"What's the point in killing me? I don't feel THAT important..." That's kind of sad to hear... This guy didn't have a clue how necessary all four members were to make it as big as they did. although regarding the "killing" bit, no, there's no point... then again, there was no point in killing John. the guy who shot him was a derranged loon. That's what made it even more terrible, the fact that it was absolutely pointless.
At the end of the day they all loved each other no matter what anyone says, yes there was times where they mabye didnt see eye to eye but that can be expected like every friendship. RIP George xxx
Being from as humble beginnings as George began in life, and going through the Beatles experience with the 3 others who also came from similar beginnings, therefore, helping keep each other VERY grounded, thinking of it in this way, it isnt too difficult to understand why it is that he would say that he didnt feel 'that important'..but in fact, he was and still is very important, as are the other 3..for me anyway, theyve given me great joy and happiness listening to all of their music and charm,
@TwoUselessLegs- If you read the court report George was found guilty of 'subconscious plagarism' which basically means it wasn't proven that he actually intentionally copied it, but that there were similarities that couldn't be explained ...
When you're writing with Lennon and McCartney everything you do is going to seem bad... they all had so many songs. Don't get me wrong some of George's stuff was bad as was John and Paul's but he wrote some amazing songs and played some awesome guitar.
How can you say his music was that bad? Paul McCartney hit it spot on "The Beatles were a square, without any of the corners it would collapse"... George wrote more than 2 or 3... I am not saying he was as good as Lennon but god he was awesome... he played the sitar as a gimmick when he started and admitted that he was never to going to make it as a sitar player but there's a reason he was the first of the Beatles to have a number 1 and why is such a respected guitarist... bit harsh me thinks...
I hate how George was so under rated because of how quiet he was. George was AWESOME!!! I'd pay anything to see him play. George seemed like a really nice guy. It's so sad that he died so soon.
the lives of all beatle are larger than life itself...the most emotional , the most greatest, the most admirable.....story of all time....THE BEATLES' LIFE
And no, George didn't even credit himself with those songs in the first place. He just sang. That would be like Ringo taking credit for Yellow Submarine. Having someone sing your song is a compliment to you, not them.
And don't challenge John Lennon and Paul McCartney's arrogance with anyone in the Beatles.
LOL! They NEVER played better guitar than George! Here Comes the Sun and While My Guitar Gently Weeps are really some of the best Beatles songs with guitars out there! Not to mention that short solo on Let it Be.
it's so ironic that he says how he doesn't know why anyone would want to kill him, when just a few years after this someone broke into his house and stabbed him 7 times attempting to kill him (obviously failing). sad world.
yes narcistic derogatory anythings directed at georges honesty...need to check yourself. he was the beatle..not you...your a pc croucher with only a dream to view
if this is considered 'bitching', the stuff john and paul said in interviews after the beatles broke up would be considered as horrendously childish whining
all the history of the beatles must have all been written by now (they split up 40+ yrs ago)so for norman to say mccartney twists history is pathetic.any wrong facts paul recounts can be checked in any 1 of a million books that have been written about the beatles, maybe the author is just anti paul & ringo cos he preferred john & george?
george harrison should've been glad he had the chance to be part of the best rock band ever. he should be glad that paul & john even let him be in their band. he should've been glad that they didn't just call themselves "mccartney, lennon & those other guys". it's too late now. now i will always see him as the ungrateful beatle. he would've been NOTHING without the beatles, without paul mccartney & john lennon.
@FCastillo000 No he couldn't be anyone in the band b/c of their egos. John admitted they carved up the empire for themselves and Paul would usually turn a cheek to help George unless he had written his 10 songs first so to speak. How else would I be right when in fact George released All Things Must Pass, a triple album of material that wasn't approved to be on any album of theirs in the later years. That's also why he likes to forget the band b/c he never got a chance to have an equal stance.
@FCastillo000 All I see in this is the post of a little fanboy bitch. Do you have a shrine of Lennon and a sex doll with McCartney's face printed on it. A little bitch such as you should go back to fapping over your 'idols' as you seem to think that everything in the beatles was the sole efforts of Lennon and McCartney. Fucking fag
@FCastillo000 look what succesful carier he had,he was great leader guitarist, then had band with,Petty,Orbison,Clapton ect,lot of great songs, you know shit of him,he was very succesful, the most of others beatles
@FCastillo000 Cartney had quantity, but George had quality, and he couldnt be replaced cuse there wasnt such great songwritter and lead guitar player, when you dont know nothing rather shut up,probably you dont know nothing
@halifax1985 George wasnt interest being on public like John ,Paul he just made good music when he was at Beatles, cuse he was nice, humble, warmly person any ego like John or Paul, but whe Beatles broken up,he had biggest carier then Paul, cuse his songs had soul and heart,Paul writting just quantity but not quality
@RaymondFRevalee I guess you don't play guitar, then. Yeah, maybe he was arrogant, but that's really just your opinion. As for the music, it's just a fact that he contributed some excellent guitar licks, as well as several of their best songs (Something and While My Guitar Gently Weeps, in particular). Listen to his first solo album as well (All Things Must Pass). It's clear that he was an excellent songwriter. He had a fantastic ear for chords. He seemed to know the exact right chord.
Bit about LSD - cheeky! lol but so honest. Bit about nobody bothering to kill him, so sad in perspective of the later attack. It's such a George thing, whole of this interview. Naive, charming... sarcastic :) sometimes when I listen to this guy, I see how much he changed over the years yet it's like his young soul is always shining through :):):):)
The second best thing that happened to Harrison was being in the Beatles. The thing was the break-up. In the grand cosmic sense, I believe they broke up so George could fully flower.
George was no junior member, his role was just often more subtle than the rest because he wasn't front and center all the time. But a big part of what made their music so spectacular was the way he coloured the songs with his playing.. think of the end of Dear Prudence, or Hello Goodbye.. where would those songs be without him?!
I have so much respect for George. He deserves so much more, and he has every right to want to feel bitter about being treated as an underdog. He really is a selfless, honest man and I will always love him :)
In this, and several other interviews I've seen...... George does SEEM to come off a bit bitter...... just a bit. Certainly not whining or bitching.... just a small amount of bitterness. I mean.. I still LOVE the guy and his music.... just saying I DO understand what the uploader is referring to here.
George was very honest always- he just states the facts in a way- John and Paul were busy working together but George never blames them- he just accepts it like everything else- he was never one to complain he always said he was happy just making music and being religious. He was the most caring Beatle- and you can see how he really cared about John's death, more than Paul even.George, being invisible watching the beginning of the Beatles breakup can give the most acurate honest opinion
@DeadBull17 someone id try to kill George actually. they broke into his house and stabbed him in the lung- which later meant he couldnt get his lung cancer cured and a reason George died
@il927 i dont think he hated the beatles, because if he did he probably wouldn't have stayed a part of it. I think he was just frustrated with all the madness that was involved with the beatles.
and the irony paperbuddy, somebody did try to murder george in 1999 when he broke into georges house. he stabbed george but the injuries were minor. the attacker later lamentetd at how disappointed he was that he hadnt killed george. in many ways i feel it hastened the death of george.
@elizajohn5 It actually did hasten George's death when the attacker broke in. he stabbed George in a lung before Olivia subdues the attacker, and later when George had lung cancer from smoing he couldnt be cured easily since 1 lung was bad from the stabbing.
IMO, George wasn't bitching in the slightest. That was his experience in The Beatles,it obviously wasn't all rainbows & butterflies,if he painted it like that he would've been lying. He was the youngest, &like most groups of siblings the youngest gets excluded.however, unfortunately in this case it hurt the dynmaic of the band in the end.George was very talented & it's a shame he didn't get to contribute more to the band.I'm a sucker for the underdog though, maybe that's why George is my favorite<3
I didn't take this as bitching, just an honest account from his personal perspective of his own experience as a Beatle and a musician in his own right. The phenomena of the Beatles took on a life of its own, independent of the group itself or the four individuals in the band.
it is strange that he says nobody would want to kill him but in '99 someone broke into his house and tried to kill him. thank god olivia was there we would have lost him even sooner. =(
yeah he's absolutely dead-on right and honest about all this. he's always the one who checks paul and john's bullshit stories and ego trips. otherwise all you'd have is the same stupid anecdotes from Paul and the insecurity defensiveness of John. George was the smartest one, i think. He had his hang-ups, but he *always* reminds interviewers that they were all just normal people with problems and it wasn't the fantasy that some, specifically Paul, make it out to be.
@rockphotoman Sounds like our video host doesn't like hearing about the egofest of Paul and John. George was a fantastic songwriter & musician both in and out of the Beatles, but it does sound like he was brushed to the side in those days, despite having ridiculously awesome songs that he penned for the fab 4, 'It's all too much, blue jay way, something, while my guitar gently weeps, I Me Mine, If I Needed Someone, I Need You, Taxman, here comes the sun, think for yourself, old brown shoe..etc
Please explain, does he not complain and bitch throughout the video. I think some of the greatest Beatle songs were written by George. But like lots of rich, lucky people that "make it" he complains and bitches. I like when he talks about the going to the US and says "you know what its like over there" talking about guns. Funny he got stabbed in his own house in England. If he had the right to have a handgun at home he might not have been stabbed.
@rockphotoman That's a logical fallacy. By the same token, I could say, and much more persuasively, that had the person who got into the house had a gun rather than a knife, George would have been dead that night.
@rockphotoman Without being asked, a person coming out saying negative this and that..., going on and on. That's bitching. But this is an interview. He's being asked questions and he answers them honestly..., you couldn't ask for more.
But I did know that Paul was afraid as you said after John(RIP) was killed. But thats true, we may never have seen Paul or Ringo make a public appearance.
@Marshallsg yes, its ture, somoene tried to kill George- and indirectly did lead to his death since George's lung got punctured and couldnt get his lung cnacer cred years later because of it
It was the line about her socks or something, unless I'm mistaken George for Ringo, one of them contributed to Elanor Rigby though I know that for sure.
something I find amazing about Harrison....this guy barely made it out of high school.....I am not certain if he even graduated....he articulates like a college professor
The most telling statement of George's in this interview was at 3:51...."he (john) was no angel",,,,,,"no he wasn't....but he was as well". The way he said that showed his true feelings for John Lennon no matter how bitter he was at this time over the way he was treated in his Beatles years.
It's really sad to see this when people are so used to seeing the Beatles as a whole, and then you talk to George personally, and he was truly the "underdog" of the group. I mean, from 2:15 to 2:25 it's really sad. He should know he's incredibly important. :D
George Harrison was one of the Beatles, and in my experience the most honest of the four in his interviews. All you need is love, and yet love needs honesty.
@romanwoman no, even the day George H and George M. met, Martin made strict rules and treated the Beatles like kids so George Harrison had the guts to tell Martin he thought his suit was ugly the day they met. Harrison was a brave 'kid' not obediednt like Paul.
I'm sure anyone would be bitter after years and years of always being "that one guy in the Beatles who's not John or Paul or Ringo". The sad thing is how unimportant he obviously feels. He's an amazing musician and an amazing person and without him the Beatles wouldn't have been the Beatles.
To say he was an 'average' guitarist shows a complete lack of understanding of what true musicianship is. Playing fast, flashy solos doesn't make you great. Restraint, timing and phrasing mean a lot more. Serving the song. That is what George always did. He always served the song.
Yeah,I've played guitar for 30 yrs.now and I've known for yrs. it's much easier to play like Eric Clapton than George Harrison.George's playing involved more varied techniques and scales.
I think that "elenor rigby" was 100pc Mccartny;George was just searching for an example to make his point and said that.Maybe he meant contributing to "lucy in the sky...".
An amazing musician -- an amazing man -- I always believed George's contribution to the Beatles was vastly underrated.... biographer Norman, seen in this clip, concluded, in his updated version of SHOUT that "George was not great, just an average guitar player who got incredibly lucky" - I think millions of people would disagree
I love George Harrison and his solo career after The Beatles. Average guitar player? Yes, maybe. Average songwriter? No. He is one of the best I've ever seen and heard.
I don't believe he was an average guitar player at all. Flashy does not necessarily mean great. George wasn't exactly flashy but he WAS great. He influenced and continues to influence so many.
he was very underestimated for his playing capability because there was only that one beautiful song on each album that he would write and sing himself and it was always one of they're biggest hits
God George We miss you. And we all love you. It breaks your heart when he says he thinks hes unimportant. I mean Here Comes the Sun and All Things must pass, helped me make it though Highschool.
first time george looked a little testy and stood his own ground, usually he was more like yes, whatever you say; i know my own measure. god, i admire this man. RIP george.
can anyone tell me what the police man says ay 2:48 when the interviewer asks him "What condition was he in when he was in ur car?", about john lennon?????
george are you kidding me you are one of the most important people ever to walk the earth!!!!! you always make me mad when you say things like that I bet thousands of crazy crazy kooks would love to kill you (if that makes you feel any better) lol george george george...george the whole world misses you the universe misses you everybody misses you we love you alot!
(a conversation in your mind can say alot to a dead person) that makes no sense but oh well Iget wht I am trying to say
aww, poor Georgy who was always in the shadows of Paul and John... but I've always thought it was just Paul who was getting most of the attention from all the videos I've seen... John would always just be in the background smiling with George and he would only make witty comments here and there rarely.
Yes, that biographer is very annoying. He seems to be getting such an ego high, loving the sound of his own voice IMO. I dont think he really knows what he's talking about, but whatever... Anyway, I dont think George is bitching about anything. In fact I think he's probably the most reasonable of all the Beatles.
I can see why he was frustrated with the Beatles. I don't know if I agree that Paul twists history or that Ringo is as stupid as people make him out to be.
@chelennonusa - George didn't HURT the Beatles.
Largely, he couldn't...the Beatles refused a lot of
his music because it wasn't very good. His first "hit"
turned out to be PLAGIARIZED. Only his fans seem
to think it didn't matter. George's "All Things Must
Pass" was ready for release before the others because
it is a collection of his songs that the Beatles had
REJECTED. In the post Beatle days, fans were hungry
for ANYTHING Beatles. Even if it was only George.

LOL MY GOD, WHAT SPIN! If this guy only HEARD
some of George's early contributions you'd understand
why George Martin kept a tight leash on him. In many
ways, the Beatles SAVED George from himself, his
music was THAT BAD! John Lennon made fun of
EVERYONE. Except for George's 2 or 3 good songs,
most of his songs suffer an awkward self consciousness.
His use of the Sitar is a novelty that soon wore off. Much
like his SLIDE GUITAR playing, he overused it until it
became a cliche!

PaperBuddy 2 years ago 5
and the irony paperbuddy, somebody did try to murder george in 1999 when he broke into georges house. he stabbed george but the injuries were minor. the attacker later lamentetd at how disappointed he was that he hadnt killed george. in many ways i feel it hastened the death of george.
elizajohn5 2 years ago
@elizajohn5 It actually did hasten George's death when the attacker broke in. he stabbed George in a lung before Olivia subdues the attacker, and later when George had lung cancer from smoing he couldnt be cured easily since 1 lung was bad from the stabbing.
4FabBEATLES 1 year ago
@4FabBEATLES ye, thats what i said it did hasten georges death. he died less than 2 years later.

I always thought that George was the most grounded and thoughtful of the Beatles.

George was always under rated. He was a geious .. no question about it. Go listen to his beatles songs. :)

i agree -- something & while my guitar gently weeps, especially. brilliant!
crayolasky 2 years ago 4
IMO, George wasn't bitching in the slightest. That was his experience in The Beatles,it obviously wasn't all rainbows & butterflies,if he painted it like that he would've been lying. He was the youngest, &like most groups of siblings the youngest gets excluded.however, unfortunately in this case it hurt the dynmaic of the band in the end.George was very talented & it's a shame he didn't get to contribute more to the band.I'm a sucker for the underdog though, maybe that's why George is my favorite<3
LoveShiaGDSN 2 years ago 7
I didn't take this as bitching, just an honest account from his personal perspective of his own experience as a Beatle and a musician in his own right. The phenomena of the Beatles took on a life of its own, independent of the group itself or the four individuals in the band.
yetifeets 2 years ago 4
it is strange that he says nobody would want to kill him but in '99 someone broke into his house and tried to kill him. thank god olivia was there we would have lost him even sooner. =(
TheStepher 2 years ago
yeah he's absolutely dead-on right and honest about all this. he's always the one who checks paul and john's bullshit stories and ego trips. otherwise all you'd have is the same stupid anecdotes from Paul and the insecurity defensiveness of John. George was the smartest one, i think. He had his hang-ups, but he *always* reminds interviewers that they were all just normal people with problems and it wasn't the fantasy that some, specifically Paul, make it out to be.
songcycle 2 years ago 6
he wasnt bitching at all...

then in your opinion he was explaining.
rockphotoman 2 years ago
@rockphotoman He was explaining that he was George Harrison, not just an ex-Beatle, because that seems to be what many people saw him as...
RogueSahara 1 year ago
@rockphotoman Sounds like our video host doesn't like hearing about the egofest of Paul and John. George was a fantastic songwriter & musician both in and out of the Beatles, but it does sound like he was brushed to the side in those days, despite having ridiculously awesome songs that he penned for the fab 4, 'It's all too much, blue jay way, something, while my guitar gently weeps, I Me Mine, If I Needed Someone, I Need You, Taxman, here comes the sun, think for yourself, old brown shoe..etc
beltanetrex 1 year ago
@rockphotoman well, explaining is a nicer way to put it. This is Harrison's explanation..

The person who uploaded this who said that George bitches about John or Paul is a complete idiot and a charlatan.
PrincessShittyBottom 2 years ago 13
Please explain, does he not complain and bitch throughout the video. I think some of the greatest Beatle songs were written by George. But like lots of rich, lucky people that "make it" he complains and bitches. I like when he talks about the going to the US and says "you know what its like over there" talking about guns. Funny he got stabbed in his own house in England. If he had the right to have a handgun at home he might not have been stabbed.

@rockphotoman Sinatra said Something was his fav Lennon/McCartney tune!
jazzermonk 1 year ago
@rockphotoman That's a logical fallacy. By the same token, I could say, and much more persuasively, that had the person who got into the house had a gun rather than a knife, George would have been dead that night.
JGuildersleeve 1 year ago 3
@rockphotoman Without being asked, a person coming out saying negative this and that..., going on and on. That's bitching. But this is an interview. He's being asked questions and he answers them honestly..., you couldn't ask for more.

@rockphotoman True, he might not have been stabbed but he probably would have been shot and killed like John

Whats crazy is that someone had tried to kill George a bit before he died, someone broke into his house and stabbed him =\

I know right? How could anyone want to kill John or George. George is one of the most kindhearted people I know of.

It was the line about her socks or something, unless I'm mistaken George for Ringo, one of them contributed to Elanor Rigby though I know that for sure.

something I find amazing about Harrison....this guy barely made it out of high school.....I am not certain if he even graduated....he articulates like a college professor
inkey2 2 years ago 3
The most telling statement of George's in this interview was at 3:51...."he (john) was no angel",,,,,,"no he wasn't....but he was as well". The way he said that showed his true feelings for John Lennon no matter how bitter he was at this time over the way he was treated in his Beatles years.
inkey2 2 years ago 8
It's really sad to see this when people are so used to seeing the Beatles as a whole, and then you talk to George personally, and he was truly the "underdog" of the group. I mean, from 2:15 to 2:25 it's really sad. He should know he's incredibly important. :D
kelmac72 2 years ago
for some reason, I found it so sad in this interview the way george said about john, "he was already dead after that."
LeKayFace 2 years ago
George Harrison was one of the Beatles, and in my experience the most honest of the four in his interviews. All you need is love, and yet love needs honesty.
theloosegoose333 2 years ago 3
Was George H. really looked down by George M.? I thought they always liked each other?!
romanwoman 3 years ago
no they did
batmanoberst 2 years ago
@romanwoman no, even the day George H and George M. met, Martin made strict rules and treated the Beatles like kids so George Harrison had the guts to tell Martin he thought his suit was ugly the day they met. Harrison was a brave 'kid' not obediednt like Paul.
4FabBEATLES 1 year ago
im sure george harrison had very legitimate reasons for feeling the way he did.

So sad that he was so bitter...the interviewer was kinda freaked by him as well.
nalm2025 3 years ago
I'm sure anyone would be bitter after years and years of always being "that one guy in the Beatles who's not John or Paul or Ringo". The sad thing is how unimportant he obviously feels. He's an amazing musician and an amazing person and without him the Beatles wouldn't have been the Beatles.
FlyingMango94 2 years ago 14
@nalm2025 I dont think he was bitter,I think the ay he talked he wasnt important shows what humble and down to earth he was

To say he was an 'average' guitarist shows a complete lack of understanding of what true musicianship is. Playing fast, flashy solos doesn't make you great. Restraint, timing and phrasing mean a lot more. Serving the song. That is what George always did. He always served the song.
proust2020 3 years ago 7
Yeah,I've played guitar for 30 yrs.now and I've known for yrs. it's much easier to play like Eric Clapton than George Harrison.George's playing involved more varied techniques and scales.
jimmmmybrady 3 years ago 5
I think that "elenor rigby" was 100pc Mccartny;George was just searching for an example to make his point and said that.Maybe he meant contributing to "lucy in the sky...".

Who is the interviewer?
HarveyDentLives 3 years ago
An amazing musician -- an amazing man -- I always believed George's contribution to the Beatles was vastly underrated.... biographer Norman, seen in this clip, concluded, in his updated version of SHOUT that "George was not great, just an average guitar player who got incredibly lucky" - I think millions of people would disagree
JohnCee754 3 years ago 12
I love George Harrison and his solo career after The Beatles. Average guitar player? Yes, maybe. Average songwriter? No. He is one of the best I've ever seen and heard.
FilipM1 3 years ago 4
I agree, I love his solo albums.
kvmusic 3 years ago
I don't believe he was an average guitar player at all. Flashy does not necessarily mean great. George wasn't exactly flashy but he WAS great. He influenced and continues to influence so many.

aww, poor Georgy who was always in the shadows of Paul and John... but I've always thought it was just Paul who was getting most of the attention from all the videos I've seen... John would always just be in the background smiling with George and he would only make witty comments here and there rarely.
shahoney 4 years ago 9
Yes, that biographer is very annoying. He seems to be getting such an ego high, loving the sound of his own voice IMO. I dont think he really knows what he's talking about, but whatever... Anyway, I dont think George is bitching about anything. In fact I think he's probably the most reasonable of all the Beatles.
