Exactly, it's showing us a butterfly effect... NOT as a result of the plane never having crashed, because that's not what was changed in the original timeline. It was that ginormous freaking nuclear explosion on Mystery Island waaay back in 1970-whatever that changed, creating the new alternate timeline we're seeing now. Which means what we're actually seeing is the butterfly-effect of everything that's happened differently since Dharma's Big Boom occurred thirty-something YEARS ago.
I think that the two time periods should be titles like in Back to the Future 2. If you determine which time period is "alternate", denote that one with an "A". Time periods would be 2004 and 2004A.
Flocke is recruiting Sawyer for his old job. He needs a replacement before he can go free. Kinda like the Gennie in a bottle.
Flocke is the one who was in charge of protecting the Island. Jacob kept bringing new people to the island. Why would he keep bringing people to the island if he was in charge of protecting it? It would be easier to protect the island if nobody ever came to the island.

So I think that in a flash at the end of Episode 3 we got to see the reality of Rousseau. That, in fact, she was the one that was infected. And she systematically murdered her whole party including the father of her child. That would go far to explain her story inconsistancies when recounting for the survivors and her odd behavior in general (along with other stuff, but I am running out of characters to type and just wasted more by typing) Claire's infection state shows the truth of Rousseau

Dear Mr. James, any thoughts on how we've had two episodes so far with a continuous string of flashsideways? as opposed to independent event flashes per episode as in the other seasons? Maybe the X means that 10 hours after they landed something will happen if they continue to show linear flashes.

Just to support my earlier comment, some of the Christian references in Lost: the titles: Exodus, Stranger in a Strange Land, 316 (as in, John 3:16), The 23rd Psalm. Christian Shephard. And the other elements, John saying Ben was a Pharisee, Ben saying fake Locke was like Moses leading the people, the story about the doubting Thomas, the story of Josiah finding the Book of Law... on and on.
There are a lot more, and there are, of course, nearly as many Egyptian references as Christian
Can the substitute relate to LA X? We could substitute something for X there.
The other thought is that substitute could be related to Christianity. Jesus was the substitute in that his death substituted for the penalty we should have paid for our sins. So, we refer to the substitutionary sacrifice, or the atonement. We have seen Locke called a savior (the one who saves us all), and in the promo picture of the Last Supper, he assumed Jesus' place. So, can the real Locke be resurrected?

I loved this episode, mainly because Kate didn't suck as much as I thought and the rest of the episode rocked. As for why Jacob touched people, I believe he marked people who would be candidates to take his place as the new custodian of the island. Those who are "claimed" will become the next smokey when the MIB either dies or manages to go home.
So, back to what you were saying about October 22nd and 10 days later being the day Aaron was born on the island...why do you think this is significant? Will Aaron be crucial to the two timelines possibly converging in the future?

I think Jacob("Free Will") and Smokey("Fate") are playing a game to see if humanity can be saved. Jacob thinks that humans can choose to change and be "cleansed" of their evil nature. Smokey does not. If Jacob wins, he redeems the Losties. If Smokey wins, he gets to kill them. Thoughts?
Its interesting how Ethan is off the Island yet we know he couldnt have left on the sub at the time of the incident in the original timeline because we see that he went on to become an other. Unless he left and came back.

Wait, but Doc Ethan said Claire is 36 weeks along- right? Pregnancies go for 40 weeks- that means she'd be due in 4 more weeks.
If it is Oct 22, 2004- that would mean she's not due until November 19... assuming Ethan wasn't rounding up or down. (she could be due the 18th or the 20th.)

So I think that in a flash at the end of Episode 3 we got to see the reality of Rousseau. That, in fact, she was the one that was infected. And she systematically murdered her whole party including the father of her child. That would go far to explain her story inconsistancies when recounting for the survivors and her odd behavior in general (along with other stuff, but I am running out of characters to type and just wasted more by typing) Claire's infection state shows the truth of Rousseau

cont.d .... at which point he may remember the other Losties (just like a lot of people think it seems like he recognized them in S1E1), from knowing them all from that day in LA X. It is possible by the way that this happened even though they crashed years ago and we just saw them explode the bomb. Remember it was in 1977 when they exploded it, that means that during 815 crash the Boom world already existed, we just didn't know about it until know.

I think it's important to note that on island, everyone else except Jack seems to have some sort of extra knowledge (or Deja vu): Kate remembers Charlie (just like Des did in the Constant), Locke knows it's gonna rain (just like Des did too), Rose knows Bern is alive, etc... On LA X Jack seems to be the only one going through this. Maybe we'll see Jack disappear from LA X at one point and appear on the island, as in S1E1, and at which point he may .... cont.d

Remember in S1E1 when Jack says he blacked out? we never saw him on the plane from the turbulence on. I strongly believe that his counciousness traveled to LA X Jack (just like Des in The constant), and that's why Des was familiar to him, from him meeting Des in Dud world on the track. But LA X Des has not met Jack. Maybe jack's Dad isn't dead in boom world and that's why there's no record of a coffin, because Jack's mind from Dud world is in LA X believing his father died. Dear Mr. James, any thoughts on how we've had two episodes so far with a continuous string of flashsideways? as opposed to independent event flashes per episode as in the other seasons? Maybe the X means that 10 hours after they landed something will happen if they continue to show linear flashes.
Also, maybe Desmond (who seems to be the only one off the island in both worlds) will have part in gathering all the losties and getting them to the island, or somewhere since the island is underwater

James mentioned that because Sayid is "claimed" he can only be killed if he willingly takes the pill. This reminded me of the scene in "The Shape of Things to Come", where Ben and Charles talk.

Your theory about the X in LA X being 10 is so crazy it might actually be right. I mean, the fact that Aaron was born in the alt. timeline exactly ten days before he did in the original has to mean something.

Wow, I totally did not catch the date in 04 boom world. I agree that Claire may have died at season 4, and for some reason I think that Christian is claimed as well which is why his body is never found. Once again another great recap! You're research and ideas are much deeper than mine..lol

Just to support my earlier comment, some of the Christian references in Lost: the titles: Exodus, Stranger in a Strange Land, 316 (as in, John 3:16), The 23rd Psalm. Christian Shephard. And the other elements, John saying Ben was a Pharisee, Ben saying fake Locke was like Moses leading the people, the story about the doubting Thomas, the story of Josiah finding the Book of Law... on and on.
There are a lot more, and there are, of course, nearly as many Egyptian references as Christian

Can the substitute relate to LA X? We could substitute something for X there.
The other thought is that substitute could be related to Christianity. Jesus was the substitute in that his death substituted for the penalty we should have paid for our sins. So, we refer to the substitutionary sacrifice, or the atonement. We have seen Locke called a savior (the one who saves us all), and in the promo picture of the Last Supper, he assumed Jesus' place. So, can the real Locke be resurrected?

Claire = New Rousseau. Her baby is missing, she's alone in the jungle, and she's acting weird.
The water = why Ben is alive. The water was clear when Ben was healed, but when Sayid was healed, the water was muddy. I smell smoke.

I loved this episode, mainly because Kate didn't suck as much as I thought and the rest of the episode rocked. As for why Jacob touched people, I believe he marked people who would be candidates to take his place as the new custodian of the island. Those who are "claimed" will become the next smokey when the MIB either dies or manages to go home.

I think Jacob("Free Will") and Smokey("Fate") are playing a game to see if humanity can be saved. Jacob thinks that humans can choose to change and be "cleansed" of their evil nature. Smokey does not. If Jacob wins, he redeems the Losties. If Smokey wins, he gets to kill them. Thoughts?

Its interesting how Ethan is off the Island yet we know he couldnt have left on the sub at the time of the incident in the original timeline because we see that he went on to become an other. Unless he left and came back.
