To a couple comments below, this clip isn't the "breakout" ~ that was a year earlier ('86) at the same venue. First one since '73. This one is kind of the one-year anniversary version......same venue, and again in the second show of three.
Thought we we're gonna bring the roof down. It was such a blast when they broke out with this. I was in my 2nd yr of college at New Paltz & had been singing this around campus a couple of days before. I told a friend I wanted to hear it & he laughed at me, stated it had been some yrs since they'd pulled it out. Can't help to feel it was a gift. Put a smile on my face then, and still does now !! Miss them so much ~
Phil's muff at 2:18 and Jer's cracking up are priceless. Love Phil to death, but boy, he sure can't sing! Before doing Rain on this tour, I believe Phil hadn't sung for like 800 shows.
I was about ten feet front and center from the stage--with a friend I had brought to her first Dead show (Hi Molly, if you're out there!!). Some of our friends put us both up on their shoulders for the whole song, and we were right in front of Phil the whole time. The crowd completely drowned out the music to the point where they had to up the amplification a LOT!
The whole place exploded with this so much that you couldn't even hear the music over the audience when they broke into this ! ! Hampton shows were some of the best ! !

Met my wife of 20 years at this show, and we were sitting on Phil's side!

Love the irony of the momentary lapse of memory.
