 34 seeds have sprouted, i put them on 2 sheets of moist paper towel and covered them in the 2 as well, this was the placed in a plastic box in the shape of a slim suitcase and i put an old laptop on top of the box to keep them warm (about 25-30 degrees)

the position of the seed is not that important, in nature seeds will sprout regardles of what position the are in.

i have a few grows under my belt and in fact i find that when i plant the seed with the tap root pointing up my seedlings break the soil faster and they also look more robust!

Place them on a thin layer of soil, on a thin layer of paper tower, or directly in soil "You dont actually HAVE to germinate them, you can just plant them..." they will germinate on thier own too. For the first two options place in a ziplock baggie or small portable green house.

Yes you can just plant in soil without germinating. they will germinate in soil just fine.

It will be longer before you see anything because you dont get the "ooh pretty tip" phase.

But 2 days to tip then plant that then 5 days to see a shoot = 7 days. which is about what you have to wait if u plant right in soil.

you should only plant rooted seeds root down if they have a long tap root because the root makes a turn to push the seedcase out and sprout the first leaves, if you plant root down with a short tap root chances are it will have to make two turns in which case it will probably die

1: The paper towel method works AWESOME. REMEBER DO NOT touch the seeds, use tweezers or use something else, the oils on your hands damage seeds.

2: Plant with the white root down. Roots go into the soil, not out, the tail should be down.
