None of this messed with my engine the only way it would is if you have an 02 sensor in or after your cat. The rest is simply welding and pipes, you can buy a pre made y pipe to weld to you down pipe, and the rest is simple fabricating it back to where you want your exhauste to dump at.
hey thats wiked! sorry im kinda confused here.my 1996 inline 6 is 100% stock exhaust right now can i put what you got on my truck with out messing with my engine?
Hahah yeah i know the shot was reversed looks real weird, vacumm line to the smog pump sorry in what context is your question lol? But anyway i scraped the truck it had so much blow by it would sputter teribbly while exelerating it was shooting blow by out every open whole and oil was all over the place, but oh well I got another truck so lifes good.
Well for the exhaust yeah it will make it louder and sound different as for the AIR pump that will free up horse power seeing that it's belt driven it take power to run it, as far as the other stuff you could keep it but i would keep the egr valve on the engine, unless of course there are delete kits out there, if your really worried about the egr running just unhook the vacume line you won't throw engine codes and everything will be stock.
Yeah but shortly afterwards the rings were shot and it had terrible blow by so i ended up scraping it and buying a 1981 with a 300, i might put an exhaust on it but i don't know yet. You have any suggestions?
@dirteeter32 Oops, my mistake. It is a 4 wd. and the exhaust won't get wrapped around the front shaft if it's on the dr's side. Should watch the details more carefully.
I just have a van with that engine & 2wd. Camera reversed...ha, ha,...
Yeah attention to detail i'm surprised no one else has noticed. I say some of your videos and dam I must say your engine looks and sounds like it just came off the line lol, What year and how many miles are on the engine? I just picked up a new truck with the same motor with the good old fashioned carb instead of efi.
@dirteeter32 '82 Ford Van. Lorraineville, Ohio. '82 bottom end with '85 pedestal rocker head. Zirgo 3000 cfm rad fan. Powder metal seats, and SBI valves. @ 205 psi. compression gives better torque/driveability. The 1bbl carb is hard to beat.
@ 12-14 000 km. on rebuilt engine. It developed a weird vacuum reading and stumbling at idle. I can't explain how one plug wire suddenly read @ 8000 ohms on the ohm meter. An old mag wire I had cured the stumble and restored vacuum.
Hmm this all sounds good. So if i use a head off of 1994 would that work and be good? whats better about the pedestal head? if i use the 94 head would it be a good idea to use the push rods and valve train from that head or should i use the valve train that i have on the truck now? I'm really interested, will this do much performence wise or flow? i was planing on swapping in my old efi exhauste manifolds for better flow, instead of that single out let log on there lol.
@dirteeter32 As far as price goes, the pedestal swap is cheapest. imagine paying a machine shop to install ARP studs, and align them 'exactly' to the valveguide centerline? So, the pedestals are unique in that the bolt hole in the pedestal is kinda oval. This allows fore and aft adjustment to get precise geometry. You can file the holes in the base guide plate oval too. If you don't get custom length p,r,'s, you can use pedestal shims. Any 5/16" pushrod will do (heat treated, correct length).
@dirteeter32 The only drawback of the single outlet exh.man. is that the heat riser valve leaks exhaust past the dowel pin. Removing the heat-riser valve and plugging the pivot-pin holes with a suitable self-tapping bolt should work. You really can't use the 1bbl carb with the EFI dual as the log manifold keeps the carb from freezing? Most critical things are valve lash and geometry. Verify proper geometry with a Sharpie marker rubbed on the valve stem tip.
@dirteeter32 If the rubbed off area is centered after 1 crank revolution, you're ok.
Keep in mind that torqueing the pedestal bolts down also tightens lash.Lash is correct if the valves can be heard ticking when the carb starts to run out of fuel. When started cold, vacuum should be @ 20 in/hg, then rise to about 23 in.
You can hone the rocker shims to precision on a small whetstone. It is tricky to get perfect lash and geometry.
@dirteeter32 The pedestals give rocker shaft precision(with adjustability), while the ball rockers can adapt to irregularly installed valves, but generate more friction, and studs are immoveable. I'm just giving the options that are cheapest and give the best stock upgrade. The old heavy-duty 300-6's had forged cranks and were used in dump trucks. These cranks can withstand 600 hp. That's getting quite dangerous, I feel.
@dirteeter32 One other important detail is distributor fit. That silly clamp that holds the distributor down should be supplanted with a proper clamp. I made one from a piece of 1/4 in. plate. Drill hole same size as the dist. base then drill hole for the stock 5/16 in. hold down bolt. Then cut a slit in the ring and weld 2 nuts to the ends. Install a hex socket bolt as the clamp bolt. Dist. will nover rotate on its' own again.
@dirteeter32 . How are you man? Did your engine light turn on when you took cats off? Can you explain this comment? Did you lose power? Affect anything in the engine? Did the exhaust change lead to problems? You regret doing it? thanks.
@cyberpine The cel was always on so i dont think it affected anything but my motor was shot. It had nothing to do with the changing the exhaust my rings went bad, you best bet is to go with welded mufflers or somekind of flowmasters, do a whole cat back or go with no cats.
How loud is your truck from outside?

dude u should have kept the pipes seperated instead of putting them togeather...i have my 1992 cadillac deville straight piped

@dirteeter32 Theres a pipe that goes from the smog pump "T" and goes to the exhaust before the cat.

yeah i deleted the whole smog pump system on the truck. no cats no pump no air injection to the head, i had it all gone.
