  • Thumb up if you think Bernadette still has it goin on!!!

  • WHAT THE HECK! No idea Mandy Patikin could sing like that! MIND BLOWN.

  • wow.

  • Am I mad, or does it all mean THAT MUCH MORE 27 years on?

  • 26 years later and they still NAIL that harmony. Tears.

  • This show will always be one of my most treasured theater memories. The last tableau is heartbreaking.

  • Damn Bernadette sound incredible here and of course the same goes for Mr. Patinkin.

  • You can tell at then end that Sondheim could not be prouder. :)

  • I had never heard this song before and I'm thankful that this was the first version I heard. I went and watched some of the others and this is really the one with the most feeling to it. <3<3<3

  • This gives me the courage to continue my life as an artist.

  • They look great. Now if they can only sing...

  • You guys. I get to see Mandy Patinkin in January! His tenor! I can't even! I've forgotten how beautiful his voice is.

  • There is no freaking way that Bernadette is in her 60s . . . just no way.DX Beautiful woman, beautiful performance. And of course, Mandy Patinkin is fantastic.

  • @therealcritic28 pretty sure she had work done.

  • @HarMoneyMeloDope Nope. You're dead wrong.

  • This really is stunning. They make this song make perfect sense. Such a restrained, yet perfect performance. Like they are about to explode. Wow.

  • Maybe next season these two can be reunited? That would be incredible.

  • i cannot stop watching this. it is flawless.

  • This is amazing. Gives me chills everytime

  • Flawless. How can they sing this song 26 yrs later and sound BETTER than they originally did. Oh my word. <3

  • WOW they are even better now than they were originally on b_way! Is this at the same birthday concert that has the divas in red part?

  • WOW they are even better now than they were originally on b_way! Is this at the same birthday concert that has the divas in red part?

  • @superduffman22 Yes- it is the same concert.... just watched it on Netflix today

  • GOD I LOOOVE IT SHE'S A CHARMER *__* <3 <3 <3

  • I LOOOOOVE IT <3 UGH SHE'S A CHARMER <3 *__*

  • Glorious!! Simply breathtaking! Here is a 4:26 long piece that can move a person to tears with it's calm, intense emotion. And it is that emotion that brings this piece, it's performers and it's composer across that fine line from music to art. These two are true artists and that is why they have my utter respect and adoration! Bravo!!

  • Glorious!! Simply breathtaking!

Here is a 4 minute, 26 second long piece that has the ability to move a person to tears, simply with calm, intense emotion. And it is only that powerful emotion that brings this piece, it's composer and it's performers across that ever-so fine line from music to art. These two are true artists, as is Stephen Sondheim, and that is why they have my infinite respect and adoration!! Bravo!

  • Timeless.

  • This moment may be one of the most touching and memorable moments in musical theatre.

    These artists are beyond beyond.

I cry every time...only thing that makes me.

  • all i ever wanted was for george and dot to say i love you to eachother... GAAAAAAAAAH

  • Peters is amazing -- the modern-day incarnation of a goddess etched on a Greek vase.

  • Two of my favorite people in the world. I could listen to them all day.

  • His "I love you" put me over the edge. Positively weeping after that.

Not sure if 2:52 or 2:56 is my favorite expression of hers.

  • His "I love you" put me over the edge. Positively weeping after that.

  • So beautiful.

  • Their voices are even more powerful, this performance is absolutely beautiful

  • I love this with all of my heart. Besides Company, this is my favorite show. EVER

  • God, this is beyond gorgeous! My favorite song from the show! No one can do it like these two. They're aging well, too! I love them to pieces!

  • God love Sondheim!! The connection these two have, and after almost 30 years you can hear all the years gone by, and feel the gravitas just radiating from them. They are George and Dot forever... no one can touch them!

  • Bernadette makes me so happy!

  • There IS only NOW...this is SUNDAY...this kills me xx

  • two people haven't moved on

  • it amazes me that people on youtube think they are critics. undoubtedly two of the best sondheim interpreters. stop your irrational cattiness and just enjoy this marvelous performance! if all you're going to do is critique, by all means take your ass to broadway and try to duplicate either one of these careers.

  • Two people just need to move on out of here.

  • She is so fierce! I can't believe she is in her 60s. I hope that when i'm in my 40s i look as amazing as she does. Love her!

  • @peanut251 She's had major work done, though haha for your sake I hope you can look that good and not have to have so much done to keep you looking young

  • @KevCantStop Where are you getting your information? She's had no cosmetic surgery whatsoever. If you've ever seen her up close, you can tell she's all-natural.

Plastic Surgery, no matter how good the work, doesn't age well. Most people don't know this...but you have to keep going in for touch ups to fix it, and eventually, you wind up looking inhuman or completely fake (i.e. Joan Rivers).

Peters hasn't had any work done.

  • She is so talented. :) And her dress? she looks like a goddess. She's so fierce!

  • Mandy is the master of fine piano notes and rare but powerful dramatic moments...He is born for singing Sondheim...and he is ...just great:)

  • Mandy's voice has gotten alot more operatic over the years.

  • two people slipped missing the like button

  • Mandy Patinkin, why are you so excellent?

  • GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH. Tonight I'll go to sleep a happy girl because of this. :D

  • i'll slice the two people who disliked this.

  • she is the perfect woman

  • @JankyVids I think Patti's vibrato is SOOOOOOOOOOOO much better though.

  • @KeepItGayStageNazi I love me some LuPone, but she's beginning to lose it. Watch her when she sings. She's becoming more and more reliant on jawline vibrato and other techniques to produce her trademark sound and belt. Like I said, I love her, but she shouldn't keep pushing it like that.

Bernadette rarely belts any more, and sings mainly in her head voice and upper register, since her high notes are still absolutely gorgeous. Also, Bernadette still brings more depth to everything she does.

  • @boynamedalexxx I don't think Patti is losing it at all. I don't prefer Patti over Bernadette. I love them equally, although I must say that Patti rocked the shit out of Gypsy and left Bernadette in the dust in that respect. Other than that I think they are both amazing. I think this whole Patti v. Bernadette thing should stop. Haha theater nerds need to stick together!

  • @KeepItGayStageNazi I love Patti, she's amazing. But I believe the Theatre has this idea that the two should be pitted against each other. Patti's a lot of fun, & can knock whatever out of the park (but her "Ladies Who Lunch" didn't have the punch it could have). She's got a ton of talent, obviously. But occasionally, she's just too "Patti & while I love her 'cuz she's a diva, it occasionally interferes with her ability to connect with material. Like I said, though, I love her. She is aweome.

  • @KeepItGayStageNazi I love Patti. She's terrific. But I believe the Broadway community has this idea that the 2 of them should be pitted against each other, which is ridiculous. But, Patti is great, & can knock whatever she does out of the park (her "Ladies Who Lunch" didn't pack the punch it could have though). Occasionally, she's a little too 'Patti' but partly why I love her is 'cuz she's a diva, though that sometimes interferes with her ability to connect to material. She's awesome, though.

  • @KeepItGayStageNazi If I have to choose between the 2, I will always pick Peters. Her depth as an actress is unparalled, and she is profoundly truthful and sincere 100% of the time. Her Rose is "Gypsy" was truly my favorite, because she disappeared into the role. She was gut-wrenching. It's also important to remember that Bernadette IS the premier Sondheim interpreter. To me, Peters is perfection personified.

Anways, I LOVE them both. They're powerhouse performers and 2 of my favorites.

  • @boynamedalexxx Patti has been doing that since she was in Evita. Watch videos of her closely, she's always done it, it's not anything new. And Bernadette Peters and Patti LuPone are about as different as different could be. Two different acting styles, voices, and people. I don't see the need for comparison.

  • @boynamedalexxx Well shit, now I have to find my own comment. They are both amazing. I do not believe one is better than the other, I just prefer Patti's voice. It's just that LuPone is easier to make into a phone's name, thus my phone's name is Patti LuPhone.

  • I fucking love Mandy Patinkin. I grew up with the Princess Bride and I had no idea who he was, nor did I care. Until I started watching Dead Like Me on Netflix. A year before that though, I rediscovered my love for musicals and bought every cd I could get my hands on. I could rant for days about how I fell in love with his talent, but I wont. Long story short, he is Inigo Montoya and he is boss

  • @KeepItGayStageNazi In summary that sounds exactly like my fangirly tale.

  • @moonlady3000 Aren't Broadway fangirls the best though!!! We ARE the coolest nerds ever too. We can reference a show/song/musical movie at any given moment in time and it makes us so happy when somebody catches the reference. This is why straight guys who love theater are gone so fast. lol

  • Their voices may not sound the best they've ever sounded ... but who cares? Time and time again, they nail this song. No one can sing this but Mandy and Bernadette.

  • @DivaBehavior their voices are richly augmented by maturity...never better...

  • Maybe even better than on the original cast album. Fabulous.

  • my ears always bleed when these two sing

  • Two unique voices. They both have so much power on some notes and so much fragility on others. It's breathtaking.

  • "And the way you catch the light" + Bernadette's face= PERFECT

    This was beautiful

  • The person who disliked this clearly has trouble moving on...

  • @overthemoo Hahahahahahahaaha!!!

  • Still perfect after all these years! Utterly wonderful to watch and moving.....Mandy Patinkin is the ultimate Broadway performer IMO - and I also love Bernadette Peters....this duet is just as fantastic as it was when it was on Broadway! (I also melted at the whispered "I love you"!)

  • Absolutely AMAZING!! The song rocks- and to see the two of them...so in sync- priceless!

  • I sense that for Miss Peters and Mr. Patinkin that this performance of "Move On" (now with their seasoned voices and faces, with painful resignation) is a life encore - it has more meaning now than when they first sang it on Broadway in the 1980's. It is wise, poignant and as moving a performance as could be imagined. Thank you.

  • Out of curiosity, does anyone know the name of the song Mandy Patinkin sang just before this? I saw Into the Woods so many years ago that I can't think of it!

  • @DMBKristen41

No, no, honey, it was also from Sunday in the Park with George - it's called "Finishing the Hat."

  • @DMBKristen41 It is not from Into the Woods. It is from Sunday in the Park with George. The beautiful song is called "Finishing the Hat". George sings it in Act I

  • @KeepItGayStageNazi They weren't talking about this song. They were responding to a comment where the user asked what the title of the song was that Mandy sang right *before* this one.

  • Everyone needs to see at least one Sondheim musical in a life time!

  • That was an absolute joy to watch. So real. THAT's why I do theatre. Amazing....and they can still knock that one out of the park.

  • I had seen this show twice but never really understood this song. Then one morning on the train to work I was listening to the cast album with a set of earphones. Suddenly I heard every word. Had just separated from my wife of 25 years and was doubting what we had done, and this song suddenly made sense. Before I got off the train I realized there were tears rolling down my face. Oh, the power of music - and of correly chosen words. Thank you Steve, Mandy, and Bernadette.

  • What a moment...

    That was just beautiful

  • I watched this on PBS last night and it was just magical. Bernadette Peters is a true broadway star and this song is so incredible.

  • How can anyone dislike this? As soon as she walked on I knew what they were going to sing. It was so beautiful and made me cry like a little girl. I can't explain it, but them singing this just feels right. When I watch this, I can see them back in the park again. It's perfect.

  • Hollywood--eat your shallow heart out!!!Only America could have produced this wonderful thing called The Musical Theater. There really is no business like show business and by that I don't mean CATS or Mama Mia!!

  • ugh can't believe i missed this.. PLEASE re-air it!!!!!!

  • Bernadette is so wonderful, She always makes me cry.

  • This is the reason why I love broadway... It's for little moments like these

  • @actorfreak1792 Yes, you are right. Theater people are very special!

  • YES.

  • Such a thrill. I never saw the original although I really enjoyed the revival.

Peters' mama rose remains one of my most vivid theatrical memories

  • asjfdskfhsf when they whisper "i love you" to each other at the end. i melted.

  • Nearly 30 years after they first sang it, Bernadette and Mandy still bring that same magic to it.. No one else has been able to replicate it. Their performances were utterly perfect. You can tell, watching it here, how deeply they still connect to the show and its music.

Also, does Mandy say "I love you" at 4:19 ? That is too cute!

  • @boynamedalexxx

Better than cute.It is love.It is also show business love between performers who love singing and being together over so many evenings and evenings.

  • @boynamedalexxx He may have whispered it in Bernadette's ear, but he was SAYING it to Stephen Sondheim....

  • @BethElaineSmith Ummm...I'm sure he meant it to Bernadette. Who wouldn't love her?!

  • Absolutely amazing!!

  • many patinkin can still go

  • I was there...all I can say is: My God.

  • I am actually bawling my eyes out. This is so precious and perfect.
