Why the fuck does DuVall always get the audience to sing "I'd feel better dead"?? Fans don't usually sing along to this song too loudly, just because of the sheer emotion of it and the fact that Layne fucking ownes it in every way. For Duvall to do a singalong pisses me off. Especially that line.

@MsBrit78 I think it's because it resonates with the audience. I don't sing at all, but I have found myself singing those words when I listen to the song. Every time Duvall sings this song, a legend is remembered, and for that I'm grateful.

@jaaywil Looking back, my comment was a little angry, but I've calmed down now :) No, you're right, it does resonate, and I also sing that line, and it is that line that basically reflects everything that Layne was singing about in this song. But, my problem is that Duvall doesn't let it occur naturally or gracefully, he treats it like any old singalong song. I am also grateful that we can hear these songs and remember Layne. Duvall is part of us now. But I just don't feel his emotion :(

I love this band, saw them in Washington State twice in the early 90's, I like the idea of the new stuff, and that it is in a way keeping the old stuff alive. Live, Duvall is pretty good, though. His vocal similarity to Staley is astonishing. It's difficult to tell through such a mediocre audio recording, but he's more than adequate to keep the band (and my interest) going.

unfortunately, I just started listening to AIC (and this type of music) just recently (this year). So, although I absolutely LOVE Layne Staley (I have an awesome tattoo of him on my ankle)., I never got to see him perform, or listened to the band when he was alive. Which I'm very sad about. I agree, William does not have the voice that Layne had, but no one does,. , it was an exciting concert, and I'm willing to give them a chance, again, since I'm not as biased as a longtime fan would be.

He's the reason I became interested in AIC recently. I don't think Duvall sounds like him, but the band does have a right to make music. and some people think it's okay. i loved them live and think Jerry, Mike and Sean are amazing. Ideally, without an actual resurreciton, someone that sounded AND looked like Layne would be awesome.

Dude, listen to yourself. Of course the 90's era of Alice in Chains is the most memorable. But still you have to understand that Cantrell and co. lived Alice in Chains as well. The band didn't die with Layne, bless his soul. All though this is Laynes lyrics, his pain. I feel William is a great new front person and he looks like an old seventies rock star.
