you dont know anything those people out there are life savers amazing people and christians working to save children from that evil coney they go to afrrica a risk there lives for somthing greater than themselves while you probably sit home on you lazy but i know one of those women out there and i am so proud of her she has risked her life many times to go there and help those children i hope you and any one else who critisizes them sits in shame for the rest of your life
Oprah is a flesh and blood human being, and the veneration of a human being is obscene. Other than being a black figurehead, what could Oprah possibly do to make the situation any better, throw money at it? Bill Gates has some serious money! Let's try this again with a rousing "Bill Gates come and rescue us"!
No. The true measure of someone with the ability to tell the world about an issue other media ignores is when she asks her fans if they'll bother taking five minutes to investigate a good cause and become involved. Oprah is the not savior, she is a way for us all to become the saviors and a way to tell other people how they can help.
I give up. You win. With Oprah working the African continent...hell, let's give her the entire southern hemisphere, and Barack doing the northern hemisphere, we don't need no steenkeeng Second Coming.
Oh. So you're one of the religious people that make good religious people look insane. You don't listen to a thing we say. You only listen to the voices in your head and in your textbooks. Especially no one is giving them anything. That explains everything. You don't care about the world now at all. Screw off.
I love this organization! I think it's so great that everyone can work together for such a great cause. And this song is so creative. Buy a bracelet, help the Invisible Children of Northern Uganda.
utubin67.. I pray that God's grace and forgiveness would break that stone heart of yours. The thing you have wrong is that you think everyone is exactly like you. That our hearts are as cold and negative as yours. That is where you are completely wrong. We have a desire to live differently than what you describe in all your comments. OUr hearts our filled with joy and hope, knowing our voices can make a difference.
Thank you Thank you Thank you a million thanks Chicago you really inspired the people who couldn't make it and the people watching too. We had 1200 people in the chat room friday morning. You are amazing Chicago!
You made me cry a valley of tears, guys...You are angels. Don't listen to any form of negative comments. Getting the blows is proof enough that you are doing GOOD for humanity. The best we can offer from a third world country is our collective prayers for ONENESS...for freedom and justice to be granted these kids.. Just do it!! God Bless you...You are Winners!!!!

if I wrote a book on my own life and life experiences and what I've gone through in this country.. it would be pretty shocking! To this day, I experience so many things most of you wouldn't believe. I myself can't believe it to be honest but yet I am living a certain nightmare everyday! I won't get into because it's much too involved. So, I put myself on the back burner and go on. The lesson I learned as a human being is that no one helps anyone, we just help ourselves. Am I wrong?
So you never had a teacher? Who fed you when you were a baby? People help people. You may not like it and you may not want to do it but leave these people alone.
btw most of the people here hoo-ing and hah-ing are kids.. they have no money so sorry guys. I do however thing that while you were all well-intentioned on the surface.. there were things going on beneath the surface.. like the thought of fame and fortune or big jobs or whatever. America is bankrupt, I just sent a girlscout walking who was selling cookies. Are any of you people involved in this aware of the current economic status of our country?
So you sent a girl scout away from your door. Meaning you have a house, or at least live in one. That is more than a lot of people in America have. And a hell of a lot more than those poor kids in Africa have. Grow up man.
The last thing I want to say about this and I'm saying it lastly because I really needed to get all that other stuff off my chest. But this should put an end to this now. The timing of IC, could it be worse? America is in a recession, millions of jobs here were lost. Millions of people unemployed (Ben Keesey probably lost his job at JP Morgan) and now you hit us up with poor African children? need I say more? I mean, gosh. Even Oprah was aware of this, that's why she hesitated to begin with.
America is wasting money left and right, and if we can drop a little aid on people who are being SLAUGHTERED and KIDNAPPED and MUTILATED every single day, being forced to kill their friends and family in fear as they are only 9 years old, then we should. This isn't politics, or economy, these are people.

I strongly doubt there is any Emergency that is ongoing over there in Uganda that speaks of the things you mention. If SLAUGHTER, KIDNAPPING, MUTILATION was happening everyday these people would be extinct in a short time. Truth is that what goes on there goes on everywhere. I've already said it go check out America's crime stats on google. What about those numbers? Rapes, murders, abductions.. right here in America.
Do you have any idea what is going on over there??? Because it sounds like you don't know much about this situation. Kids are being kidnapped from their families constantly, having a gun forced in their hands, and told if they cry, they will have their ears cut off, girls are kidnapped to be sex slaves, they are told to murder their own people.. I don't care about borders or country lines, America or Uganda. I'm a human being and they are too and I can't just sit around and let it happen.
if you choose to dedicate your life to changing the problems that we have here in America, I applaud you. But you cant tell other people what to be passionate for, especially when these people have dedicated their lives to human rights.
How can any American dedicate themself to helping Americans when our own government doesn't care about us, just like the African governments don't care about their people. I wish everyone involved in this cause would just take the wool that's on your eyes off so you can see that you yourself are in dangerous waters if anything happens to you. You will be quite surprised at just how alone we are right here in the USA.
The thing is, you have to look past being an "American" and look into being a citizen of the world.. we're all in this together whether we're Ugandan or Canadian or Venezuelan. The government is just a group of people, and if people like you and I, got to work to making this world a better place for our brother and sisters around us. I'm not sure what you're suggesting we do, just sit at home and watch american idol? Or get out there and make a difference!
I think those that say we don't need celebrities are missing the point of the rescue. The Rescue was meant to bring the atrocities these children face to the attention of people who can make a difference and put the problems into the light of the media. By getting Oprah, other celebrities, politicians, and moguls to come, we are raising awareness.
for people saying we don't need Oprah, we were fine before... in Chicago for example, thousands of people marched through the streets wearing invisible children shirts, and we got no media attention until fox came later, but this was never even put on the news. after the ten minutes that Oprah put it on her show for, it was the number one searched thing on google. this isn't about raising money for schools right now, we NEED this to be brought to the attention of our government.
and to the guy doubting that IC is a good charity.. give them a call, i'm sure they would love to talk to you. I had my doubts at first, but they are super awesome honest people that dont "pocket" money. give them a call. =]
i honestly hav no idea wat the whole deal is about invisible children, but i did a school report/story thingy on somthing important 2 me, so i did somthing i havnt really thort about bfor and did child soldiers, i was horrified after doing research and am now very passionate about it, later wen i get 2 year 10 or so, we can go ovr 2 africa as a school help out thing and build homes and schools, its called watoto, i defiantly want 2 do that....
honesty = money lots of money when something is legite and you go out of your way to show your honesty. People appreciate that, we who are being asked for money don't like it when our money goes into a mysterious vacuum. Is there something wrong with saying that?
the annual reports do not show how much money is coming in on a daily basis,it doesn't break down monies donated ie., how many 5 dollar donations, 25, 50, 100, 1,000, 10,000, 1 million etc.. Then tally up the donation amount annually and show the people
what are the salaries on the payroll? How much $ is 'taken in/goes out'? These have to be two different amounts because there has to be expenses..
Any real organization wouldn't have had to beg Oprah for air-time, they would have been invited onto the show like civilized human beings. I guess Oprah's people didn't exactly like what the saw? Does anyone know that IC is nothing more than a corporation selling merchandise and of course pocketing money. I mean come on, IC isn't pocketing millions? Sure they're not.. neither was Madoff, right? I hate to be so negative I do, but this just smells bad.
Companies pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to get a segment or a sponsorship from Oprah. We don't have the kind of money to do that, so we got creative. It's unbelievable that one of the most powerful women in the world would invite us to be on her show an hour before it goes on air and do a 7 minute segment. And no one at IC is just pocketing money- the financials are outstanding in comparison to the average non-profit in how much is going directly to the programs.
so amazing. talking to bobby at lunch after being rescued...his passion. oh man. God bless everyone who was in Chicago. and all those who supported us but couldn't come out.
If your aim is to bring us down, it WILL NOT WORK. We made history this week and we are going to be changing the world; you will see this change in the future, guaranteed.
You and anyone else who doubts this organizations' aims will be in my prayers.
I was in Spokane, WA from Saturday to Monday when we got rescued, then I hopped on a bus to Chicago to help out and JUST got home from a great thing! No one wants to see discouraging comments from you right now. This organization is NOT about getting money, it is about ending the war in Africa and helping those children. This organization is an NGO and with all the political attention this event has brought, there is no way this group could hide all the money that is being donated.
utubin67..As you know Invisible Children is a functioning non-for-profit 501c-3 ..every penny must be meticulously documented and answered for...if you go to the main website..their annual report is posted for the public..this movement is about youth standing up and making a difference in the world..which it appears that they are doing a pretty great job at.
utubin67... get a clue.. why dont you call the office yourself and get your facts straight before you try to belittle a great thing. There are a lot of issues going on around the world. Why is being a HUMAN in Africa less important than being a human here? What are you doing for the poor in America yourself? Why are you trying to bring down a group of individuals who are making a difference in the lives of those who are in need of people with influence, Americans, to help out?
You obviously don't know much about Invisible Children. So call them up and have them send you an annual report. They are extremely transparent the way they run the organization. They have nothing to hide.
I am tired of the insults of people who sit on their ass watching TV instead of creating movements that tell our government we care. Government only acts when we tell them too, so unless you're written 70,000 letters recently for a cause, SHUT Up and educate yourself on this wonderful event, The Rescue, that involved 100,000 people across the entire world - not just in America!!!!!
my question initially was to inquire about the 'money' and I haven't gotten one answer yet. This website is accepting donations and I'm wondering where will the potentially millions of 'Oprah-Driven' dollars go? I have a right to know, and this 'movement' has to show this by law. So let me ask again, where can I go to see how the money moves from point a (the website) to point b (to the children). Will there be big wages paid to 'those who care' that would be a problem for me.
All money goes directly to Invisible Children, a non profit group with its own home base in Uganda. No government takes money from the donations, it all goes straight into rebuilding schools and paying for jobs in Uganda. Look up the bracelet campaign and see how people with no income in camps have cash b/c of their work. And I as a volunteer have seen the schools we are rebuilding. Closed schools are opening again. So again, do not complain: get involved! invisiblechildren . com
I think it is perfectly normal for a 16-year old Ugandan girl to get kidnapped from her family, raped numerous times, escape from the bush when she could be killed for running away, come back to her village, and be rejected by her friends and family because she is carrying an LRA-members' child. This is just comfortable living, of course! This is the way they want to live, right, utubin67? I mean, they chose to live this way. That girl obviously chose to be traumatised for life and rejected.
everyone knows this goes on. The people to handle these atrocities are the United Nations, World Leaders need to come together on this maybe the question to ask is why don't they? Or, do they? Yes there's crimes being committed but crimes are committed here to- You think abductions don't happen in America? Have u seen a Milk carton lately? The difference is that in Africa these things happen in poor living conditions which make them appear more morose, truth is America is not much safer.
the truth is is that America is worse off than most other country's sure we have advanced medicines, nice homes with big yards and white fences but there is so much oppression in this country that people don't see.. The best you see a man do in America there is another man doing equally poorly.. Other country's rather a more moral way of everyone living pretty much the same. Which way do you think is best. These problems are what people in America should be addressing.. lol not Africa.
by the way I could go to Africa and make an equally convicing video of how African people love eachother, take care of eachother and how their family values make ours look pretty sad. How many American siblings don't even talk to eachother? How many divorces in this country? uh huh.. half of all marriages end in divorce.. make a video of why America is such a disgruntled population of people and I'll buy that video for sure!
Don't you think the entire World knows how African people live? If the World Leaders aren't going into Africa to change it, why are three rich American kids pretending they can do that. What about this, maybe Africa's ways are true to nature. Maybe America's ways are the craziest on the planet. If the USA is so advanced why aren't other country's emulating us? I'll tell u why, it's because some people refuse to live so unequally as we American's do- I wish I was born in Africa, I truly do.
What if you were born in northern Uganda, then stolen from your family while you were still a child and forced to kill or be killed in a war? Wouldn't you want someone to help?
The young people in the video and at Invisible Children are just trying to help.

Why doesn't America help its own people first. If you think for one second that America helps its poor people you are in dire denial! Poor people in this country make grossly insufficient wages and live in communities where rent alone takes 2 or 3 jobs per household. Foodstamps per family is $140/month? Most people on welfare are prostitutes or drug dealers to make ends meet..America is riddled with injustice and disparate socio-economic conditions and it's always 'F' poor people, they're lazy!
"I wish I was born in Africa, I truly do. "-utubin67...when you said this utubin67, I stood up and shouted for joy! I was afraid that you would prove yourself to be another naive, faux-cynical teenager trying to be a little cool, especially after you called all these other people naive. But in fact, you aren't! I saw that with this comment above. You truly know what you're talking about. I mean seriously, wouldn't ANYONE want to go live in Northern Uganda? Boston SUCKS compared to Gulu.

I'm 41 I have a sociology Masters degree from NYU, I'm not a naive teenager. And I know a get rich quick scam when I see one. I can see the big picture, most people unfortunately cannot. I'm just trying to bring up some important questions to see through this 'movement', so far the money trail isn't being talked about so this is just a big joke.
"5 Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. 6 So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. 7 For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey Gods laws, and it never will. 8 Thats why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God."
This is awesome and definitely not a waste of time. As of now, this rescue was aimed to spread the word and raise awareness so that more people are informed and more people become willing to help so that we can go and make a difference
lol @ 'getting rich of african kids' comment. a lot of people skipped work for this, or even lost their jobs so they could stick this out and be dedicated to the cause. this has nothing to do with money. we want to help and this is the best way we know how, because a lot of us AREN'T rich and don't have the funds to go into uganda and do something there. this is what we CAN do, and it IS making a difference.
but, be a cynic if you want. we know why we're doing what we're doing.
No one financed this!!! We bought shirts, that's it. The people there all decided to come. They drove themselves, so one took planes, we ate little food, all of it was donated. We didn't pay to sleep anywhere, we slept on the streets. The 3 people who started the organization are not cashing in. No one paid the police to come...they came, they helped. We provided everything for ourselves. This event was to get the attention of legislators, celebrities and moguls who can make a difference
Look you guys have to understand that America can't go country by country and make every country just like America. African people live the way they are comfortable living. Will they evolve into a better way? Well that's up to them, and at their pace, not ours. What do you plan to do to make a change? Ok put up a huge Trump Plaza for the kids to all sleep in, Then the Rebels take it over (duh), now what do we go to War with Africa too? How much thinking went into this?
I agree completely utubin67. You are so educated on this. It is in fact, ridiculous to think that a ten year old Acholi boy shouldn't be forced to kill his best friend with an AK-47. That's just comfortable living! I'm with you on this bud.
In fact, I would rather we let Joseph Kony's rebel soldiers steal MORE children from their homes, their families, and their lives. Lets SUPPORT Kony's generals who rape Acholi daughters and whip Acholi sons. This is the way they're comfortable living, right?
Oh, so the children are comfortable being abducted and being forced into killing their people?? We're young people getting politically active and trying to make a difference. Don't think that Oprah is the only one we have contacted. Tons of Senators and government officials participated in the rescue. This isn't a publicicty stunt...we want this to end.
get real jobs to those who went to Africa with a video camera that's not the end of the work cycle for you rich kids. go out and get jobs. don't try to get rich off poor African kids that's been done a billion times. You've been exposed. You're just common scammers cashing in on poor people and a sad video. What do you think people are stupid like Oprah? Oprah only got involved because 'Africa' was part of it. You guys really had it all down.. hook, line and banker!
You have things completely wrong. I suggest you look at the real reason why we are doing this. Its to end a war, not to get rich. It to bring families back together that were torn apart by the mad man Joseph Kony. You obviously have no idea of what you talk about.
We are not rich, not in the slightest.
Nor are we trying to get rich. Most of us do have what you call "real jobs", which generally dont pay enough...but we dont care. Its not about money, its about the children and bringing them home
Hey everyone, please do some research on what this event, The Rescue, was about and what the point was/is. It seems that people are basing their thoughts of how effective an event or demonstration like this is on other comments posted on this video or on the description for the video. I'm really interested to learn about what people who seem to be critical of IC's efforts are doing to help child soldiers. Do you have a better solution? If so, you should start a revolution too. Join for peace...
I think the website could give so much more information. We don't just want to know about the poor children who suffer, yea that's part of what is important of course. The site should also bio the three kids who appear to be the spearheaders.. who are they? where do they come from? why are they doing this? These questions need to be raised so the people can decide on whether this is legitimate or not.
we weren't "worshiping" oprah. we were getting the attention of a giant mogul so we could get the word out about the invisible children (which apparently worked cause as soon as she aired, the site crashed) and go home.
we were in no way worshiping her.
She has a hell of a lot of power, why not get her to uses it for our cause?
Riiiigghhtttt invisible children and a very visible donation website. And once again, no one knows anything about where the money goes? typical scam ingredients Im so sick of this stuff.
The goal of this was media attention. Singing outside of Oprah's studios got her attention and resulted in a segment on her show. I am not an Oprah fan, but regardless of how I feel she IS a media mogul. Her advice to check out the Invisible Children resulted in so many hits the site crashed. Short-term goal accomplished.
Apparently, people have decided that Oprah is worthy of worshiping. In my opinion, Oprah is all that's wrong with our society. She represents vainity. It's a shame that she's gotten tied into such a good organization.
there is no reason that because of this video that these people should now have an easy life by cashing in on this. If you wanted to highlight a disturbing reality in Africa and then walk away and go get a job like the rest of the world, well then fine. You'll have my respect. But if you start selling t-shirts, writing books, etc.. then you're a money sell-out and you tricked everyone. We shall see the true intentions of this 'invisible children' it should only be the children who benefit.
I have watched it. I'm also a college graduate and do you think I haven't seen this before? I'd like to know who financed this excursion? Travel, food, equipment, security (if you had any)? who runs this? why so many secrets? names and banks please. It's only fair.
Invisible Children has already managed to create films on this issue and pressure congress enough to get a senior level diplomat to help mediate in Uganda and they achieved a ceasefire and potential peace talks. How is that not evidence enough for you to understand that this organization is truly trying to do right in the world?
Invisible Children uses the money donated to orchestrate events like The Rescue, which has raised awareness across the globe for the last week. Imagine over a hundred cities hosting a rally, each rally has at least 1,000 in attendance and each of those 1,000 calls everyone they know to try to get someone of influence to come to the event.
To be completely honest, I'm only 14. A naive child who knows nothing about justice. Too young to know the difference between a quick buck and money through 15 minutes of fame. And who are you to be criticizing a group of people who try to make something of themselves while you have indeed done nothing? Why do you insist on repenting by being so bitter about people who make you feel that way? And why is it that they have to give up their whole life story so you can prove your point?
I've done nothing? That's just silly, you don't even know me. These people you all saw who were having their 'Oprah moment', yeah I know it's ez to get caught it up in all. Well I'm 41 I've been around and it takes a bit more than an 'Oprah' moment to satisfy my 'heart' in this world. My qualm is that when I went to their website it was money, money, money. And yet no info on who these people are? where does this money go? You think I'd ever give money to strangers with a cool video? No, never.
utubin67--I am 37 and I have been involved with this movement for about 3 years now... in this situation $ is not what it is all about and the children of N.Uganda are not asking for $... even w/o us they have hope... IC has brought the ability for schools and further education through 1program so that the children can help affect their own future & take charge, another change has been peace talks that were not under way until this movement. I understand your skepticism in a world such as out
utubin67-- How can some Americans change the culture of anything... Rosa Parks was 1 woman, Martian Luther King was 1 man, Jesus was 1 man, Helen Keller was 1 woman... one rain drop may not make a difference but a river can help carve the Grand Canyon and a hurricane can destroy a city. A least these teens care about someone and something bigger than themselves. And is a world with such suffering isn't that worth it already? Peace, Love and Empathy
someone please forward my comments to Oprah and I will get on the air with Oprah and skype with her about these very real issue I am raising with these 'Rescuers'. I want to call them out on a few things. Anyone true and honest enough to come forward let's do it. Let's Skype about it Oprah. You can get me through my youtube screen name. Not that I think you will. I'm sure Oprah has come to terms with her own naivety over these exact feelings of which I am sharing here. g'night.
I mean, I know that everything in life needs money. Everything they've done to make this happen needed money. But you're just not getting the point. All this isn't just for money, which you make it seem. There's a deeper meaning of this that you can't just open your eyes for a quick second to see.
How can some American teens or 20 somethings change the culture of Africa? Okay you want a 'addaboy' you got it! But when you ask for my money you should tell me about the money part. I'm not a sucker whose going to give these kids a free pass in life as they pull the wool over my eyes with a sad video. My next qualm is that America can't change Africa. All Africa wants from this is money, and that's all the American kids want too. Nothing will change, think a/b Somolia pirates.. money, money!!
Oprah you got suckered, hook, line & sinker baby!! Oprah even went as far as telling these 3 opportunists they should get a 'peace' award lololol.. For What for traveling to Africa with video cameras? You think these kids are the first to risk their life for fame and fortune? The military does that everyday and when they come home mamed or brain-damaged they barely get Disability Insurance! So, Oprah check yourself on the 'award' comment don't be such a sucker for 'on-air' beggars! go away Tri!
You have no idea what you are talking about. These people are amazing. They are part of our generation trying to make a difference in this world. I think its prety obvious that you are wrong when you are the only one on here criticizing
what are you talking about.. I would do more than that if I saw a money well at the end of the tunnel. And now with Oprah chiming in.. there will be millions of dollars generated most likely, so why don't we all ask about where the money is going? Are you kidding me, after all that's happened on Wall St. and throughout our government and all the scammers, sheisters, and crooks.. you still trust people at face value? wow, that is typical naive thinking.
where I can track it when the money gets to Africa, and who are these guys on a personal level, socio-economic level, education level, etc.
If I'm wrong, send me to where the information is. I want to know where the money goes, where I can track it when the money gets to Africa, and who are these guys on a personal level, socio-economic level, education level, etc. etc..
And by the way, since none of this information was initially made available I think that that is worthy of notice because having been asked this information after the fact usually leads us down a path of deception. So just keep it in mind that these guys have separated themselves as 'human' beings by completely focusing on the African's and never talking about themselves. If I'm wrong, send me to where the information is. I want to know where the money goes.
WOW. I think you should do your homework before you try to bag on these people. You do understand that the only money the people who crated Invisible Children have ever asked for was those bracelet and DVDs that go towards helping a certain child in Uganda go to school. They don't beg for money in every DVD they make. They only ask for help in raising awareness of the Ugandan kids that have been affected by the two-decade war.
I should do my homework? I went to their website invisiblechildren and they are asking for $12/mo. recurrent charges, they're asking for big one time donations, company matching dollar for dollar.. this whole website is all about money and if you try to register you will find that you're simultaneously filling out a donation form? So what are you talking about? did you go to the wrong website?
The wealthy people have used poor people to get rich for a long, long, time now! I want to know if this is another one of those situations. These guys seem okay on the surface, but with all the talking these guys did, I know so much about the African children and culture but I know nothing about these 'invisible children' documentarians. I want to know who they are so I can make a decision on whether or not I trust them.
If you really had something against these people for wanting to make a difference in the world, I think you should have gotten to know their story first. They seriously had no idea what they were going to accomplish when they first got to Africa. They have many videos, each telling a great story. They have a website for Christ's sake. And they're only motive would be to convince US world leaders to take a stand for those who can't in Africa against the LRA and Joseph Kony.
don't be so foolish I see businessmen at the forefront of this so called 'operation' another bunch of opportunists and why doesn't anyone address the issue of accountablitiy.. what is so wrong about people knowing about who these people are? Their background? Where donated money is going EXACTLY! Why are these areas always so vague? I'll tell you why.. because the rich 'educated' people know that the 'average class citizens' don't ask important questions. welcome to capitalism, get educated.
But you're not thinking into this at all. You do realize all you're looking at is the money. If all they really wanted was money, they would've done a stupid commercial with green-screen backgrounds and a little asian kid from down the street, trust me I've seen it done before. You're not seeing that they're not doing these ridiculous, life-threatening things for a little extra cash. The people in Chicago asked Oprah to come because she's a powerful woman who they saw could actually do something
"all you're looking at is money"? That's what you said to me. Do I have to ask you if there is anything in this world that motivates American's more than money? Are you a normal person? America is Land of the Dollar! People do everything they do for a dollar! This conversation is getting silly. Yes Oprah could actually do something and that 'something' also has to do with 'money'. I don't have time to teach you about life, are you over 13 y/o?
wait I have to correct myself.. there is 1 other thing that American's do want more than money.. that is FAME which these people who lead this 'operation' are already getting.. And don't you worry.. FAME most definitely leads to MONEY! I trust no one who pops up with a video camera and shows me poor kids in Africa I mean this is so rediculous I could go to a hundred countries with a video camera and show equally disturbing footage, setup a website & demand no one ask about the donation money?
To be perfectly honest, all these young men who are on camera appeared to me to be 'kids of wealth'. Am I wrong? Well then where is the bio of the guys who put this together? What was their childhood like since their movie/video is about the lives of children? Since this movie/video is about poverty and oppression what socio-economic status defines these young men behind the cameras? I want to know!
Having been duped so many times by previous 'look how sad, donate now' campaigns, American's aren't so easily reaching into their pockets at least not without some access into where our donated money is going, and how do we see the 'real-life' impact our monies are making. Look, I'm not donating my money to some kids of weathly parent's who couldn't come up with a cool way to get rich so they thought by cooking up a recipe of 1.some risk 2.videos of 3rd world children 3. as for donations
#1- how will 'invisible children' allow 'us' who donate our work-earned monies into the lives and world of these children? If we want to see how our donations impact these children in their 'real-lives', is that option available?
#2- This is very important, Okay, where does the donation money go? And I mean where does it go, what Bank? Who has power over the money? Who distributes the money? I would like names. How much of every dollar goes to the children? What the expenses, salaries, etc.?
By the way, you DO know what these people in this video are doing, right? It's called The Rescue. These people in Chicago have waited SIX DAYS for Oprah to come for 5 minutes and 'rescue' them as they pose as abducted children. SIX DAYS. And the Ugandans have waited over TWENTY YEARS for someone, anyone, to give them back their hope and for someone to relieve them from the fear of the LRA.
I don't know these people from atom. We should all find out who their parents are since they are all young their biggest influences are their parents. so start there! Next, what schools did they go to? Where does the donated money go? for gods sakes is this a secret? Sounds as though from my questions people are attacking me for just asking questions. What does that say? Sounds like ignorance 100% pure to me!
Part 1: I have 2b the 'devils advocate' here and though I must admit this story is as touching a story as one can find out here, I still must ask the following questions and admit to the following thoughts.
How can anyone blame me for being skeptical with all the corrupt organizations that have sprung up over the decades claiming to 'help the poor', 'feed the poor', 'clothe the poor'? So, I am asking the hard questions here and will await some hard, truthful answers on these questions.
it's just so amazing I was there for 2 days in the beginning but then had to go home I was itching all week wanting to go back. I was crying when i heard that oprah came to the rescue I'm so happy! wish i could of stayed. I'm so pround of everyone who held strong to the end:]

lol can I use your car anytime I want to support IC? I was supposed to be there but they forgot to put my on the list and didn't have room for me =( I cried, seriously...I was stuck in San Diego doing nothing when I could have been a Rescue Rider =/
I am sure you will have more opportunities to support this cause, so hang in there. RE: My car...well...you may want to ask my son. It's his now. While he was gone, I bought a Sebring convertible. :)

Oprah is a flesh and blood human being, and the veneration of a human being is obscene. Other than being a black figurehead, what could Oprah possibly do to make the situation any better, throw money at it? Bill Gates has some serious money! Let's try this again with a rousing "Bill Gates come and rescue us"!
kevinmc52 2 years ago
Oprah made the IC website crash with the people she told to visit it and get involved. Gates couldn't do that!!!
aniu15228 2 years ago
Perfect. The true measure of a savior is if her sheep can crash the website.
kevinmc52 2 years ago
No. The true measure of someone with the ability to tell the world about an issue other media ignores is when she asks her fans if they'll bother taking five minutes to investigate a good cause and become involved. Oprah is the not savior, she is a way for us all to become the saviors and a way to tell other people how they can help.
aniu15228 2 years ago
I give up. You win. With Oprah working the African continent...hell, let's give her the entire southern hemisphere, and Barack doing the northern hemisphere, we don't need no steenkeeng Second Coming.
kevinmc52 2 years ago
Oh. So you're one of the religious people that make good religious people look insane. You don't listen to a thing we say. You only listen to the voices in your head and in your textbooks. Especially no one is giving them anything. That explains everything. You don't care about the world now at all. Screw off.

if I wrote a book on my own life and life experiences and what I've gone through in this country.. it would be pretty shocking! Am I wrong?

btw most of the people here hoo-ing and hah-ing are kids.. they have no money so sorry guys. I do however thing that while you were all well-intentioned on the surface.. there were things going on beneath the surface.. like the thought of fame and fortune or big jobs or whatever. America is bankrupt, I just sent a girlscout walking who was selling cookies. Are any of you people involved in this aware of the current economic status of our country?
utubin67 2 years ago
So you sent a girl scout away from your door. Meaning you have a house, or at least live in one. That is more than a lot of people in America have. And a hell of a lot more than those poor kids in Africa have. Grow up man.
Ryan2169 2 years ago
The last thing I want to say about this and I'm saying it lastly because I really needed to get all that other stuff off my chest. But this should put an end to this now. The timing of IC, could it be worse? America is in a recession, millions of jobs here were lost. Millions of people unemployed (Ben Keesey probably lost his job at JP Morgan) and now you hit us up with poor African children? need I say more? I mean, gosh. Even Oprah was aware of this, that's why she hesitated to begin with.
utubin67 2 years ago
America is wasting money left and right, and if we can drop a little aid on people who are being SLAUGHTERED and KIDNAPPED and MUTILATED every single day, being forced to kill their friends and family in fear as they are only 9 years old, then we should. This isn't politics, or economy, these are people.
JayPetey 2 years ago

I strongly doubt there is any Emergency that is ongoing over there in Uganda that speaks of the things you mention. If SLAUGHTER, KIDNAPPING, MUTILATION was happening everyday these people would be extinct in a short time. Truth is that what goes on there goes on everywhere. I've already said it go check out America's crime stats on google. What about those numbers? Rapes, murders, abductions.. right here in America.
utubin67 2 years ago
Do you have any idea what is going on over there??? Because it sounds like you don't know much about this situation. Kids are being kidnapped from their families constantly, having a gun forced in their hands, and told if they cry, they will have their ears cut off, girls are kidnapped to be sex slaves, they are told to murder their own people.. I don't care about borders or country lines, America or Uganda. I'm a human being and they are too and I can't just sit around and let it happen.
JayPetey 2 years ago 2
if you choose to dedicate your life to changing the problems that we have here in America, I applaud you. But you cant tell other people what to be passionate for, especially when these people have dedicated their lives to human rights.
rockon1029 2 years ago
How can any American dedicate themself to helping Americans when our own government doesn't care about us, just like the African governments don't care about their people. I wish everyone involved in this cause would just take the wool that's on your eyes off so you can see that you yourself are in dangerous waters if anything happens to you. You will be quite surprised at just how alone we are right here in the USA.
utubin67 2 years ago

By getting Oprah, other celebrities, politicians, and moguls to come, we are raising awareness.

for people saying we don't need Oprah, we were fine before... in Chicago for example, thousands of people marched through the streets wearing invisible children shirts, and we got no media attention until fox came later, but this was never even put on the news. after the ten minutes that Oprah put it on her show for, it was the number one searched thing on google. this isn't about raising money for schools right now, we NEED this to be brought to the attention of our government.

honesty = money lots of money when something is legite and you go out of your way to show your honesty. People appreciate that, we who are being asked for money don't like it when our money goes into a mysterious vacuum. Is there something wrong with saying that?
utubin67 2 years ago
the annual reports do not show how much money is coming in on a daily basis,it doesn't break down monies donated ie., how many 5 dollar donations, 25, 50, 100, 1,000, 10,000, 1 million etc.. Then tally up the donation amount annually and show the people
what are the salaries on the payroll? How much $ is 'taken in/goes out'? These have to be two different amounts because there has to be expenses..
utubin67 2 years ago
Any real organization wouldn't have had to beg Oprah for air-time, they would have been invited onto the show like civilized human beings. I guess Oprah's people didn't exactly like what the saw? Does anyone know that IC is nothing more than a corporation selling merchandise and of course pocketing money. I mean come on, IC isn't pocketing millions? Sure they're not.. neither was Madoff, right? I hate to be so negative I do, but this just smells bad.
utubin67 2 years ago
Companies pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to get a segment or a sponsorship from Oprah. We don't have the kind of money to do that, so we got creative. It's unbelievable that one of the most powerful women in the world would invite us to be on her show an hour before it goes on air and do a 7 minute segment. And no one at IC is just pocketing money- the financials are outstanding in comparison to the average non-profit in how much is going directly to the programs.

This organization is an NGO and with all the political attention this event has brought, there is no way this group could hide all the money that is being donated.
ocatandmax 2 years ago 2
utubin67..As you know Invisible Children is a functioning non-for-profit 501c-3 ..every penny must be meticulously documented and answered for...if you go to the main website..their annual report is posted for the public..this movement is about youth standing up and making a difference in the world..which it appears that they are doing a pretty great job at.

utubin67... get a clue.. why dont you call the office yourself and get your facts straight before you try to belittle a great thing. There are a lot of issues going on around the world. Why is being a HUMAN in Africa less important than being a human here? What are you doing for the poor in America yourself? Why are you trying to bring down a group of individuals who are making a difference in the lives of those who are in need of people with influence, Americans, to help out?

I am tired of the insults of people who sit on their ass watching TV instead of creating movements that tell our government we care. Government only acts when we tell them too, so unless you're written 70,000 letters recently for a cause, SHUT Up and educate yourself on this wonderful event, The Rescue, that involved 100,000 people across the entire world - not just in America!!!!!
aniu15228 2 years ago
my question initially was to inquire about the 'money' and I haven't gotten one answer yet. This website is accepting donations and I'm wondering where will the potentially millions of 'Oprah-Driven' dollars go? I have a right to know, and this 'movement' has to show this by law. So let me ask again, where can I go to see how the money moves from point a (the website) to point b (to the children). Will there be big wages paid to 'those who care' that would be a problem for me.
utubin67 2 years ago
All money goes directly to Invisible Children, a non profit group with its own home base in Uganda. No government takes money from the donations, it all goes straight into rebuilding schools and paying for jobs in Uganda. Look up the bracelet campaign and see how people with no income in camps have cash b/c of their work. And I as a volunteer have seen the schools we are rebuilding. Closed schools are opening again. So again, do not complain: get involved! invisiblechildren . com
aniu15228 2 years ago
I think it is perfectly normal for a 16-year old Ugandan girl to get kidnapped from her family, raped numerous times, escape from the bush when she could be killed for running away, come back to her village, and be rejected by her friends and family because she is carrying an LRA-members' child. This is just comfortable living, of course! This is the way they want to live, right, utubin67? I mean, they chose to live this way. That girl obviously chose to be traumatised for life and rejected.
jayfin4 2 years ago 2
everyone knows this goes on. The people to handle these atrocities are the United Nations, World Leaders need to come together on this maybe the question to ask is why don't they? Or, do they? Yes there's crimes being committed but crimes are committed here to- You think abductions don't happen in America? Have u seen a Milk carton lately? The difference is that in Africa these things happen in poor living conditions which make them appear more morose, truth is America is not much safer.
utubin67 2 years ago
the truth is is that America is worse off than most other country's sure we have advanced medicines, nice homes with big yards and white fences but there is so much oppression in this country that people don't see.. The best you see a man do in America there is another man doing equally poorly.. Other country's rather a more moral way of everyone living pretty much the same. Which way do you think is best. These problems are what people in America should be addressing.. lol not Africa.
utubin67 2 years ago
by the way I could go to Africa and make an equally convicing video of how African people love eachother, take care of eachother and how their family values make ours look pretty sad. How many American siblings don't even talk to eachother? How many divorces in this country? uh huh.. half of all marriages end in divorce.. make a video of why America is such a disgruntled population of people and I'll buy that video for sure!
utubin67 2 years ago
then do it.. go to africa..
rsisson619 2 years ago
Don't you think the entire World knows how African people live? If the World Leaders aren't going into Africa to change it, why are three rich American kids pretending they can do that. What about this, maybe Africa's ways are true to nature. Maybe America's ways are the craziest on the planet. If the USA is so advanced why aren't other country's emulating us? I'll tell u why, it's because some people refuse to live so unequally as we American's do- I wish I was born in Africa, I truly do.
utubin67 2 years ago
What if you were born in northern Uganda, then stolen from your family while you were still a child and forced to kill or be killed in a war? Wouldn't you want someone to help?
The young people in the video and at Invisible Children are just trying to help.

Why doesn't America help its own people first. If you think for one second that America helps its poor people you are in dire denial! Poor people in this country make grossly insufficient wages and live in communities where rent alone takes 2 or 3 jobs per household. Foodstamps per family is $140/month? Most people on welfare are prostitutes or drug dealers to make ends meet..America is riddled with injustice and disparate socio-economic conditions and it's always 'F' poor people, they're lazy!

lol @ 'getting rich of african kids' comment. a lot of people skipped work for this, or even lost their jobs so they could stick this out and be dedicated to the cause. this has nothing to do with money. we want to help and this is the best way we know how, because a lot of us AREN'T rich and don't have the funds to go into uganda and do something there. this is what we CAN do, and it IS making a difference.
but, be a cynic if you want. we know why we're doing what we're doing.

This event was to get the attention of legislators, celebrities and moguls who can make a difference
sox0533 2 years ago
Look you guys have to understand that America can't go country by country and make every country just like America. African people live the way they are comfortable living. Will they evolve into a better way? Well that's up to them, and at their pace, not ours. What do you plan to do to make a change? Ok put up a huge Trump Plaza for the kids to all sleep in, Then the Rebels take it over (duh), now what do we go to War with Africa too? How much thinking went into this?
utubin67 2 years ago
I agree completely utubin67. You are so educated on this. It is in fact, ridiculous to think that a ten year old Acholi boy shouldn't be forced to kill his best friend with an AK-47. That's just comfortable living! I'm with you on this bud.
In fact, I would rather we let Joseph Kony's rebel soldiers steal MORE children from their homes, their families, and their lives. Lets SUPPORT Kony's generals who rape Acholi daughters and whip Acholi sons. This is the way they're comfortable living, right?
jayfin4 2 years ago 2
Oh, so the children are comfortable being abducted and being forced into killing their people?? We're young people getting politically active and trying to make a difference. Don't think that Oprah is the only one we have contacted. Tons of Senators and government officials participated in the rescue. This isn't a publicicty stunt...we want this to end.
sox0533 2 years ago
get real jobs to those who went to Africa with a video camera that's not the end of the work cycle for you rich kids. go out and get jobs. don't try to get rich off poor African kids that's been done a billion times. You've been exposed. You're just common scammers cashing in on poor people and a sad video. What do you think people are stupid like Oprah? Oprah only got involved because 'Africa' was part of it. You guys really had it all down.. hook, line and banker!
utubin67 2 years ago

I think the website could give so much more information. We don't just want to know about the poor children who suffer, yea that's part of what is important of course. The site should also bio the three kids who appear to be the spearheaders.. who are they? where do they come from? why are they doing this? These questions need to be raised so the people can decide on whether this is legitimate or not.

people have things all wrong.
we weren't "worshiping" oprah. we were getting the attention of a giant mogul so we could get the word out about the invisible children (which apparently worked cause as soon as she aired, the site crashed) and go home.
we were in no way worshiping her.

I LOVE YOU ALL! This video is amazing. I cannot get it out of my head, it should seriously get recorded
dramasimms 2 years ago
there is no reason that because of this video that these people should now have an easy life by cashing in on this. If you wanted to highlight a disturbing reality in Africa and then walk away and go get a job like the rest of the world, well then fine. You'll have my respect. But if you start selling t-shirts, writing books, etc.. then you're a money sell-out and you tricked everyone. We shall see the true intentions of this 'invisible children' it should only be the children who benefit.

go to the invisible children website and watch the film. THEN you can criticize
mikphaya 2 years ago
I have watched it. I'm also a college graduate and do you think I haven't seen this before? I'd like to know who financed this excursion? Travel, food, equipment, security (if you had any)? who runs this? why so many secrets? names and banks please. It's only fair.
utubin67 2 years ago
Invisible Children has already managed to create films on this issue and pressure congress enough to get a senior level diplomat to help mediate in Uganda and they achieved a ceasefire and potential peace talks. How is that not evidence enough for you to understand that this organization is truly trying to do right in the world?
mikphaya 2 years ago
Invisible Children uses the money donated to orchestrate events like The Rescue, which has raised awareness across the globe for the last week. Imagine over a hundred cities hosting a rally, each rally has at least 1,000 in attendance and each of those 1,000 calls everyone they know to try to get someone of influence to come to the event.
mikphaya 2 years ago
To be completely honest, I'm only 14. A naive child who knows nothing about justice. Too young to know the difference between a quick buck and money through 15 minutes of fame. And who are you to be criticizing a group of people who try to make something of themselves while you have indeed done nothing? Why do you insist on repenting by being so bitter about people who make you feel that way? And why is it that they have to give up their whole life story so you can prove your point?
denominator01919 2 years ago 3

I'm sure Oprah has come to terms with her own naivety over these exact feelings of which I am sharing here. g'night.
utubin67 2 years ago
I mean, I know that everything in life needs money. Everything they've done to make this happen needed money. But you're just not getting the point. All this isn't just for money, which you make it seem. There's a deeper meaning of this that you can't just open your eyes for a quick second to see.
denominator01919 2 years ago 3
How can some American teens or 20 somethings change the culture of Africa? Okay you want a 'addaboy' you got it! But when you ask for my money you should tell me about the money part. I'm not a sucker whose going to give these kids a free pass in life as they pull the wool over my eyes with a sad video. My next qualm is that America can't change Africa. All Africa wants from this is money, and that's all the American kids want too. Nothing will change, think a/b Somolia pirates.. money, money!!
utubin67 2 years ago
Oprah you got suckered, hook, line & sinker baby!! Oprah even went as far as telling these 3 opportunists they should get a 'peace' award lololol.. For What for traveling to Africa with video cameras? You think these kids are the first to risk their life for fame and fortune? The military does that everyday and when they come home mamed or brain-damaged they barely get Disability Insurance! So, Oprah check yourself on the 'award' comment don't be such a sucker for 'on-air' beggars! go away Tri!

what are you talking about..

I want to know where the money goes, where I can track it when the money gets to Africa, and who are these guys on a personal level, socio-economic level, education level, etc. etc..
utubin67 2 years ago
And by the way, since none of this information was initially made available I think that that is worthy of notice because having been asked this information after the fact usually leads us down a path of deception. So just keep it in mind that these guys have separated themselves as 'human' beings by completely focusing on the African's and never talking about themselves. If I'm wrong, send me to where the information is. I want to know where the money goes.

utubin67 2 years ago
WOW. I think you should do your homework before you try to bag on these people. You do understand that the only money the people who crated Invisible Children have ever asked for was those bracelet and DVDs that go towards helping a certain child in Uganda go to school. They don't beg for money in every DVD they make. They only ask for help in raising awareness of the Ugandan kids that have been affected by the two-decade war.
denominator01919 2 years ago 2
I should do my homework? I went to their website invisiblechildren and they are asking for $12/mo. recurrent charges, they're asking for big one time donations, company matching dollar for dollar.. this whole website is all about money and if you try to register you will find that you're simultaneously filling out a donation form? So what are you talking about? did you go to the wrong website?
utubin67 2 years ago
The wealthy people have used poor people to get rich for a long, long, time now! I want to know if this is another one of those situations. These guys seem okay on the surface, but with all the talking these guys did, I know so much about the African children and culture but I know nothing about these 'invisible children' documentarians. I want to know who they are so I can make a decision on whether or not I trust them.
utubin67 2 years ago
If you really had something against these people for wanting to make a difference in the world, I think you should have gotten to know their story first. They seriously had no idea what they were going to accomplish when they first got to Africa. They have many videos, each telling a great story. They have a website for Christ's sake. And they're only motive would be to convince US world leaders to take a stand for those who can't in Africa against the LRA and Joseph Kony.
denominator01919 2 years ago 3
don't be so foolish I see businessmen at the forefront of this so called 'operation' another bunch of opportunists and why doesn't anyone address the issue of accountablitiy.. what is so wrong about people knowing about who these people are? Their background? Where donated money is going EXACTLY! Why are these areas always so vague? I'll tell you why.. because the rich 'educated' people know that the 'average class citizens' don't ask important questions. welcome to capitalism, get educated.
utubin67 2 years ago
But you're not thinking into this at all. You do realize all you're looking at is the money. If all they really wanted was money, they would've done a stupid commercial with green-screen backgrounds and a little asian kid from down the street, trust me I've seen it done before. You're not seeing that they're not doing these ridiculous, life-threatening things for a little extra cash. The people in Chicago asked Oprah to come because she's a powerful woman who they saw could actually do something
denominator01919 2 years ago 2
"all you're looking at is money"? That's what you said to me. Do I have to ask you if there is anything in this world that motivates American's more than money? Are you a normal person? America is Land of the Dollar! People do everything they do for a dollar! This conversation is getting silly. Yes Oprah could actually do something and that 'something' also has to do with 'money'. I don't have time to teach you about life, are you over 13 y/o?
utubin67 2 years ago
wait I have to correct myself.. there is 1 other thing that American's do want more than money.. that is FAME which these people who lead this 'operation' are already getting.. And don't you worry.. FAME most definitely leads to MONEY! I trust no one who pops up with a video camera and shows me poor kids in Africa I mean this is so rediculous I could go to a hundred countries with a video camera and show equally disturbing footage, setup a website & demand no one ask about the donation money?
utubin67 2 years ago
To be perfectly honest, all these young men who are on camera appeared to me to be 'kids of wealth'. Am I wrong? Well then where is the bio of the guys who put this together? What was their childhood like since their movie/video is about the lives of children? Since this movie/video is about poverty and oppression what socio-economic status defines these young men behind the cameras? I want to know!
utubin67 2 years ago
yes you're wrong, most of the people there couldnt even afford to eat most of the time, we were lucky we got donations of food!
IrelandPunk 2 years ago
Having been duped so many times by previous 'look how sad, donate now' campaigns, American's aren't so easily reaching into their pockets at least not without some access into where our donated money is going, and how do we see the 'real-life' impact our monies are making. Look, I'm not donating my money to some kids of weathly parent's who couldn't come up with a cool way to get rich so they thought by cooking up a recipe of 1.some risk 2.videos of 3rd world children 3. as for donations
utubin67 2 years ago
#1- how will 'invisible children' allow 'us' who donate our work-earned monies into the lives and world of these children? If we want to see how our donations impact these children in their 'real-lives', is that option available?
#2- This is very important, Okay, where does the donation money go? And I mean where does it go, what Bank? Who has power over the money? Who distributes the money? I would like names. How much of every dollar goes to the children? What the expenses, salaries, etc.?
utubin67 2 years ago
By the way, you DO know what these people in this video are doing, right? It's called The Rescue. These people in Chicago have waited SIX DAYS for Oprah to come for 5 minutes and 'rescue' them as they pose as abducted children. SIX DAYS. And the Ugandans have waited over TWENTY YEARS for someone, anyone, to give them back their hope and for someone to relieve them from the fear of the LRA.
denominator01919 2 years ago 2
I don't know these people from atom. We should all find out who their parents are since they are all young their biggest influences are their parents. so start there! Next, what schools did they go to? Where does the donated money go? for gods sakes is this a secret? Sounds as though from my questions people are attacking me for just asking questions. What does that say? Sounds like ignorance 100% pure to me!
utubin67 2 years ago
Part 1: I have 2b the 'devils advocate' here and though I must admit this story is as touching a story as one can find out here, I still must ask the following questions and admit to the following thoughts.
How can anyone blame me for being skeptical with all the corrupt organizations that have sprung up over the decades claiming to 'help the poor', 'feed the poor', 'clothe the poor'? So, I am asking the hard questions here and will await some hard, truthful answers on these questions.
