I agree, why DO people keep putting annoying music on their really good videos?
I think this guy seems to have some good info, and also it seems he knows what he is talking about and has experience, but we cannot benefit because we have to keep turning the volume DOWN! What a shame, what a loss....
really cant hear whats going on, also didnt understand if your suppost to just dump more soil on top of the leaves after adding another tyre?? wouldnt that cover the green leaves?
yeah, u cover the bottom green leaves so the top are just sticking out. they will grow up again then you cover the bottom leaves again. as they grow higher the potato's form all the way up the structure. afterward you kick them over an ur tattys are lying there - voila
I don't. I put the seed potatoes in the bottom tyre only and as the plant grows to the top of the collum your potatoes will grow all the way up. It worked very well for me the last few years, I think the sun heating the tyres and therefore the earth around them helps. (Curious: did anyone else have a relativly low crop compared to last year? Everyone I know has experienced this...)
Thank you since I can't hear because of the annoying music in the background and the poor sound quality. Why do people put stupid music behind instruction videos? DUH!
Yes I thought of that ... the problem is this attracts termites. Anything which has a lot of cellulose like bamboo, cane, etc has a lot of cellulose and termites will come flocking. This is why you should never have logs, wood, or any kind of cellulose debris lying around in your garden.
This is my first year trying to grow potatoes and I heard of this method being done before. When do you know when to put the next tire on? Do you just cover the leaves? Thanks for the video.
Thanks for posting this info man. I am going to totally change how I water my garden now. I will use empty one gallon spring water bottles to fill up clay pots buried next to each plant.
Very nice, I saw an alternative version made out of that 'bamboo' fencing wrapped around to make a cylinder standing upright, for those that are worried about any chemicals leeching from the tyres this might be a better alternative. Otherwise great video. :)
I have heard the chemicals harmful were long ago released through the wind etc. and that others are totally bound, not to be released through mild organic forces of dirt.
i just watched another clip here on youtube about growing potatoes - no dig, and the fellow was using bamboo (like a mat of bamboo reeds) - that's natural......
then when it was time to harvest he just removed the bamboo mat, and voila harvested the potatoes. I thought that was kind of neat.
did you film this with a potato ?

I would be very wary about planting potatoes in old tyres due to polutants in the rubber

I am another who could not hear the words. do you add more seed potatoes as you add more tires or just keep covering the leaves from bottom plants?

Thanks for trying though.

there is a little chemical leaching but you breath more tire residue in a week of an avg american commute than a tire will leach in 100 years.
So with a little math 1 week of commuting = 33 years of tire tower potatoes.

Id use ANYTHING organic to grow them if I could...
Learning some things here tonite about organic growing that I never thought of.
Especially using plastics. Buckets, hoses..
Saw a thing on ABC tonite about the lead content in garden hoses..... WOW!
Check your hoses man! hahah
Thought I was as organic as I could be.. Wrong!
Plastic leaching can be very bad.. PVC?
