The "moonballs" are effective because Wawrinka has a one-handed backhand. I'm a little surprised that Wawrinka didn't step forward and take them early, but knowing Roger they were probably loaded up with a good bit of topspin.
So many students of mine don't understand the importance of good net clearance citing that "Pros hit balls that go straight." Maybe this video will help them understand.

lol All of Federer's moonballs turned up short. If Wawrinka was a two hander, he'd probably have attacked them.
Maybe it was a strategical changeup? Too many players hit deep moonballs as a changeup, so Federer decided to change that tactic into short moonballs? lol They can no longer take it on the rise from the baseline! Success! lol
When i saw the title i though it must be a mistake - i have never seen them play against each other. I knew they rocked when they were on the same side of the court, but this is almost better than that! :D
