To anyone watching this in high school; don't go to college and focus on one thing as soon as you're out of school unless you're sure it's what you want to do. I wasted thousands of dollars on learning a few things from psychology (was going for chem teacher; loved the teaching portion, despised the courses).
FYI. I'm 21, I have 3,000$ saved, (from working part-time) and I just got more hours at work. Within 7 months, I'll hit 5 digits. And I live on my own.
I have no debt. Almost no responsibilities. I am free. My only actual worry is that the government will fuckup the economy so bad that my money will not be worth anything in the future. Besides that life is sweet.
This is not to say college is pointless, merely that it's not an absolute.

This hits the nail on the head, except for the part about law school. Lawyers make a lot of money. Law school is not grad school, we don't study useless crap. Law school, med school, dentistry, grad school for sciences or engineering is something else entirely.
I think most people are missing the point of this video. A sense of humor is definitely needed to enjoy this video and see the real meaning behind it. It's not knocking individuals who want to better themselves and attain higher education to better their life. It's knocking individuals who go to college to only party and "do something" without actually setting achievable goals. Around 35% of people who go to college drop out by their third year, around 20% stay in college for over 5 years to basically postpone the real world, about 25% will end up working at mcdonalds or walmart after they graduate, and only about 20% actually graduate and get a career for what they went to college for in the first place. What do they all have in common? They have mountains of debt.

because two of those four years are spent on general education classes that have nothing to do with your degree, the other two are hardcore years that have everything to do with your degree. You take 15 credits per semester, and most programs require 125 credits.....

This is actually pretty close to how I feel while I'm in college. The way things are set up just aren't practical until you're interning and getting hands on experience... Until you're taking the knowledge and applying it to something tangible it's all for naught.

@PookieBearxD given the scope of the grammatical butchery in your post, i think you could use a good bit more knowledge before you try "applying it for all it's naught" anytime soon. for the safety and well being of us all. you don't say "while" to suggest something that you are already doing. it's "isn't", not "aren't" - that's a basic tense rule you should've learned before middle school. and "naught" means "nothing." the only thing naught is your last sentence, it' has no meaning.

@holdoncaulfield3 We go to kindergarten to prepare for grade school which prepares us for middle school which gets you ready for high school so that you can prepare for college in which if all goes well gives you a certification to find employment. Thats the western educational system in a nutshell, genius. I have NEVER met anyone who went to college for the fun of learning. The people who run the world with their degrees only got them to actually "qualify" for those positions.

@holdoncaulfield3 I never meant to imply that all subjects in grad school was 100% useless, but getting anymore than a minor in things like Creative Writing or English (unless your planning making a career out of teaching it) is a waste of time to me. I've met some people just like this in this parody, and I strongly believe there's a difference between an intellectual pursuit and actually being hireable.

@victoneter , you are studying in college what you will be doing for the rest of your life, so if you don't enjoy it, then you will not enjoy your career. I do enjoy studying my major, a lot actually. If I did not I would not be majoring in it, and would not be wholly looking forward to spending the rest of my life practicing it. So many people go to college because they think it is what is expected of them, don't enjoy what they study, and end up hating their job.

I mean if you enjoy spending tens of thousands of dollars just to study a major that you dont plan to use for a job then go for it. While you chose to go to college and get a job just for money and greed, I've spent the last seven years of my life studying what I have an insatiable passion for. You feel like you have some obligation to work, while I will never have to truly work a day in my life. Would you still work if you weren't getting payed? I would.

because two of those four years are spent on general education classes that have nothing to do with your degree, the other two are hardcore years that have everything to do with your degree. You take 15 credits per semester, and most programs require 125 credits.....

well I am a graduate student and I find this hilarious, and sadly I gotta do grad school but I am doing it with peace corps so it isn't too bad. though people have told me on youtube that peace corp is for wimps and isn't the real world. Then their jaws drop when they see my resume. I worked for a yr before going back to grad school. Nothing wrong with extra education if you're in the position to do it. I say do it. real world as americans put it is overrated

@nts4906 Philosophy is something you can pursue in your own free time and through life experiences. One can be a qualified medical doctor and still know plenty about the works of various philosophers. Knowledge can be attained anywhere and any time. College is for getting qualifications.
