  • sos la mera verga

  • fk...ive been playing speed metal/neoclassical for 6 years on guitar.. and this mess is breaking my will on bass... this is.. humbling

  • bwahahaha i love slap and pop but i really suck at playing slap and pop mutes... so i'm going to be watching this vid ALOT!

  • stingray slurppppppppppp

  • All most gave up on slap& pop...

Learned it by your videos though.

    Great work,keep it up!

  • Great video, thanks for posting. Doing my best to learn it now. Trouble is i'm 49 and my hands just don't have the dexterity they did. I'm gonna get there though! Nice stringray by the way.

  • Thank you!!!!

  • you can play the chord with a flemenco style. that will also free up your plucking hand. but it sounds cool as is. don't mean to nit pik. your skilled.

  • I have been playing this for 3 hours straight, and my fingers all have burst blisters and are burning, but im still continuing to play it! XD this is fucking amazing! thanks! :]

  • also sounds alot like primus... primus sucks ;)

  • sexy bass

  • I think it comical that people post on here and tell you things YOU need to do. Clearly you need no coaching.

  • 6 guys are jealous of his talents D=

  • the ending beat is epic :D

  • i like this

  • people who hate slap probably can't do it themselves

  • Man your videos are off the chart!! I am a beginner and I've checked out several of your lessons and they are right on time. Thanks so much for time and instructions. Your videos motivate me to practice my butt off!!!

  • that's a really good song!!! I play bass guitar for a year now and have done it in an hour to play. This song is simply fun to play!!!!!!

  • got most of it down just need to get the slides 100% that should come with practice thanks very much tho another great lesson

  • i love going into a music shop and playing this...it's an easy riff (but fast) but you feel like a god walking out of the shop lol. thanks for the lessons :) helped my playing a lot!

  • @cameronj279 Glad to hear it :)

  • @cameronj279

Jeez, that's a little arrogant. You go into music stores to impress people? I go in to try gear that I'm thinking about buying, or to pick up supplies like picks or strings, not to try and impress people with mediocre slap licks thinking I'm a god.

  • @WoWintosh okay first things first, that was just rude....i could even say you were "arrogant". this riff was the first thing i ever learned that involved playing slap so i was happy i could play it. i rarely go in music shops, and you completely took my comment out of context.

  • I can probly bet you put heavier gauge strings on and probly bowed the neck

  • @dirtyjerseyrecords Nah, I just need to lower the action :)

  • the action on a sting ray is SUPER LOW there is not much pressure needed to fret the not

  • @dirtyjerseyrecords Not on mine :( really need to sort it out!

  • @dirtyjerseyrecords

The action on ANY bass can be set really low or really high. Who says that a P bass has high action, a warwick has medium action and a stingray has low action? A dumbass, that's who.

  • awesome!!!

  • you sir, are too cool

  • Ello Govna

  • woowww i think ure better than flea no jk!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • every time when i play bass and i try slap D or G string I olways hit differenrt strings ass well, for fak seek why i do it wrond? maybe it's gonna be better if i stay by normal electric guitar?

  • @damiankolno No, stick with it! Go through my vids, and look for a video on "Slap precision" :)

  • i like the bassline better when its played slowly:)

  • how old are you now???

  • @vobinkreck 34 :)

  • @Dmanlamius76 that makes me happy :) i still got 15 years to get your monstorous skill yay :D

  • How high is your action? Mine is like in the middle, but I can't figure out if I need to raise or lower them to slap on the G string.

  • What bass are you using?

  • I@Kikianbassplayer its an ernie ball musicman stingray :)

  • Great groove haha =D

  • Love it and thanks for the tips!!

  • dude i love this!

  • Very cool thank you man! you mentioned in one of your other videos that you would possibly make a tutorial on how to turn bass scales into riffs, did you ever make a video on that? cause that would be awesome. Thank you, you are one of the clearest bass teachers ive found

  • with this video ,iam very...............enjoy

  • When I slap the string with my thumb, it hits the next fret over making a clack type of sound. Is that normal or is my action too low?

  • @quinton145 It could be that you're slapping too hard. See what happens if you ease it up a bit. Or, turn the treble down on your bass/amp, and turn your Bass up, thats normally the problem.

  • When I slap the string with my thumb, it hits the next fret over making a clack type of sound. Is that normal or is my action too low?

  • sounds like sienfield music lol...

  • @Mrjayceedee The seinfield theme tune is slap and pop as well :)

  • @Dmanlamius76 As upsetting as it is, the Seinfeld theme song is played on Keyboards.

That's why it souds so perfect.

  • You got the best bass lesson all over the internet! Thank you!

And you probaly know answer of this question :P

I can slap all strings, but i strugle slap then pop.

    Got any tips?

  • @CrazyRoofProductions Its just a case of practice, practice, practice! Do my beginner slap and pop vids, and do them real slow, until you can get the pops comfortably.

  • dude your always in the funk, right?

  • dude you are awesome!

  • Id love to get my hands on the same bass you got there. But im a little unsure what kind of guitar it is.. Please tell me :D Currently im using a LTD B50, but want somthing a little more different. Thanks for great vids

  • Yo Dman this is a sick vid it really helped bro. Also What bass is that? It looks like a Vintage est9 or something ?

  • @ojb1989 Glad it helped! It's a musicman stingray :)

  • Thankyou! About 15 years now?

  • @Dmanlamius76 wow! what age did you started?

  • @raikirie14 I was 17 :)

  • @Dmanlamius76 did u teach yourself

  • @Dmanlamius76

Woo, i know feel hopeful hehe. I started when I was 17, I'm 18 now haha.

Learning this as i type, it's very juicy.

  • you should change or boil your strings ;) sounds so much better, specially when you slap and pop :) nice bass line by the way ;)

  • Boil strings, what does that do???

  • all the shit on your strings will go away.. And you will get a new crispy sound :D

  • Aw man, thats crazy, I've never heard of that before, I shall away and boil haha peace and cheers for the info!

  • boil like put them in boiling water?

  • boil ur strings??? do explain lol

  • boil. as in water?

  • @simenandreas boil the strings?

  • @simenandreas Boiling your strings is a common fallacy, it doesn't help the strings, it might make them brighter for a while but if anything they will be more rust-prone and you'll have to change them more often. A better method is to use a clean cloth or a string cleaner and just wipe your strings down after playing :)

  • I play guitar and I love the sound of slap and pop fuck snobs slap that shit man

  • i got it but i cant seem to make it sound like yours when i play faster

  • meh, not really refined technique, very flea-ish, not deep or double thump

  • @myhouseisyourpants: It really doesn't matter how "refined" the technique is or how hard something is to play, what matters is the music!

Thanks for this, dmanlamius, i love all your stuff on youtube and you've really helped me progress as a bass player and as a musician in general. You've even helped me to learn to learn by ear, you can't normally find tabs or music of your songs. ;-)

PS: and that technique is pretty damn tight!!!

  • @montezuma911 No problem man! Glad you enjoyed it! :)

  • Cool lesson. Thanks.

  • fuckin amazing slap pop man

  • do you reccomend this to beginners

  • in the video he recommends it do immediate guys ;)

  • no, i recommend a decent player to beginners. im gettin a new bass tomorrow(ibanez SR300M) and can post some decent videos and lessons

  • StingRay?

  • what make and model is that bass mate?

  • Im pretty sure its a Musicman Bass.

Not sure what model tho =S

  • stingray

  • thanks man :)

  • Yh, Musicman Stingray

  • @Vgarvey music man stingray

  • haha. this is quite groovy! i can't stop doing this!

  • Dude do you have facebook ?

  • hi nice one !!!

for the bass ligne and for the lesson and at the end thanks for the drums playback for training...

    the frenchie M.B. bass

    see you soon

  • My goddamn pickups keep getting in the way when I slap the G string...grrrr

  • Lower them.

  • man bass is sssooo funky

  • 1:15 Les Claypool does use that technique, but quite different. he doesn't pop both string but just opens his fist against both string to get the same sound.

Not really different. Just harder and less sound getting out of it in my opinion.

  • its called flamenco strumming.

  • what kind of person doesn't like muted slapping!?!?

  • sick sick people...

  • nice music man dude

  • so how do i get to 456?..didnt see a link.

    ty! good stuff

  • cool slap and pop techniques, this is where i need more work ... subscribing to you video, thanks bro :-)

  • your a good teacher. and its nice to let people in on how to play your stuff. when i heard the intro, i thought 'i wont be able to do this.. no way.' but by the end of it i was almost playing along with the drum track. cheers mate.

  • Dmanlamius, many people comment about all the differences between ernie ball basses and olp basses, someone said a big difference beteween these, in the frets, is that true?

  • Hey Scooty20, me too!!!! lucky for us, there's people like him, who can play freakin awesome and are nice enough to show us how =P

  • Great groove and such, well explained, overall great video.

    Keep it up dude

  • Great idea putting the loop at the end. You dont get it very often. You're also pretty good at explaining. Good work.

  • You sir, are a genius.

  • YEAH YOU'VE A REALLY NICE BASS MAN !

  • wicked vids man well done.... 5 stars

  • hey, your videos are very helpful but i was hoping you could make more in the cool funk lines to play series, preferably easier ones that youve uploaded already, thanks

  • that is a sexy bass line

    but im a begginer

    and this kicked my ass

    someday maybe

  • Glad they help you! :)

  • man...i love this lesson...you are a true inspiration for me...the muted slap/pops are a lil' bit tricky for me, but i'm sure, i'll get it

  • Is it tottaly out of line to ask u what strings do you use?:P

  • I'd like to know this too man plz! wicked ass beat by the way!

  • Hey man! These are just Ernie balls that came with the bass. They look like a medium gauge to me :)

  • How often do you need to change out your strings?

  • see i do death metal, metal , rock at the softest but this is alright and a nice way to broaden bass knowledge and gonre!! so thz man!!

  • WOW! How long have you been playing?!

  • fantastic, cheers bud.

  • another great video dude, although this is out of my skill range for now, it's something to aspire too

  • sweet something a bit trickyer, my bass hardly makes a noise when i slap the a string though

  • Awesome stuff as always... THANKS!

  • what gauge strings are u using

  • Lol I cant slap anymore cus my bass' neck has curved its really old planning on getting a new one and also the strings are really tight
